I am quite happy with mine. Everything works, except the speed sensor error. It means that when I lose satelite signal, the GPS stops tracking the car's movement, but it corrects when signal is reaquired. Without the error, it uses the speed and direction the car is travelling at to keep track of movement.

Mine came out of a Mountaineer, so the only other thing I have to suffer is the Mercury logo (until I get it reprogrammed)

Also, I have seen that the 08s have nice chrome rings on the volume and load/eject buttons. No way to get something like that for the old ones, huh?

Cheers

Cool

Ive seen used nav units on ebay cheap.

If I could get one from an explorer or mountainer and get it installed without reprogramming it would be worth dealing with the speed error.

Most just need the gps antenna.

what do you think.

That's a nav upgrade for 600.00 to 700.00 bucks

You will need an adapter for your radio antennae as well. I forget what it is called, but my local electronics store carried it, so you shouldn't need to order it.

Also, I don't know why, but the GPS antennae for the Mustang is double than that for the Mountaineer/Explorerer, which is the same piece. I ordered one for the Explorer and saved $100.

Cheers

No need to keep it behind closed doors! Go on Ebay and you can pick one up for between $500 and $700.

Ibought mine for $500, but I then had to get the antennae for $90, the DVD for $60 and the adapter for $15.

Reprogramming will cost me $100 if I choose to do it.

Cheers

So theres no way around these speed sensor error? This is the only thing keeping me from buying this nav unit. Maybe Im being to picky, but if I pay that much money for something, especially a Ford unit, I want it to work 100%. Hopefully they find a fix for it soon.

Might Be Of Help

I bought a new 2007 Mustang GT a few months ago and the dealer installed a Ford factory nav unit after the sale. I had the problem with the unit throwing the fault error message each time it started. The dealer worked and worked to find a fix. They actually replaced the entire unit three times, but to no avail. Finally after consulting with Ford, and God knows who else, they came up with an answer. The problem was caused by some mis-match with the instrument cluster. They replaced the cluster under warranty...problem solved....finally

Now this is promising. Can you give more details? The new cluster, does it have the same part number etc...?

Cheers

Followup

I'm not sure about the details. I'm away from home on a business trip right now. As soon as I get back I'll provide all the part numbers, etc., from the work order. The dealer did say they took the unit from my car (the third one they installed since we started with this problem) that was giving the fault message and put it in another 2007 Mustang GT on the lot and it worked perfectly. This is what led them to look further than the nav/radio unit.

This *is* very interesting. Of course, since we installed these NAV units aftermarket (not a DIO) this fix will probably end up costing us more $$$... SIGH...

I'm not spending time getting up-to-date with these speed sensor errors, but are they a problem only if you install the nav system on a Shaker 1000 radio, or is it a problem across the board? That, and is there any word on whether or not the Sync unit will be retrofittable, or when the Mustang will get it?

The speed error applies to ALL 2007 and newer mustangs, even some with factory installed NAV systems. Its hit or miss on its effect in any given vehicle.

Nav Unit Update

As I mentioned a week or so ago, my 2007 Mustang navigation system suffered from the error fault message every time the system started and all the other problems discussed here. The dealer replaced the radio/nav unit three times with no success. The service manager said they worked with Ford and their engineers to try to resolve the problem. Finally they replaced the instrument cluster and everything now works perfectly.

The service manager explained that the vendor made an internal change in the instrument cluster after March of 2007. He said the units still have the same part number but units made after March 2007 have some internal differences. For whatever reason the earlier units are causing these problems. That's about all I know. He recommends checking the cluster for the later manufacturing date. By the way, this was done under warranty. Good thing, they must have spent thirty hours trying to figure this out, Now it's perfect. Hope this helps some of you guys.

Cool! I might have to give that a try! My car was built in '06, early in the '07 production run.

I've still got to get the nav unit re-programmed, but if I have the error after that, I'll try the instrument cluster switch.

Ahhh... now THAT is interesting about the instrument cluster...

Those of us with older clusters (ca 2005) are most likely out of luck as far as warranty goes.

Might be a good time to upgrade to the GT500 cluster.

I spoke to my dealer and they called thier ford rep. Ford is claiming ignorance of any update to the GT500 cluster between Job 1 and now. They will not simply replace it to 'try' fixing my nav unit.....Unless a tsb comes out stating that this is the suggested fix, I doubt many dealers are going to be changing out instrument clusters to fix the radio.

Update to update

Don't know if makes any difference but my car is a 2007 GT not a GT500. There is a white stick on label on the back of the cluster with the manufactuer date on it. It can be checked right out of the parts box. Don't think it would make any difference but my car is a California car.

I had to really hound the dealer to resolve the problem. No progress was being made. I actually filed suit in small claims court for a refund of the difference between the cost of the regular Shaker 500 and the Shaker 500 with the nav unit. Amazingly, two days before the court date, they decided to try again, and keep trying until it was fixed. All it cost me was the $35 small claims filing fee. Sometimes you just have to let them know you're really serious and make sure they understand it's their problem, not yours. Once the problem was resolved I actually have a good relationship with them. They just tried to take the easy way out first. I just figured everything should work properly on a new $31k car. Good luck
