George,
Finally got around to installing the new bushings, as well as the progressive springs today. This is also the first time I have adjusted the throw back a bit. I have been running it at max, 12, since I installed.

I adjusted it back to the popular 8 position. I see why this setting is so popular. Smoother shift, but still fast as hell. As a matter of fact, I believe I was hitting second and third faster with the 8 setting, than I was with the 12 setting... . The progressive springs feel great. Not a major difference to me, but my wife had the car two days last week while I travelled, and commented on the shifter..I had her try it with the progressives installed, and she could tell the difference.

Thanks again George. This thing still rocks!! Oh, and everything was still nice and tight down below, and it's been in for about a month or so...
Great, Great product and job!!

Mike

how much fluid should be in a 1995 T5 transmission? I think I'm going to chage it anyways. How much and what kind should I use? Thank-you!

Cole, you're better off asking this question in the SN95 section of the Forum.

I
just ordered my T-5 MGW shifter today. I'm looking for a black Hurst 5-speed shifter **** with the correct threads and the hurst logo on the side. I can't seem to find the 3/4 " 12mm. Anyone know where to look?
I just bought the white Hurst shifter **** with the 5 speed pattern and Hurst on both sides for about $36 from the local Atlantic Speed Shop. I am pretty sure it can be found at Summit or Jegs, but in any case they are still available. If you need it, I can post a part number if I can find the original box it came in.

Sorry, mine is the 3/8-16 thread. I guess I did not read the correct post. Disregard.

George I was about to ask if you had any "MGW" logo shift *****. Will you be making some 12mm threaded ***** as well?

Thanks

Good news on the ****. Always thought a Hurst **** on a MGW shifter was kind of false advertising. I love the Gripper ****, the 5 speed pattern aluminum insert matches the aluminum shift rod shank nicelly. But I'll probably get the white ****, so I can go retro in a few seconds if I want. Yep, I'll get one.

Hmm this may work out for me. Wasn't planning on buying the new shifter for another couple weeks(MGW Shifter > CDC Ducktail, for now ).

Keep us posted, and pictures of course haha

My Install

I finally got my shifter installed last night along with a GT-500 e-brake lever. I started several weeks ago, but didn't have time to finish the installation. I finally got tired of driving my Mustang around without the center console and finished it. I took my Mustang on a short test drive this morning. I like the new shifter. There is noticeably LESS vibration through the shift **** and I did not notice any additional noise. The shifts are very positive and, with the progressive springs, the effort was not a problem. I set my throw at 5 turns since George mentioned 4 and 6 seems popular. The throw still seemed a bit long for me, so I might try 6-8. I installed a white Hurst **** and it looks better than I thought it would. I have the Premier Interior Package (PTP) and the shift **** that comes with that package is a solid aluminum **** that I liked, but the MGW handle and white **** top it easily!! Great shifter George!! Thank you!

Some notes from my install. First, I had not been under my car before. There is more room to work around the shifter than I was expecting. That was a pleasant surprise. The toughest part of the install from a space standpoint is tightening the bolts for the clamp on the front support rod. Not a lot of room to move your wrench. All the other bolts/nuts were easy to get to. Second, I can see how you COULD have more noise if you did not completely seal up the opening with the DynaMat. The DynaMat is a critical step if you want a quiet shifter. I used all of both sheets. Third, I didn't see the need for the stop nut that comes with the Hurst ****. I didn't use it, but I couldn't get my **** completely down. The sealant on the threads of the MGW lever stopped me about one turn too short. My **** is now a permanent part of the lever. It will not budge either way! I even ran the stop nut up and down the threads several times to clear away some of the sealant and it still got stuck. Fourth, I flipped the handle clamp so the nuts are on the passenger side. With the PTP shift boot, I would have ripped the boot on the first shift had I not. Last, TacoBill's How To's are great. I used them for the shifter, spring install, and e-brake lever.

GEORGE,
NOW you tell me!
+1
The white Hurst shifter ball I bought has the 5 spd pattern and Hurst on the side for the 3/8-16 shaft was part #163-0025.
George, I would love one that is hinged across the middle of the ball with a hidden "go-baby-go" type button underneath. THAT would be the cats meow! Have not found one anywhere. The Hurst sidewinder ball just doesn't do it for me. Please consider! Thanks.
Love my shifter with +8 turns out. Tight and short and crisp shifts.

George... Please don't make your white shifter ball over 2" in diameter.. somewhere from 1 3/4" to 2" is an ideal size. I have had the 2 1/4" ***** that have the 12mm X 1.75 thread and the ball is just to big, especially for people with small hands.

The new 3/8-16 ball I bought for the new shifter is 1 3/4" in dia. and is perfect.. IMO. It also looks more like it belongs on the shifter handle.

Thanks
Bobby M.

Curious

Has anybody else noticed this syndrome? When the outside temp is very warm, and the car has been driven and is hot, the shifter seems to get stiffer. It seems much freer when everything is cool. I don't think it is the tranny because I never noticed it with the stock shifter. Just wondered if something in the shifter is expanding with temperature and getting tighter.

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!

it is funny that you post this now because this has just come up with another TMS member and i personally have experienced this very thing
also. i went in yesterday and did some chekcing on the cause

what i have found is that the bushings that i have made are a little too precise. the fit is so good that the small amount of thermal expansion that occurs when the temps get above 120 degrees is causing it to stiffen up. i am also hearing a squeaking sound when it tightens up that is common with urethane when there is no room for movement.

i AM working on a fix and i have it coming ASAP!!!

i am working with Dupont on a new material that is actually a bit harder and has a teflon additive. it will have an EXTREMELY low friction coefficient and almost zero heat expansion up to 180 degrees. also it can be machined so i will not be molding them but making them in house to control the size even better. when i get them made up which will be about a week i will be sending ANOTHER set of new bushings to everyone.

sorry guys

But hey this is what the beta test is for though and it is making the product as perfected as it can be. for now you can just put the stock bushings back in if the shifter gets too stiff for you and look for the new bushings soon.

regards
george

Which bushings? I just reused the stock ones....

FWIW: The shifter is perfect with the stockers. Don't change bushings "just because". The only people who need the new ones are those who threw away their originals when doing a Steeda or whatever.

BTW George, you have to know how much your "side job" at your plant improves peoples rides. Spending nearly $30k out the door for a loaded 07, and I had this spongy piece of crap ( stock shifter ) to row it with. Your shifter has doubled my enjoyment of the car. That and the 4.10's
