MGW Shifter Feedback Thread!
Finally got a free weekend to put it in.
I've driven it for about 1/2 hour. First impression is Wow. I'm using the 7-8 turns out and the shifter at the lowest position, with the progressive springs installed. It is still pretty tight right now so I'm sure it will loosen some over the coming weeks.
The good: Anyone who complained that this is too loud definitely didn't take the time to install all the dynamat and sound deadening properly. I really like that this thing is near silent. The throws are very solid and short (as they should be). But everone else has already written that, so I won't expound upon that.
The (kinda) bad: I promptly took the car out and missed 3rd (during speed shifting)3 times in a row.
I was so ****ed. I have to relearn how to shift. This shifter forces you NOT to look for 3rd. Just push straight forward from second. I imagine this will take a little time and as it loosens up I'll get used to it. This does not effect normal driving at all, so don't take this as a derogatory comment. I'm shifting as fast as I can at 6000rpms and ending up pinning between 3rd and 5th. I just need to relearn the pattern because this shifter's tolerances are so tight that any lateral movement during the shift may put you too far over to hit the gear properly.
Please note this never happened to me in normal driving, or when I let off the gas when shifting at high RPMs. So if you don't beat on your car much and are looking for a great shifter this is hands down the one. I'll write more in a week or two once I get used to it and it loosens up a little.
I don't think I need to tell anyone that I think this is a great product. We all know from the previous write-ups. I just wanted to give my preliminary, honest impressions.

Have had my shifter in for about ten day now... it just keeps getting better and better... it is loosning up a bit more with use... I don't have any noise or vibration problems so far. Can't get over the exceptionally tight and positive feel when changing gears... it's like there's a different tranny in the car. It's what I would imagine a $100,000 plus sports car would shift like.
George..., I hope you are going to have the white MGW logo 5-speed ball done soon and that it is going to be 2" in diameter... the 2 1/4" ball is really big and the 1 3/4" Classic ball that I installed on the handle is a little small, but much better than the 2 1/4" ball, IMO.
Love this shifter

George,
Will the shank I have for the stock **** also work with the Roush Billet ****? I ask because of a piece that is not shown in the attached photo. It has to be screwed on before the **** itself. I could try it but don't want to mess up the threads.

I have the Roush billet shift **** on the standard MGW shifter lever arm and it fits fine. It is, obviously, a taller shifter **** than stock - so take that into account when adjusting the height of the shift lever.
Another question about the MGW shifter install...
In the MGW supplied instructions, when installing the support arm to the shifter with the clamp & two bolts with lock washers it states: " YOU WANT TO GET VERY TIGHT ON THESE BOLTS TO MAKE SURE THE FRONT SUPPORT ROD IS FIRMLY ATTACHED TO THE SHIFTER BODY."
My question is... should the clamp block be tightened until it contacts the shifter body??
During my install, I tightened the bolts evenly as per the instructions, but the torque pressure was getting pretty heavy prior to the clamp contacting the shifter. Therefore, I left about a 1/16" gap between the clamp and the shifter. I had observed that the two lock washer had been completely compressed for some time, yet I continued to torque the bolts. When the pressure got so heavy, I was concerned that I might pull the threads out of the shifter before the clamp block contacted the shifter.
Is my installation sufficient or do I need to return and tighten the clamp until it contacts the shifter.
George.. it might be benefical to amend your written instructions on this part of the install to be more specific as to what "VERY TIGHT" means on these two bolts. The lock washers are completely compressed long before the block will contact the shifter, which indicates they are locking as much as they are going to lock and should prevent the bolts from backing off.

guys who are buying the hurst blal may want to hold off if you want the RIGHT **** for your shifter. i am working on making some white ball with the shift pattern on them and MGW logos on the sides to go with our 3/8-16 threaded shafts. classic looks and the right logo to go with your shifter

give me about 4 weeks.

Thanks George, you're the best!
Just got my MGW installed over the weekend. All I can say is WOW!
This is a quality piece of machinery, almost too good to be true. I have no complaints about it at all.
Mine came with the new bushings and all the other improvements that he has put into it. It was worth the wait - thank you to all who put it in first to make a first rate product ever better.
Thanks MGW!

Oh, there is one thing that I would like to let others know...
If you have the MGW brake handle cover installed, it is a good idea to remove it. I had to remove mine when I was doing the install as it would not fit through the console. And to make it even harder on myself, I also have the Redline Leather e-brake boot installed, so the slot is even tighter.
Still, no complaints - A+ product.

sorry for not getting back to you guys sooner about the updates.
1. the bushings are currently still in the molding process .expect a few weeks
the stock bushings work fine and should hold up . i am having the new bushings made up and also putting a few design tweaks similar to the stock bushings. basically they will have vains in them to help keep a tight fit but alow room for thermal expansion and reduce friction from too much contact patch with the center shaft. i know it is a bit of a wait but it takes a while to make the molds for these type parts.
2. shift ***** are almost done but again these are a molded item that we do not make in house so i have little control over time to release. i am hoping for end of this month first of june.
also i am working on a new shift **** similar to the convept shift **** from the show car years back. i am hoping to have this done soon as it is a part I am making
