Of course, now what's it gonna be like?
A vacuous trim and tape job like the GT/CS just to get it out the door quick and on the cheap?
Or something with some real meat and content like the Shelby GT that's more befitting of the Bullitt nomenclature?
My ideal: stripped down styling, in Highland green of course, with blacked out Bullitt wheels (this ought to be the ONLY Stang to use these waaaaay overused wheels IMO). Motor: 3V 5.4, in character with the big block 390 of the original. In lieu of that, the Shelby GT motor. Chassis: upgraded brakes, suspension tuning somewhere between a stock GT and the Shelby GT.

Ford did not reach this decision over night. All the parties involved were in favor for it and there have been hints along the way.
It make sense from a public relations stand point. I just hope Ford doesn't short change it this time.

Take a look at the 07 GT/CS with reference points to the original 68 GT/CS. Now do the with a 07 reference to a 67 Bullitt. I'll wager it will be no more, nor less than what that classic looked like. I wonder how it will price out compare to the Shelby GT; and will it have the SGT/GT-H FRPP goodies. Just think how scarce they would be if they only came with a 5sp manual. Like that would happen in today's world!
Here is the clay model I was talking about.....I was inspired by the search Function...

Anyway, hope this thing gets a significant horsepower boost, AND a reworked front grille more reminiscent of the original GT-390, as opposed to just a SN-197 V6 grille.
I m holding out for a boss, do you think they would take it out of the line up now that the Bullit is confirmed?
OK Ford, DO NOT MESS THIS ONE UP! That especially goes for those (censored) dealers too, what with the hype this will most assuredly generate along with more visions of ADM's dancing in salespeople's heads - no thanks to the GT500. I figured on walking away from the S197 until this tidbit came out. Time to start saving the pennies because this one sounds like one definitely worth waiting and spending (a little) extra for. A few things I'd like to see or not see:
- To help reduce costs, mix and match components such as GT500 front clip and GT/CS rear bumper cover, they look good enough so there is no need for an all-new fascia. Save it for the next major revision.
- No hood or side scoops, functional or otherwise (if Ford can make a hood with air extracting vents that don't look like the GT500's, fine), no spoiler either. If a subtle lip/ducktail spoiler is in the works, that would be alright. Plus, no GT or pony badging - the car in the movie didn't have them, even if it was for legal reasons though it would be nice to use the rear "Bullitt" badge from the previous version - keep things low-key, use chrome sparingly.
- DHG only, for sure. Make the interior similar to the New Edge version as far as the seat upholstery goes along with a mix of GT500, such as a shift light and gauge cluster without the "SVT" or titanium color(?)
- GT500 brake system w/red calipers, but I doubt the 18" Bullitt-style wheels have enough clearance...
- Whatever engine will be used, make sure it is not like the difference between the GT and Bullitt from before, hopefully it will be somewhat more "substantial".
- Exhaust components from Shelby GT/GT H are okay.
- Price. Keep it under the Shelby GT's price. Hey, no "Shelby" badging or dash plaque on this one, right? Build enough to satisfy enthusiasts and discourage price gouging/speculating/and "limited-edition mentality". Produce as many as can be (special) ordered for that model year in addition to the number of units that will be allocated to dealers. Probably asking too much, but I want this to be done right.

Didn't Stang05KC's parts catalog show a 4.6 DOHC 4V engine for 2008 MY?
That's probably the Bullitt engine. Jan 2008 is not that far away, the engineering has to be completed within the next 6 months.

Well this is bad news. All planned future mods for the GTA are now cancelled until further notice. But....if it's just another stripes and stick-on package like the GT/CS, I'll pass despite my love for DHG, the previous Bullitt and the original.
BTW, looks like I've won a couple bets with some dealer friends around here. Everyone told me that Ford wouldn't be producing another Bullitt but I've insisted since day one that they would and that it would be 2008....the 40th anniversary of the movie, a natural !!
Looking forward to hearing about the specs in the coming months........
