I don't normally post in vendor praise threads because, well, I expect to get what I pay for and decent service. Over the past several years between my 05 and my 66 Mustangs (really more the 66) I have spent $40+k on parts from internet vendors and I can honestly say I have never recieved better customer service and never received a higher quality part (my Richmond 6 speed was probably the closest, but I had to redo a few minor issues before installing).

Even before I purchased the shifter I noticed that George/MGW seemed to be distinctly different with the interaction with the customers. I have purchased other MGW items for my 05 (power plug, AC *****, coat hangers, door pins) and these were all quality pieces, but the shifter is just at another level.

When you receive your shifter you instantly know you are dealing with a company that is dedicated to QUALITY and CUSTOMER SATISFACTION! The parts are well packed, well labeled, clean, and pre-lubed where necessary. The instructions are detailed and you even get a CD. When inspecting the parts the quality and finish of the pieces is second to none. To top it off, I, like the others, received an upgrade kit that was of equal quality and just as nicely packed and labled. Excellent customer service. I know the other shifter manufacturers would NEVER do that.

Once you begin the install you realize that this is going to be a great addition to your car. Not only the shift mechanism itself, but all of the other pieces to address cabin quality; sound barriers, heat shield, water shield, etc.

Once installed you see how much thought went into the product; Adjustability of throw, adjustability of shifter handle/****. When you start driving with the MGW shifter you instantly feel the solid quality of the entire mechanism. No longer do I feel like I am coaxing my car into gear with a wet noodle (and aftter removing the stock shifter I think that is what Ford made them out of).

I have been driving with it for about 2 weeks now and am entirely pleased with my decision. I can drive with confidence knowing that the manufacturer of the product readily stands behind it and is dedicated to quality and customer satisfaction.

I've been driving with my MGW shifter for about a month now and I am very impressed with it. Like 2MFF states the quality of the product is absolutely top notch as is George's customer service.
My only complaint....
Every other manual trans car I drive now has a shifter that feels inferior too me now.

I'm starting to get a little sick of guys on the other forums that put the Steeda and Pro50 shifters on top of the heap when they haven't even tried the MGW set up. I had the Steeda for almost 2 years and there is absolutely no comparison. This MGW shifter has far exceeded my expectations by leaps and bounds. When you try to explain to these guys just how wrong they are you end up in an argument. Thankfully there are enough new MGW users out there to jump in and back up my claims.

If anyone is on the fence about which shifter to buy, get over it and get the MGW. I can actually keep the pedal to the metal while doing a 6300 rpm 2-3 shift for once in this car. Going for 3rd gear at high R's with the Steeda was frustrating as hell and I've got about a million miles of standard tranny driving experience.

the spring to the center is a great asset for the 2-3 shift and also keeps you from slamming 2nd when going for 4th but yes it does require a bit more concentration and effort to make sure you pull down and left when shifting into second. it will become second nature to you in no time though. the stock shifter had NO spring tension at all so that is why it never pops back to center or has any resistence at all.

Yeah I figured that was the reason. After driving it around for a couple days I'm already used to it. This shifter ROCKS!

Just installed mine on Saturday and i would definitely echo most people's sentiments about build quality...seems top notch to me. The feeling is very assuring in each gate. I may have screwed myself over a bit with the setting i chose (i think i went 9 stops/turns) and i lowered my lever as much as possible. Basically i took away most of my mechanical advantage and i find the current setup possibly too stiff/hard but i hope it's something i just get used to or adjust later to a less turns (maybe 6). I would say there is a bit more noise from drive shaft in the cabin (and yes i dynomated as much as you can) but i'm sure that the case with most aftermarket shifters.

I do have one question for George/MGW...was i supposed to receive any sort of grommet or retainer for the shift boot? aka, something to keep the boot flushtight up with the ****? This is a feature of the stock **** but i am not using the stock **** anymore. For some reason i was under the impression that something like that came with it but i never got anything. Could easily be an overlook on my part, but if it's not something that is currently in the kit, perhaps it's something worth adding.

I think I'll be ordering 1 today. The Saleen adapter was not bad for the price but I think its time to step up to something alot better.

Yes... there should have been a rubber adapter that fits on the shifter handle, mine was already on the handle when the shifter arrived in the mail.

Here's pictures that show the adapter on the handle before install and after install.

Contact George, he will fix you up, no problem...

this is the case with your shifter Bobby because you have the 3/8-16 style **** for the samll plastic shift *****. he bought the stock handle which is deisnged to work with the stock ***** that have a built in ring so they do not have a rubber grommet on them.

you should not need the grommet with the stock handle.

10-4 on the stock shifter handle... sorry for the error... never like to give out false information... My Bad...

I guess no one who bought a shifter for the stock **** has posted a installed picture, or I missed it when they did.

See, that's what happens when you ASSume that all the shifter handles would look the same except for the thread size.

You can add me to the growing list of satisfied MGW customers. Installed my shifter last week. No fun crawling under the car and laying on your back at 62 years old. Was a challenge but took my time an except for a sore back things worked out well.
Was a little bit unhappy at first with the 1st to 2nd throw. Made a lot of 1st to 4th shifts trying to get used to the new spring tension with the stock shifter and the Saleen adpator a little notchy but very little side way tension.
Well did some experimenting with positioning the shaft handle clamp and height of the handle. With my long arms I ended up flipping over and turning the clamp end for end there by putting the handle closer to the dash also cocked the clamp a little bit to the right to help clear the shifter from hitting the left side of the shifter bezel. An awful lot of slop in the transmission linkage forces you to get the shifter over to the left and tight. This is no way a issue with the shifter itself. In fact I love the way I am able to customize the the final position of the handle.
The only thing I have to do is remember to keep some tension on the shifter while going to 2nd gear. going to 3rd is ano brainer You can not screw up no matter how you shift. It will not miss 3rd period.
George and MGW are first rate.I have bought many of the pieces and am amazed at the quaility of there products. Add the shifter to the list.

OK, so i love the look of the Hurst handle vs. standard...was not aware the standard was different "looking" (thought it was just thread size) because i wanted what is shown in the picture on the MGW website but that's not what i got. So now here's my predicament...i have a cue ball **** from Haney (http://www.shop.hms-store.com/produc...&categoryId=22) and i ordered it when i had my stock shifter. It came with an insert that would make it work with my stock shifter (12mm) and that same insert/**** works fine with the "standard" handle that came with the MGW. I want to get the Hurst handle but in order to make it work with my **** i need a new insert to make it work with the new thread size (3/8 -16). I believe the **** i have is 16mm and i need an insert to work with 3/8 -16. Thoughts? What can i do? Am i right that the **** i currently have is 16mm? How can i check? (not sure how to measure).

I'm not saying it's MGW's fault that i got the wrong one, i definitely got what i ordered and it's top notch quality, but it might be worth posting pictures of both handles, as they do LOOK different, to eliminate any confusion for future customers. If i would have known about the difference in how they look (and that one comes with a shift boot grommet and other doesn't), i would have ordered the Hurst one.

GREAT SHIFTER, i just need to straighten out my mess.

P.S. Does the install video on the MGW website work for anyone?

if the video doesnt work I would just print up TacoBills install write up...Thats what I'm gonna do. I wonder if the different shifters have different serial numbers or something.
