Bullitt coming in '08!!
Shelby has the Shelby GT...not Ford.
Ford needs their own niche Mustang to combat all the forthcoming challengers (no pun intended) in 2008, most of which will be offering 350 - 425 horsepower.
2010 is too late to wait for a Stang in the 375 to 400 horse neighborhood, IMHO.
This Bullitt better be that car.

The Bullitt. If FORD badged the car, painted it green and had 350 -375 stock HP I would live with that.
If the Challanger had come out before the Mustang I probably would not want a big car, although I do love that car. I prefer the Mustang for many reasons.
I just hope they don't make it to expensive, 300 horsepower is plenty for me, honestly what i really want is that dark highland green color, black bullitt wheels, '68 style hood, and maybe a few other improvements like a louder exhaust and a bit of performance, i'm not going to spend all this money on a car and then go risk wrecking it by racing the local rice club... But if they start slapping a supercharger in there or other crazy modifications that make it to expensive i won't be able to afford it.
Ford has already done the R&D on the last SVT Cobra, Mach1 and now the Shelby GT500. Making an SE Mustang shouldn't be a problem.
I really want something special, and I do not want to spend $50k - $60k (depending on the Dealership) for a Shelby GT500. I want a 350-400 h.p. Mustang, with slightly better handling, and a few tweaks here and there. AND I want it under $35k. If GM can build and sell a 400 h.p. GTO for under $35k, then Ford can build a 400 h.p. Mustang under $35k as well.

As the GT-500 (and looks like the Shelby GT) illustrated, Ford may able build and recommend that they retail for a certain price (e.g. $35K MSRP), but that doesn't mean the dealerships will sell them to you at that price.
The S197 is just too popular.
It has ton of great cosmetic upgrades, tons of suspension upgrades, Cobra brakes, factory subframe connectors..not to mention the only mustang ever to have a clearcoated engine bay.
gotta love the 01s
a question though. ive heard some people say the intake was good for 5hp, and ive heard other palces, with other numbers, up to 15. anyone know the "real" not advertised nuimbers?

The Bullitt was defiantely done right they should limited it to 1 color though but I guess that just makes the Blue and Black Bullitt's even more rare.
Arin - I don't think Ford even knows how much the intake helped I've seen the same range out of Ford Press Releases and Magazines. I think it just helps once you start modding more than anything. Throttle Body and Intake don't need replacing when you start supercharging, just one less thing to upgrade.
According to the mach1registry.org .. they claim Ford later acknowleged the Bullitt engine to produce 275hp.. I have never seen anything coming from ford sayign that but i guess they have. But like Bill said where the bullitt intake really shines is in modding. Not only doesn't it flow better but it won't crack in half like the 99-03 plastic intakes. later ones had aluminum crossovers. also the bullitt intake can be ported to make even better flowing.
Bone stock dyno #'s on '01
Here is the dyno that I got done on 745 at the FFW in Norwalk a few years ago. The car was bone stock, including the factory air filter and had right at 10,000 miles. If you go by the 15% lost in the drivetrain then it right up there in the 270-275hp range. I was talking with Brian Young (did the engine calibrations on the Bullitt and the Mach's) about the HP numbers and he asked me if we would rather have a car that was listed under the actual HP or over. I said under, for obvious reasons, and he just grinned and said "We thought you would." And after the '99 Cobra's Ford would rather as well.

What does everybody think about the Mustang news? I'm glad that Ford decided to use the upgraded 325 horsepower 4.6 liter engine for the 2008 GT. And I'm super happy that they're using a brand new 5.0 liter 380 horsepower V8 for the upcoming Bullitt. I was getting scared when they announced the false news last month about the 4.6 liter being the Bullitt engine. I'm really happy they're using a new 5.0 for the new Bullitt, I just hope they can work out that deal with Warner Brothers so they can get the Bullitt name.
Came across this on another site. Don't know if it's true or rumor.

Nothing about a 5.0L engine.

Though it IS interesting that the Bullitt that was allegedly to debut at SEMA has been postponed - perhaps indicating that it WILL be more than a "paint and badge job."
