Ok, now I'm releived that I wasnt going crazy thinking this thing stiifened up after 10-15 miles.....I thought,,,mmmm I guess I'm getting picky here,,but now that I know this, I'm going to install the stock bushings back in today...

What are the stockers made out of?? dont they expand also??

I also noticed that when I don't crank down on tightening the bolt, it seems like it's easier to shift. I know george said to tighten that bolt like any other bolt, but to me there was a big difference leaving it a little loose

the new bushings will alleviate all of this. basically i was trying to be too critical in my tolerances with the linkage. i made them to be VERY close on both diameter and flange thickness. this allowed almost zero play left to right or in the fitment of the bolt and bushings diametrically. this was all good and fine when assembled and tested but did not allow for the thermal expansion that i was told by dupont would NOT occur

the new bushings will have more clearance in both the inside diameter AND the flange thickness to allow much freer movement.

regards
george

Hmmm... I haven't installed my shifter yet, should I hold off and wait for the new bushings?

Use the stock bushings for the mean time, and chang them out later. I know your probably thinking that you don't want to have to get under the car again. your going to find that your going to be under the car again and again fine tuning your throw. You willl be able to swap them out while your adjusting your favorite setting. I have done it around 4 times already and found that 4 turns is good for now......

George, are you just going to make a white ball only or a black one as well, it would be nice to have an option. I would really like to see a custom shaft that has the MGW logo on it in chrome if possible. I would like something to tell people I have the worlds best shifter in my car!
No hurry though, I have to get home long enough to install the shifter first!

George,
I'm sorry I haven't provided any feedback yet. I'm out of town for several weeks. My wife said it is sitting at home waiting for me. But it looks like everyone loves it so far.

I must be getting use to it or the springs have relaxed some. Shifter feels great, no accidental 4th gear or 3rd gear shifts. Seems effortless in every gear now.

I'll be waiting for the new bushings. It's only a little stiff to shift at times. It'll give me a chance to adjust the throw a little shorter. Thanks for a great product and customer service George!

ok let me see if I have this right:

the new spings MGW sent me make the throw easier...but if I like a stiff throw then no need to change?

the new bushing MGW sent me allow more lateral play, and I should definately install those?

I have had the shifter for a month, installing it soon. Thanks!

If you like the stiff springs, you can leave them in. They will not cause any trouble. It is just a preference thing. That said, the progressive springs are the best of both worlds. They are easier to shift and you will still get the same positive shifts you would with the heavier springs. I really don't see any advantage to leaving the heavier springs in.

Don't install the bushings MGW sent you. Reuse your stock bushings or wait on the new bushings from MGW. You can use the bushings MGW sent, but they will make the shifter more difficult to move as they heat up. I think George mentioned once the bushings get above 120 degrees, they start to expand. MGW is going to sent out new bushings shortly. They have not yet done so to my knowledge.

Svt boost,no. The new springs will make it easier to move the shift handle to the left or to the right. In other words, they will center the shifter with a little less force. The first generation bushings were machined too ''exact'' which has caused a few cases of the shifter having a slight bind when it's extremely hot out and the related parts expand do to the heat. The new bushings will be made with room for expansion to keep any potential binding or noise from taking place.

Bushings?

Hey George,
Any idea when you'll be sending the new bushings out? I'm just trying to decide whether to put my stock pieces back in or wait for the new ones. Just curious.

I have not noticed a problem with my bushings yet but maybe that is because I greased my bushings during installation and it is not yet very hot here in Northeastern PA.

So far, I am very happy with the shifter and everything else that I have purchased from MGW.

How do I get a set from you George?

A.

I am at work and don’t have time to read through this whole thread, but have two questions. What does the adjustable stop kit do? Is it necessary? Does this kit come with new bushings? The reason why I ask about the bushings are because I currently have a Saleen short throw adapter and the whit plastic bushings on the shift linkage were really tight. It’s going to be a hard time getting that off and I have a feeling it might become damaged. Other than that, I am just waiting to pull the trigger

simple answer is no the stops are not needed and yes it will come complete with bushings.

and anybody that has bought a shifter do not worry we have all your info and you will be sent out the new bushings without having to ask.
