George, thanks for the clarification. I just wanted to make sure that the unit was installed correctly.

In the situation I described, the hand was on the **** on a downshift from fourth to third and I was contemplating my next move being a downshift to second (tough turns). I don't normally rest the hand on the ****.

If you asking about the gloves, yes I got them at Auto Zone and they are Mechanix brand. If you're asking about the ramps I also got those at AZ and they're Rhino Ramps.

Just to clarify

Around here (Houston) there are so many stop signs and stop lights one can't hardly go any distance without a shift of some sort so its kind of hard to take your hand off the ****. When I can get into a gear where I can cruise for a bit then yes my hand comes off the ****. But for the most part you are either shifting or down shifting or sitting at a light. When I sit at the light I take my hand of the ****..........................

But I love my black eight ball

In case some of you have missed it.... I placed a poll.... MGW Flat Handle Poll.... in this forum to get feedback on a simple flat handle for our shifters.

The poll consist of four sketches that I drew up as ideas for a flat handle for Geoge's great shifter... two of those sketches I sent to George for consideration.

As of today less than 20% of the MGW shifter owners have voted on the poll.. I have posted several times to keep the poll on the first page in the forum.

Thanks to those who have made comments and voted. I have made the last post for the poll.... it will drift into obscurity if no one votes or makes comments after today..

George... I know you've been watching the poll, I'm disappointed in the response... maybe no one wants a flat handle after all..???

My dad chewed my *** when he noticed me doing that (I'm 32 and this is my first manual). Now, I have a tendency to let my fingers kinda drape around the shifter "stalk" when I'm not shifting. My extremely long arms just rest right there.

Sorry Bobby... I don't want a flat handle, I like the "stock" look with my MGW lurking underneath! No 8 *****, "T" handles, or pistol grips for me...

Art... I know some people like the original handle, I like it. It is a handsome piece and looks nice with my white ball. That's what individuality is all about. That's why there are so many great looking mustangs out there.

Sometimes I like to change the look of the interior and I would like to have a flat handle with the MGW logo on it so I can satisfy my whims when I get them. With the old Steeda it was easy to make custom handles. All you needed was some flat plate, a tourch, grinder, a welder to attach the threads and a lot of manual labor. I had a quote done here locally for the straight design sketch and they wanted $150 to make one out of aluminum. I just can't afford that kind of money for a handle. Poor retired folks here ya know... LOL.

It is a great shifter and looks just fine the way George ships them out.

Is this stick available for the MGW yet?

That stick has been available for some time. It is the other MGW stick with the 3/8-16 thread and a black Hurst **** on it.

I have read almost all of this thread at one time or another but I missed any discussion on whether this shifter will accept the stock IUP shift ****. I may be in the minority but I like the IUP ****. The MGW web site states that one selection is the OEM 12mm threads but it doesn't state if you can use the stock shift ****. Will it?

Bob... Jack's photo above with the black ball and the round stainless steel handle is the 3/8-16 handle... the other handle that is available is the one for the OEM 12mm thread, if I'm not mistaken that handle is black and will be covered by the shifter boot when used with the OEM ****. When ordering the MGW shifter you will be asked which handle you want.

I have never seen a picture of the OEM handle, but I believe from other post that it is black.

Exclamation Road-Race/Autocross Use?

Anyone used their MGW-shifter-eqiupped S197 for Autocross or Road Racing?

Is the shifter easy to find each gate, how is the DOWNSHIFTING? (4-3, 3-2, 5-3, 4-2)?

I race NASA and am thinking about ordering an MGW next month, just wondering if the MGW can hold up to the constant beatings and heat encountered in this environment--although it looks MUCH more solid than the stock unit from the pics I've seen.

Thanks,

Cool. That was the (newer) road course in Joliet. Autobahn country club. Just sucked this year because it rained. I mean it was fun, don't get me wrong, it was a great experience getting to know the car in the wet.
Just could have went faster dry.

Yeah, they were still building that when I moved to Arizona....

Also I drove a newer Impala then, so I had no need

Do you have any photos of the end results after the install?

TIA
