man I would at least try for a warranty claim of course after I took the s/c back off .... I know thats probably wrong but they get parts cheaper than we do lol

Today was a learning experience. I'm learning to race this car all over again with the new tires. That's ok though, I enjoyed it a lot. My best run for the day was 13.864 @ 99.58 but I did also have a 13.95 @ 101.03. With some more experience with these tires I'm sure I can get those times down quite a bit. The car does hook much better than with the stock tires though, I'm very pleased about that. I'm usually a little rusty on my first trip to the track for the year anyway, I'll be back in the groove of things soon enough. :nice:

Justin, I bet you'll get better everytime you go.

frdtch05gt 4/21/08 09:46 AM

I'm running BFGoodrich KDW tires, this was my first time running the car on my new wheel and tire setup. I know for sure I will improve as I get better at launching the car with this setup. :nice: They do hook up a lot better than the stock tires. On my first run they hooked without a squeal or anything, but I may have launched a little soft on that run. Overall I'm happy that I was able to get the day off and go out there, it was a lot of fun.:D

Stupid question about our radios. I am MP3 challenged. :dunno:

It seems that they can play files that are MP3's (judging by the MP3 symbol on the faceplate) and there is a button marked "FOLDER".

Does this mean that I can burn a CD full of MP3's in different folders, just like storing files in different folders on a computer. And then select the music in different folders?

I always burn a "music" CD and I am limited to the number of songs. But it looks like you could get a lot more in a straight MP3 format. Is my logic correct?

Way over my head Chris...I am sure one of the young punks here can answer your question!!:jester:

Stoenr 4/21/08 06:22 PM

Yes, when you burn a cd, burn a data cd, not a music cd. And the folders are just like on the computer.

red454 4/21/08 07:14 PM

Wow - I can't believe I have had the car almost 3 years and did not know that...

Thanks!

Stoenr 4/21/08 07:21 PM

Lol, I have about 500-600 songs in my dash. Now if they would have made it able to read a dvd that would have been awesome!

red454 4/21/08 07:47 PM

Wow - so is it restricted to only MP3's, or can other formats be played?

Stoenr 4/21/08 07:53 PM

MP3's and .wav that I know of, but .wav are so much larger, no reason for it.

What's up Kiddo? Morning.

On a different subject. I drove the Stang to work today and have a CEL light on by the time I got to work. I don't have my tuner with me so I will check in out this evening. If I had to make a guess it is probably the code about the rear O2 sensor slow to heat. Larry had this code a couple of times after he put on his longtubes. But I have put about 2000 miles on her since the longtubes with no issues. Guess we will see tonight.

Well I got home and put the tuner on the car to read the DTC codes and to my surprise it has nothing to do with the O2 sensors and longtubes as I suspected. The code was P0456 (EVAP LEAK MONITOR) small leak detected. I did a little searching on the code and the first thing they say to check is the gas cap. Mine looks in good shape and was tight. I looked up the hood for a vaccum line cut, melted, etc. Nothing. So I cleared the code and we will see if it comes back. Any other ideas other than the gas cap on what can cause this code to so up?:dunno:

Wouldn't be surprised. I just had it re-done a couple of weeks ago and gave them some up front pointers this time. Told them that the exhaust was 304 SS and won't rust, the wheels and driveshaft are aluminum and they won't rust. And explained the issue I found with the stock wheel being out of balance because of them and their overspray. I told them they weren't painting the underside of a bridge you know. :poke: So keep it off all rotating and hot components this time. Probably shot some in my gas tank to show that old bastard you know.

What you need to do is start blowing bong hits into the gas tank and looking for any smoke that may be escaping

On a serious note, clear the codes and see if they come back. If they do you may need to find someone with a smoke machine, or take it into a shop.

I accually read about this procedure on Google tonight. I cleared the code and will drive her tommorow an see if it comes back. I found out there is 3 different codes for the fuel system leak. The one I have for a small leak. one for a medium size leak and than one for a big leak. At least at this point I have a small leak. The first thing to check is the gas cap. Then it says to check vaccum lines. Problem is I don't know where these lines are at present.
Scott:confused:

aircare84 4/22/08 07:27 PM

Scott,
I may have some PDF's on the fuel system if you need.

Also, try a Google search for fixing or troubleshooting that code.
Only ones I had was for a rich O2 sensor, it followed the suspect sensor when I swapped sides, but it's been about 1K since the last one popped up for me.

red454 4/22/08 07:31 PM

Stoenr 4/22/08 07:32 PM

Yeah, I was going to ask about the specifics of the code(small, medium, large) check around that black metal shield under the gas tank for starters if it returns. It holds some key evap system components.

+1 The internet has made life a lot easier thats for sure.

frdtch05gt 4/22/08 11:17 PM

I hate that code, it's a pain in the neck to diagnose. The smoke machine is the best way to find it.

On another note, I once had an E150 conversion van give a gross leak code, brand new truck. I lifted it up and put the smoke machine on it, and what I found made me go ! The conversion company, in their haste to drill the holes in the floor to bolt in the seats, drilled right through the rear floor and into the charcoal canister under the third row. Their drill hit the canister at least twice, making big holes in it. Amazing the stuff you see at a car dealer.

Thanks for the help guys. Well I drove the car to Wally World last night and to work this morning and so far "no code". :dunno: I don't know how quick it would return if there really is something wrong.

Hopefully it doesn't come back....I'm learning quickly the sensors and computer in these cars are very, very sensitive.

It is a pretty neat thing to do. We have been able to do that in Ohio for a number of years. The wife had a 65' Convertible that we had 1965 tags on. Her dad was one of those guys that kept all of his old plates on a wall of his garage. He had a set of 65 tags with the number 8888. He gave them to us and I had them restored. We don't have the car anymore but I still have those tags. Now they are hanging up in my garage.

So Scott you find out what threw that code??? Last couple of days when I was in 1st gear the engine sounds were different. Almost like the clutch was slipping but it was still pullin fine. Came out of an off-site work meeting to go back to work and remembered I had put the rear seats down to load some things in the trunk a couple of days ago. I didn't hear the different engine sounds at all the rest of the day. I fixed it:banana::nice:. Going camping this weekend,,I hope.

Nope..still don't know why I got the code yet. Drove the car last night and back into work this morning and it still has not came back. I would suspect it was a loose gas cap but it was tight when I checked it.:dunno:

Hey - speaking of codes, if you run an after market air filter, is it likely to cause code problems?

Reason I ask is that Indystang tried one of the Air Hogs filters and after about a week he said there was a code. He did not say what the code was. It was reset by the dealer.

I thought the engine controls would adjust / adapt to minor airflow changes...

He has a spare filter and I was thinking of trying it out.

Hey Chris,
If that airfilter allowed much more air flow than the stock filter I bet he got lean codes. I know when I first put on my C&L intake I drove in around for about 5 miles before I loaded the new tune (still running stock tune) and I got a CEL for "right bank lean" and "left bank lean" in that short time. These things are very sensitive to changes like that. And I drove the car to work and back again today (about 26 miles) and still no code.
Scott

After a few more days of "no codes" I wonder want would happen if you swapped them back to their original positions. :jester:

LOL I have no idea.... but probably won't try it anyway. Now, if I could just get the local dealer to stop calling me, telling me to come pay and pickup that other sensor I ordered hahahaaa .

I installed my Eradispeed 14" rotors on the front of my car yesterday, works very well. This will do until next year when I do the full Brembo setup. I may need to get my tires re-balanced, have a little vibration in the wheel around 60 or so before I even touch the brakes, so I'm thinking the tires didn't balance properly.

congrats man, you deserve it. :nice:

It happens. I balanced my own tires and made sure they came out to dead zero and still have a slight vibration. I'll redo them again one of these days. I may have lost a weight since I used sticky weights and the wheels were waxed up pretty good.

Have you and Kim been to Marco Island??? It's been 3 years for us. We went 6 years straight from 1995-2001. I am looking forward to the down time. No big plans other than getting fatter and sassier. :nice:

Best side of Florida for the best beachs. :nice: The wife and I stayed on Anna Marie Island just south of ST. Pete on our honeymoon back in 1975. ( Waiting for some smart comment from Tom..........:jester:) Great place to visit for a week or two....but I wouldn't want to live down there year round!!:(

Stoenr 4/24/08 05:52 PM

Yeah, I would not want to live there. I dont want to live here either tho.
My parents go for 2 weeks and get a big condo on the beach, all I gotta do is get there and pay for most my drinks and activities.

Ohh yeah don't get me started the the flight schedule.....We bought straight thru flights back in Feb. from Columbus Ohio. 3 weeks ago they told us our return flight would be 2 hrs later and would have a layover of 2 hrs in Cinncinnati. Today we got an email saying the flight leaves Fort Meyers 2 hrs earlier and will now have a layover in Atlanta. WTF over!!:banghead: I hope they don't change it again while we are in the air on Saturday!!! Fer's !!!!!!!!!
