Shifter/Springs

I was told that any shifter with an invoice date of 4/10 or later have the progressive springs already loaded. Now get busy and install it- you're going to love it! Yes, I also thought these kits included bushings-mine did. My invoice date was 4/11. If not, you can re-use your old bushings-won't hurt a thing. If you want the new ones, I'm sure MGW will rush you a set. Are you sure they're not there?

My invoice date is 4-17.

Hmmmm, the bushings are not there... no worries though, I guess I can reuse the old ones.

I am setting aside time this weekend to install! I can't wait!

The Taco Bill writeup should make this install a breeze.

How did it go for you?

The MGW bushings are black in color. Are they already installed in the shift block?

Here's a pic on them..

I think I read somewhere in this thread , that shifters sent after a certain date would have the progressive springs installed. Mine came with the progressive springs in an extra bag , so I had to swap. Maybe they're only sending the progressive springs now ?

your shifter should already have the bushings installed into the linkage. look at the bottom of your shifter. they should be black on each end of the linkage block. i am 99.909999999999 percent sure i put them in all the shifters as i assemble EVERY shifter that leaves this shop.

if not call me asap and we can get them out to you.

and to clarify ALL shifters now have the progressive springs AND the bushings installed already.

Shifter **** Fit Issue

Does anyone else have this problem? I bought the shifter with an invoice date of 4/10 and received the labeled 3/8 16 thread shaft as I asked. However, when I screw on my Hurst shift ball, which is also labeled as 3/8 16 thread, it only goes down about 4 turns and stops. That leaves about 6 or 7 exposed threads (=1/2").
Is this normal or should I try and force it down the rest of the way? Any suggestions?

thats what happen to me, but I continued to screw it down and it was a little rough for one turn and then smoothed out. It didnt mess the threads up at all. I think george said that sometimes this happens due to his threading on the shaft being so precise, that some shifter ***** maybe off by a hair....

George should chime in shortly..........

Mine had some resistance as well. With the lock nut in place, there aren't any exposed threads.

I ordered the 3/8-16 handle and the threads have a dab of sealant (yellowish in color) about four threads from the top. My new Hurst ball only screws on freely until it contacts the thread sealant... it will require some additional effort to screw the ball or jam nut past that spot.

the screws we use have a special nylon locking patch. it does 2 things...

1. helps to keep the **** secured as an added vibration locking device.

2. cuts down on any chatter from loosely fit threads on mating parts.

some of them have a bit too much of the patch and can be a REAL pain to thread on. best thing is to spray with a little wd40 or use a standard hex nut and run it down the screw once or twice to take some of the patch off.

your **** should seat all the way then.

George, just want to tell you that I'm really loving this shifter. It's so much better than the triax. I have no complaints and I can finally get a decent speed shift without any worries. Thank you!

MGW Shifter

I, too am loving this shifter more each day. I have decided I like the throw adjustment set at 6 turns ouet. I like the shaft in the higher position, with the bottom of the shaft flush with the bottom of the black clamp, this increases the mechanical advantage, but after some period of time I might lower it an inch or so.
I don't think I could miss a 2-3 shift if I tried. Talk about a shifter being dead on.
The two guys that mentioned the shifter transfered transmission noise into the cabin- they should step away from the crack pipe. This shifter transfers NO NVH-period!

yea I agree, NO NOISE , much quieter than the stock shifter. I think they are hearing some of the normal transmission noise when you don't make a smooth engagement...

George, you are correct once again. Everything else is fantastic with this and I could not be happier. Thanks for your support.
