Depending on when those come out I may just put an order in for the shifter. I want it with the new shift ****. My money is burning a hole in my pocket and Im waiting for either these bushings and **** to be done to order or waiting for some rotors to come back instock. OR a hood to be in production...

Who will win the race?

Does anyone out there that has an MGW also have a one-piece driveshaft? If so, what sort of clearance do you have around the shifter? I was about to buy one but realized clearance might be a problem.

I know "ring" gasket is not the proper term, but for lack of a better term, what I was referring to is a small rubber ring (there are two) that sit on the end of the transmission connecting arm that connects to the above picture Taco Bill provided (bottom of the shifter). There is a gasket then one small rubber ring then a thicker ring and a second small rubber ring. I think mine bound up on a hot summer day. I just need to know if it really needs to be replaced, otherwise I'll let it go.
Eventually I will open it back up for one last adjustment and locktite it up forever......lol.

umm... i do not want to scare you but if the tranny linkage arm end that is connected to your MGW shifter has orings and gaskets on it then the factory put it on backwards or there has been a change in the design. the factory arm should only have orings on the end that actually connects to the tranny NOT to the shifter end.

not sure if we are talking about the same thing. is this something on the shifter or the car you are referring to??

I've got a Dennys DS and no clearance issues at all. Then again, it's only a 3" driveshaft, which is why I went with steel over a 4" aluminum.

OK now I'm nervous Did I put it in upside down? Or am I remembering it backwards?
I really like the way it shifts now....maybe I should put a patent on the reverse linkage....lol

Seriously, are these rings something I should worry about or not?

Frank.... I think the problem is... no one else has seen anything like you are discribing on the trans arm... at least not where it attaches to the MGW shifter. I know I didn't see any rubber O-rings or the likes..

You need to take pics... one is worth a 1,000 words.

Hey George , I thinking about installing the stiffer springs. Is that something you can do from the inside without removing the whole shifter from the car ?

i just had my MGW installed. I am pretty sure i have the progressive springs with the factory bushings. my problem is it is very notchy. the throw is shorter but when power shifting or regular shifting it wont slam into gear. you can feel it slide into neutral then into the gear i am trying to go into. the hesitation of going into neutral then into gear defeats the purpose of the shorter thow. It is quieter than stock and a hell of alot more solid feeling but the hesitiation is killing me. did the installer do something wrong can this be adjusted. I know i must be missing something or will it just loosen up after a little while.

How many turns out did you adjust the throw... the closer to 12 turns the shorter and notchier the shifter becomes. If you went from stock to the MGW, the precision build and the more positive movement will make it feel notchy. Also, how high did you raise the handle, if it is short it will make it feel stiff and exaggerate the notchy feel.

I would give it a few days to work in... it will probably smooth out some. Then you may need to adjust the throw and handle height.

thx bobby i have it set to the lowest height and 8 turns out. i would like the throw shorter not longer though. i will give it some more time and then try turning it out 1 turn at a time.

your problem is going to get worse by turning it out more turns. the problem is nbot the shifter . it is your transmission. not a defect just the design and characterisitcs of the 3650 ( the t5 in the v6 is TWICE as bad!!!!!)

the reason Ford made the throw as long as it is stock is to hide some of the notchy feel and that neutral gate "BUMP" you are referring to. when you shorten the throw you will exaggerate the notchy bump in neutral. that is why the shortest throw is not always the smoothest or the fastest throw. which is the reason i made the shifter adjustable in throw. some do not mind that notchy feel but some hate it. you will NOT get a short throw AND a silky smooth shift. it is not possible unless you make a hydraulic shifter mechanism that basically removes the feel from the tranny altogether.

i think you should try turning the block IN a few turns and see what it feels like. i think you will be surpirsed at the outcome.

i understand what you mean and i realize that i need to give up throw for the smoothness. i ment to say turn it in. but in an ideal world i would like the throw shorter.

George,
I'm surprised, and a little disappointed you haven't gotten the new bushings out to us yet. What's the problem? I still love my shifter, I just want it to be the best it can be.
