I've got a local guy who is willing to powder coat my cam covers in "Mirror Chrome" for $65 bucks for both.

It seems powder coating is more durable than paint, so I'm thinking they may last longer.

What do ya'll think about that and the price?

Sounds like a deal/steal to me!! Where are you located? I'd like a piece of that action.

Thanks, I'm in Pensacola, and so is the guy. He said he can turn them around in one day if we time it right on his day off, and I get them there early in the morning.

Took off the cam covers tonight. Getting them powder coated "Reflective Chrome" for $65 for the pair. I'll post some pics and opinions when it's done, probably Monday night.

He said he could do them in one day, but I'm going out of town for several days, which is why it'll be Sunday night before I pic them up, and Monday before I put them on.

Flew in late last night, too late to pick them up. I'll get some pics up later tonight after work.

The guy said they turned out great though, so looking forward to it. To be honest, the $65 quote was without seeing them, and I think the cam covers are bigger than he expected. I remember my Dakota's 5.2 covers where about half as wide. So the next set might have to be a little more. But stilll, I was expecting to pay over $100 to get this done, so anything less than and hundred would still be a gooe deal. I couldn't even find a set of aftermarket cam covers, so this was my only option for making them better, besides painting or trying to polish by hand.

I'll post up some pics once I get them back from him, and let you all know what I think about the quality and how they turned out.

Picked them up today. I am pretty pleased with the results. They didn't come out quite like "Reflective Chrome", more of a "Satin Aluminum". But still, much better than before and worth it IMO.

Here are the pics:

Brad, that looks good, is the gold real glossy or just a deep metalic? It's hard to tell by the picture. It will be a few weeks before I'll have it done,But I deffinantly want to do it. Just desiding on which one I will do, the chrome like yours or the gold. Brad, I think your turned out really good, can't wait to see them on the motor. Again I appreciate everything, James

Those look very nice, indeed. You may have found something that will go over big. What are his prices going to be?

He's going to keep the same price, $65 to sandblast, do a little prep, and powder coat them. Even after the sandblast, still had some factory imperfections in the covers, but overall, they are still 99 times better than they were stock. I'm very pleased with the results.

If we get enough people together to do it, I could buy a set of new cam covers (around $400 according to my local stealership), and have them as the first core, so your car's down time would only be a few hours to swap out the covers, then send in your stockers to get powerder coated for the next guy. Since everybody has cam covers less than a year old, they should all be in good shape.

But we'd probably need to get atleast 10 people for this, so the core fee would be about 40 bucks apiece. I figure it'll take a week to do each set, counting shipping, process, and delays (ie someone not shipping back their ugly stockers the next day), it would take me about 3 months for me to make my money back from the initial investment.

So figure:

$65 powder coat
$34 core fee (non refundable)
shipping and insurance, less than 20 bucks?

So for $99 bucks plus shipping, you could get your cam covers powder coated. Sure, I'll be making some money off of each set, but it's going to take 3 months just to get my inital investment back from buying the first set. And considering if someone decides not to send in their cam covers back, or someone sends in a bent/damaged set, and many trips to the post office and over to the powdercoater's place, it's probably going to be more of a pain than anything else.

But if enough people want to do this, we could make it happen.

Also, he has many colors available. I don't think he can do and exact match for all stock colors, like Mineral Grey or Redfire, but he could do Grey and Maroon.
He can also do wrinkle coat, anodized, candy, mirror, and metallic colors. Like I said, no guaranteed exact match.

Here's an example of some of his work:

James, that's the gold he did last week.
