I installed a Nav system in my 05, bought it from the eBay guy, I've got the error when it boots up, so I ordered a new Instrument Cluster ($275 online) from ford.

Ford programs the new cluster with your mileage before they sent it to you, and there is a $300 core charge.

Cluster should be here tomorrow, when I get it installed this weekend, I'll let everybody know if it works.

Keep us up to date on how his does with the NAV.

wht05vert The cluster will have to be programmed before you are able to use it. You will have to take it to a dealer and they will pull the code from your old cluster then upload it to the new one.

New cluster arrived, installed with 4 screws, did not require programing, pugged in and the cluster worked perfectly, but not the navigation system, still displays the error message.

There is a possibility that the cluster sent to me was based on my VIN # and not the part number I ordered (2008). I will have this resolved on Monday, and let you know what happens.

Confirmed today that the instrument cluster I installed in the 05 was an 08 part number.

Changing your cluster with one manufactured after mid 06 apparently will not resolve the error message issue.

It sux, but i think this is the bottom line with a 05 nav install

Has anyone done any good by contacting H&H yet. If a new cluster will not do it does anyone have any ideas what to try next. I really want one but I am not going to drop the money for them if we can't get them fixed.

I sent my NAV out to H&H last night. I'm expecting to still have the speed error, but I can live with it. Right now I just want the thing programmed properly so I can put it back in the car. If it somehow does fix the Speed error, I'll be ticked to death and will let you all know.

Do you think they would know anything about the speed error and what we would have to do to get it fixed.

I haven't actually spoken with them yet, but them might.
They're supposed to call me when they get it to confirm the options (line-in, sat radio, etc.) before they program it, I'll ask them then.

UPS says they'll get it on Wednesday.

I talked with them Thursday. There is nothing they can do for the speed error. I am considering trying a new cluster, but right now I don't want to put out the ~$300 for the cluster plus another $300 core and $200 to program in my car. I might do it later if and when we know a little more about what is hapening.

A little over three weeks ago I took my 05 Mustang into the Lincoln dealer that services my other cars and asked them to figure out why I get the error message. They still have the car, they say they have been working with Ford to sort out the issue.

The Lincoln dealer thinks this issue can and will be resolved. The Mustang is only driven in the summer, so I told the Lincoln people to take as much time as they need.

I will keep you posted.

I sent my NAV back to KC for re-programming. Fingers crossed. He tells me that he won't be able to fix the speed error (That's OK, I'm not worried about that) but his programmer should be able to fix the compatibility with the Shaker 1000 amp system.

After reinstalling my old Shaker 1000 HU, it was rapidly apparent just how BAD the factory NAV had sounded!!! WOW... That Shaker 1000 really thumps.

Man, that reprogrammed NAV had better thump just like the Shaker 1000 or it's history.

UPDATE for those who are interested:

Spoke with KC today, he says that the reprogramming of my factory NAV is complete, and that it's on the way back to me!

Fingers crossed that it will FINALLY run my Shaker 1000.

Of interest to all is that he is also saying that to get rid of the "speed error" not only will the instrument cluster need replacement but also the speed sensors located at each wheel.

Ouch. That can get expensive. I think I will be living with the "speed error" for a long time to come.

As soon as I get it back and installed I will update you all as to how it sounds. KC seems very enthusiastic about his new programming guy and says he really knows his stuff!

Other issues:

The "6p" NAV disc is about $200.

The NEW NAV disc for 2008 is list price around $600!?!!! KC doesn't think it will be compatible with the 2007-2008 NAV system - he says that he thinks 2009 NAV systems will be different yet again... the so-called "Gen 2" NAV units.

It never ends, does it?

So how much would it cost for everything if you installed it yourself?

When I bought my nav system from the eBay guy he programed it for a Mustang with a Shaker 500 and the audio worked perfectly from the get-go. After I put an 08 spedo in the Mustang, I left it with a dealer to see what he could do about the speed sensor error. After working with Ford, the word I got back was that the nav system was not a recommended upgrade for an 05. Dealer said there is nothing they can do about the error.

On the other hand, the error is not hard to live with, the unit works just like the one in my f150

If you have the 6P data DVD in another car, you can copy the DVD on your computer, it is not copy protected. I copied the 6P disk in my truck and that is what I use in the Mustang.

As far as I can see, the only drawback to not having the speed error fixed is resale. The error may scare off the guy you want to sell your car to someday. It works great, and is readable in the direct sun with the top down.

The nav systems sell on ebay for $500 - $1700, The way I understand it is that the difference in price is in how much support you get with it. For $1200, the eBay guy sent me the nav unit, 6P DVD, GPS antenna, an adapter for the radio antenna and programmed it for a mustang with the options I have.

If I had it to do all over again, I would buy the cheapest unit I could on eBay, have Ford program it for my car (about $100) and get a GPS antenna for about $40 from Ford. There is also an adapter you need for the radio antenna, a few bucks at Radio Shack.

Installation is a piece of cake.

I have been reading this thread with great interest as I am about to order an '08 Nav radio for my '08 GT with the Shaker 500 system from an eBay vendor. Question...this is a new radio, never installed before, so does it need programming to replace the Shaker 500, or is that only if it has been in a different vehicle?

Nav radios need to be programed for the options in your car. A new one will have to be programed before installation.
Good luck.

I just talked to H&H (the guys that programmed my nav) and they can make the factory nav play movies on the nav screen. Will was going into all sorts of technical jingo, but I thought that this tidbit might be intersting to some who want thier passengers entertained.

Cheers
