Hi Brad,

You have me #1 on the Flight Line, which is fantastic! Please change my color choice from "Super Mirror Black" to "Reflective Chrome", then let me know when I should be prepared to do the swap. My stang is black and I think the reflective chrome will work better to brighten up the engine compartment.

Thanks so much for all you help.

Steve

Hey guys...I'm back now. I've been gone for the past week...my stepdad passed away this past Saturday. He had been diagnosed with leukemia three weeks ago and they gave him two weeks....he almost made it the full two weeks before it got the better of him. I'm just thankful that we got to spend that last bit of time with him. Just doesn't seem fair that the good ones have to go first!

Anyway...I'm back home and back to work. Numbers 21 and 24 on the list are now coated and will be shipped out tomorrow. And like Hatch was saying, now with the second set in the mix this should move along nicely!!

Thanks,
Kevin

question about cam covers

OK I'm taking my cam covers to get powder coated in the morning. My question is, how do you get the oil filler spout off? Also the rubber/plastic gromets that the elect. connecter goes thru at the front of each cover. I can't seem to get them off and I dont want to break anything. Can I leave the studs for the wires and the breather tube on or do they come off too? Thanks for your help!

The oil filler spout will just twist off like the oil cap, but it's just REALLY tight. Expect a loud POP when you get it off. Just bend out the tab that's locking it into place and twist it out just like taking off your oil cap. As a matter of fact, you don't even need the filler spout, the stock oil cap will fit right into the cam cover, it's the same thread pattern. And I like the look without it a lot better.

The rubber/plastic gromets will pop straight out, but it takes a lot of pressure from the inside pushing out. It takes enough pressure that you may leave a permanent indention in them if you use a sharp object like a screwdriver, but it will be hardly noticeable, just make sure you don't tear or punch a hole in them. It may help to get them a little warm to make them more plyable before popping them out.

The studs for the wire looms we just leave on and powder coat over. Only plastic nuts pop over these, so a little powder coat on the threads won't matter, plus I think having them coated looks pretty good.

The breather tubes can be taped up or powder coated over, doesn't matter, the rubber and plastic hoses will fit over them either way. I definitely would NOT take them off, I don't think they will come off without a cutting torch.

If you don't mind me asking, what color are you getting and what is your Powder Coater charging?

Typo?, you would take them off?

Those cam sensor seals are like 3-4 bucks from the dealer of you ruin one, both sides are the same #. I pryed up on each end a little at a time.

And I busted my spout when I took it out, ooops, wasnt planning on reusing it anyway, like hatch said, looks better without it.

Brad thanks for the help! I'm getting them done in metallic blue. I was going to get the chrome to match the BBK plenum cover but the chrome they have looks like silver or gray not chrome. I paid an extra 25.00 to get the chrome powdercoat when I got my C&L CAI . That was a waste of money .It doesnt look anything like the plenum cover. I'll probably end up getting it done in blue also. Im paying $50.00 for each cam cover. I'll let you know how they turn out. Again ,thanks for the help! Dave

There was a delay in shipping, the powder gun broke, so they didn't go out on time, sorry everyone for the delay.

Good news, we have a Third set of stock covers to add to the rotation. So hopefully things will finally start speeding up.

I am still awaiting for them to arrive. FedEx is not my friend these days. They are due any day. Once in, I will install them and post a pic or two.

I took my studs out and one of the breather tubes (the smaller one). The big one is riveted to the underside so it was masked off. I think they look cheap when everything is left on and powdercoated over. I also smoothed out all of the casting imperfections prior to coating.
