More like wishing and hoping for a n/a 5.4.
I understand the Terminator engine is no longer available that means it would be a 4.6 with Shelby GT like upgrades or a 4.6 with no forged internals with a S/C from the aftermarket. Either way it would be a disappointment if the upgraded engine package is not directly from Ford.
One of the factors for the SEs' successes and popularity has been the original and affordable out of the box engine. If that is not part of it then the Bullitt would become another tuner's mut much like Roush and Saleen top end models which are great for Mustang magazine articles but are not in high demand.
Another factor would be the impact of tuner upgrades on the price which can easily climb to 140 - 150% of the GT's MSRP. That could make lots of people wait for a GT500 and a DHG paint job instead.

That will make it a nose-heavy pig like the GT500 - meaning no improvement in handling dynamics.

It should be if racing is in your future. If you are going to be an average driver who likes to have some fun every once in a while and and can handle a performance car then it should not be.
Both my cars are heavy. I don't drive like a maniac, neither do I as if I had an Oldsmobile. Every single time I drive I enjoy the experience and the car's weight is a non-factor.
It's like have sex. The pretty and slim doesn't instantly guarantee the best performance or pleasure. What does it guarantee is you'll be doing a lot of the house work.
It feels great to have experience, doesn't it?

Great analogyHow's this to throw fuel on the speculation fire.... the Hurricane/Boss motor is probably going to make its debut in 2008, who's to say a few motors might not make their way into AAI?
No Shelby snout - GT W/o fogs
Let the Shelby snout stay on the Shelby's. The Bullitt needs its own identity. The original bullitt car was played bt a GT Mustang and a plain jane stang. A subtle sinister look is needed, like the GT grille without fogs but maybe a bit of chrome trim. The bumper should be a little like the base Mustangs, but with fogs in the bumper and a slightly deeper opening.

The GT500's front bumper without the fog lamps or front spoiler would be great. I would be thrilled if the front fascia had the large opening as well with the running pony emblem on the middle of it. I would of course paint it black as I did before.
The PJ front bumper with chrome grill trim and grill fog light delete will look the most similar to the original Bullitt.
I'd love to see chrome driver and passenger window surrounds. All Ford will need to do is replace the textured black plastic trim with a smooth chromed plastic trim piece.

I do like the GT500 nose over the GT, the forms and lines are just that much more coherent, cohesive and better integrated overall. But it might be stealing too much of the GT500s personna.
As for bright window surrounds, I think a brushed SS effect would be a bit more subtle and classy than a bling bling full on chrome.
Or maybe some other soft effect metallic finish than the all-to-common and easy, dunk-everything-in-the-chrome-tank recourse?

With the Boss engine coming I doubt that Ford is going to waste any $$ on an aluminum block for the 5.4. It would have to be used on a lot of vehicles (>50,000 engines / year for at least 5 years) to justify the engineering and tooling costs.
If they did an N/A 5.4 iron block with 3V heads, it would weigh at least 150 lb less than the GT-500 engine (no S/C, no intercooler, no heavy 4V heads).

Wasn't thinking of an aluminum 5.4L (too much $$ for limited applications, I agree). I was thinking of a 4V DOHC version of the aluminum 4.6L, as discussed on the last half of this page.
If you look back to the beginning of this thread, I brought up that Stang05KC posted a while back that a 4.6L / 4V / DOHC engine had shown up in his parts catalog for MY 2008.
That sounds to me like the Bullitt engine.
Yeah, could very well be. Much as I'd like to see the 5.4L, it is an iron block, and that will compromise weight distribution and, ultimately, handling dynamics. It would be great if the Bullitt had strong acceleration AND dynamic handling, IMHO. Within two or three tenths the 0-60 acceleration of the Shelby, but with better handling, would be a good goal!

To me. Just another 4V 4.6 will be nothing special. Now a 5.4 3V or 4v would be. It really doesn't matter that it has a Iron block. It would be truer to form to have the big torque motor in it. The car in Bullitt was a bigblock 390. Not a little lightweight high revving motor. And if you can drive you won't have to worry about the weight. I used to eat Corvettes for breakfast in my 69' 390 Cougar in the turns. Use guys sound like the same type dieing for IRS when the solid axle works great. It seems to be winning a lot of races against cars with IRS. Give us a motor that doesn't need 4.10 gears or better just to perform. To me the 5.4 is the deal. And it would be about time they put it in the Mustang. We were all crying for a 351 back when we had a 302. Instead they gave us a smaller 281. Which was slower not faster than the 5.0 For once I'd like to see a decent sized motor under the hood. And remember guys. The guys from the other side of town are going to be packing some serious power, 6.2L or better motors. Time for Ford to step up to the plate and protect there territory.
