Thanks for the compliments. I sent the covers out today (Monday) by UPS. They say they will be at Brads on the 19th or 20th. Brad, I want to thank you again for all you have done. :worship: Sandy

Please confirm. I am going to follow your lead and eliminate the oil fill neck and attach a new, polished oil cap directly to the cam cover.
Seems like a no brainer but I am ordering a Cam type cap (As opposed to screw on type), correct?
Just want to be sure. Thanks,

I removed mine and used a screw type cap from UPR. you can see it on the pics on previous page.

Yes, it is cam type, just a quarter turn. The 'threads' on the actual cam cover are identical to the 'threads' on the filler neck. The neck is just a plastic extension. All you have to do, is twist it off the plastic filler neck and pop the stock cap (or suitable replacement) directly on the cam cover.

Actually, my oil cap is just an aluminum cover that is glued on to the stock plastic oil cap, so a guaranteed fit!

Here's mine:

I think this is the one Sandyman has: (please correct me if I'm wrong)

Hope this helps.

I like the GT one, nice! They even come with the cap itself and not just a cover, cool. Good price too. Oh yeah, definitley the cam type.

I like it better than mine, my cap cover just isn't polished/shiny enough, it looks dull next to the valve covers, though I've tried polishing it a few times. The satin finish on it is more of a brushed finish, and just doesn't shine up well.

Brad, that is the cover I have. John, I also have MGW Mustang oil cap. I ordered it by mistake along with some other stuff. It looks like chrome and didn't go with my other stuff. No reasonable offer refused.

Sandy:

That is tempting but I am going with the same cap you are currently using. Did you order Satin or Polished finish?

John,

Can't wait to see your valve covers when you get them done. Been watching this post for a while. With regards to the oil cap, I would go with the satin finish. The chrome looks great, but when it night time, the satin stands out more and when you go get your oil changed, you are less likely to have scratches on the cap from the guys at the oil places. IMO

I know I should look thru all 10 pages, but is there a detail description of instructions of how and what to do to remove and replace the valve covers.

Thanks in advance.

I have all satin UPR caps under my hood. You can still polish them up a bit, and they look pretty good.

Mav, good point about service guys, but nobody scratches my car up and spills oil all over the place but me.

Good question, I've gotten several PM's on this, so here's a cut and paste repost.

In case anyone was wondering about time and tools to swap them out. I used a little 1/4" socket wrench, an extension, a 7mm(ignition coils), 8mm(cover bolts), and 10mm(air box hold-down bolt) sockets, and a screw driver. I also laid some towels over the fender to protect it from scratching.

First of all, I loosened up all the cam cover bolts, about a dozen on each side. Then I loosened up the 4 bolts holding on the ignition to the cam covers. Had to pop off all the vacuum lines and a couple of electrical connections. Then move all the ignition and other wires out of the way. On the driver's side, I had to remove the intake. Some people removed the battery tray, but I found this unnecessary.

The cam covers came right off, slid forward, up, and out of there. The thick rubber gasket is pretty tough, and reusable. No gasket sealer used by Ford or needed.

I ended up taking the oil neck off of my right side cam cover. The stock oil cap snaps right into its place, same thread pattern, and I think it looks better, though harder to fill without it, but I have several funnels. If you want it off, just let me know, it pops right off, though it's a little difficult.

Took me about 3 hours to swap mine out, but I'm really slow, and take my time, and clean stuff as I go. I'm sure the more mechanically inclined with an electric screwdriver with a socket attatchment could possibly swap them out in 30 minutes. Even less if you have a buddy helping. It's pretty easy though, if you can take out thirty bolts and put them back in, you can do this. Just be careful not to cross thread the bolts putting them back in, and I recommend putting in the bolts on the ends (front/back) in first.

Hope this helps.

John, mine is satin. I think you will like it better than the extra one I have.

Brad did you paint your JLT tube the same color as your car?

I ordered it like that. I think the paint was 30 bucks extra. Jay can match up all the stock colors. That's actually an old shot, here's one showing the oil cap:
