I talked to KC about this:

He confirmed that there is a different instrument cluster part number for those built after 12-2006.

That seems to lend credence to older clusters being the source of the problem.

He also said that he is having difficulty getting the new, reprogrammed units to address the Shaker 1000 failures. Apparently KC's guy isn't returning his phone calls.

Terrific.

I don't care about the speed error, but I did pay a lot of money for my Shaker 1000 system and I want it to work like it did before I got the NAV system.

It's been six months since this started, and quite frankly my patience is wearing thin. I'm getting to the point of just forgetting the whole thing and going back to my Shaker 1000 or something aftermarket.

Unhappy

Shoot, my 2007 with the Shaker 500 has a 9/14/2006 build date. Does that mean I'm out of luck? I really wanted to maintain the factory look. None of the aftermarket systems offer both navigation and a 6 disc in-dash changer. Is there anyone with a pre 12/2006 build and navigation that does not have the speed sensor error?

So can anyone that has worked with Dominic for reprogramming report if they had any issues after the reprogram? I have an '07 with a 4/07 build. I bought an '08 (6/07 build) unit.

The Pioneer Z2 has a 10 gig hard drive dedicated to music, that will hold more than 6 CD's.

I have the NAV in a 10/06 build GT500 and while it has the speed error, it works fine other than that. If I can find out for certian that a later build instrument cluster would fix it, I might would be willing to pony up for one. But realisticly the speed error is no big deal and the unit sounds and works fantastic. They are available new for less than I paid now. I have seen them new for as little as $1500 and used for well under a grand.

so what is the verdict? If I buy a nav radio from an expidition for example, could it be reprogramed to work in my '07 Mustang (replacing a shaker 500) and the only error is the 'speed' error that can be cleared but the nav will function? thanks.

Not sure on the expidition specificly but the answer to your question is yes if your programmer knows what they are doing both with the head unit and matching it to your car.

Kevin is working on getting the reprogrammed unit from his guy. The nav works fine, except for the speed error like everyone else is getting. The only thing that is not working is my subs. Even without the subs it is still 100 times better than the skipper 500. To those guys with the pioneer units I know they are nice, I have a Z1 in my 02, but they don't have a couple of nice features that the Ford unit has. They are not RDS capable and the Bluetooth unit only lets you voice dial by number or from favorites (only 5 slots). You are not able to access the phone directory while moving, unlike the mobile ease unit in my 06. Sure you can't watch a DVD on the ford unit, but I can count on one finger how many times I have used that feature on the 02.

I am really REALLY frustrated here.

I have finally decided to swallow teh $110 shop rate and convinced my dealer to reprogram the nav unit. They had previously refused, stating that only Ford can do it.

Got the car back today, and it STILL displays the Mercury symbol. Apparently, the guy sais that they used the VIN off a car that had the nav unit, and uploaded the program into mine. Upload was successful, but the nav unit is still using the old program. WTF? They charged me 1/2 an hour, but that's still $55 into the toilet.

What EXACTLY do they need to do to get it right? I'd like for this to be matched to my car. The guy is now talking about getting the as built info for the unit I have and 'tricking' it into accepting the new programming.

What does Dominic charge to sort this out? How long does he take?

Cheers

You might contact Pioneer since they created the units. They may be able to get the information you need for the dealer to correct it.

I think I remember reading that Dominic charges $100 or so. I still haven't gotten mine re-programmed, and I'm getting tired of not being able to see any lights, or having to change the brightness manually, instead of it being automatic with the lights. Might have to do that when I get back home.

$100 + shipping it there and back . Must as well cough up the rip off money here and not deal with wait times .

My lights work fine, I just have the Mercury symbol that I want to get rid of. What a hassle.

Cheers

I've already tried the local dealers and none of them had a clue, so I'd rather spend the money getting it done right then keep trying and getting it wrong.

I'm thinking your right. Sometime in January, I'll pull it out and send it to ARC and just be done with it and get it done right.

Cheers

I think I'm going to pull my NAV out this weekend, I'll be on vacation at home until the new year, might as well work on the car, right? I've got some powder-coated valve covers to install too.
