Anonimac... you have me a little confussed here... Are you wanting to use a Hurst flat shifter handle with the MGW shifter, am I reading your post correctly..??

I think that would require some extensive modification to make it work.. square handle into a round hole...!! Of course, I haven't seen the standard 12mm thd shifter handle as apparent from my post above.

Also, I don't know of any mustang shifters that use anything larger than a 12mm thd, if the ball was disigned to be used with interchangeable inserts, the ball insert might be as large as 16mm... I don't know of a real easy solution to your problem, cost wise, it might be just as easy to buy a new 3/8-16 thd. ball/****.

No, i will clarify...what i want is the OTHER handle option from MGW. There is the standard one (12mm) and the OTHER one (often refered to as the Hurst handle because, if i understand it correctly, it uses the Hurst thread size) which is 3/8-16. I was under the impression that the two were the same with the exception of the thread size but that is not the case. The 3/8-16 handle LOOKS different...it has the metal part between the shift boot and **** and comes with a retainer for the boot. The standard handle, 12mm, doesn't come with this ratainer (because the assumption is that most would be installing that handle with the stock **** which has the boot retainer built in) and therefore doesn't expose any of the handle to be seen. I think George did a great job designing a beatiful handle and would like to show it off so i would like the 3/8-16 one instead.

I think part of the confusion is that there don't seem to be ANY pics of what the "standard" handle even looks like. The picture of the shifter on the MGW website is shown with the 3/8-16 handle.

On a slightly different topic...i am very interested in the gripper **** from MGW. I have a few questions though...

I have seen it with many different inserts on top. I know there are two options available on the MGW website (GT and "symmetrical" shift pattern), but i have seen it with a Pony logo as well as an "asymmetrical" shift pattern as well. To clarify, by asymmetrical i mean that the "R" is not directly below the 5th gear on the gear pattern, but rather shows more to the right of it. I think this looks better (asymmetrical). I know i'm splitting hairs now, but does anyone know where these other "inserts" come from? Does George offer more options but only two are shows on the website? What is everyone's experience with the gripper ****? Comfortable?

I think i even read on another post that George was working on another ****...any truth to that George??? Can we get some info if it is true? I think i can speak for most here when i say that we can't wait to hear what you're coming out with next.

I think the other grippers you saw are for pre S197 models. George may be able to customize, don't know. As far as the current grippers for ours, I love my gripper. Super comfortable, does not get extremely hot or cold, and gives a good feel in performance shifting opportunities...

I just bought my second MGW shifter today for my son's '05. He's used to the triax which we left on his wrecked '05 (fell asleep at 60mph and hit 9 trees) He doesn't know it's coming this week. He's driven mine and said ''it's too bad I'm saving for a blower, so the shifter will have to wait''. I'm going to help him install it this weekend. He'll be blown away for sure because he's not expecting it.

No, I don't need another kid. You'd probably cause too much trouble anyway. He buys all of his own stuff....I just want to hook him up because he's saving for the blower and he's a good 19 year old young man. Hell, I'm only 40. He works for our family business and shows up every day. He's spending a lot of money on tools and even drops a grand a month on his car just to get the bill gone. I wouldn't do crap for him if he didn't tow the line like he does.

Reverse

George

I've had my shifter in for some time now and really love it. Installed all the updates you have sent, etc. My problem is that sometimes, especially when the car is hot, I have trouble shifting into reverse. Is this a transmission issue or something I have done in the installing of your shifter?

when you say that you have troulbe what exactly is it doing? if all the other gears are fine i would think it is more of a synchro issue with your tranny. does it feel like the shifter is binding or does it just not pop into gear easily and do you have to maybe let the car roll a bit foward to get it in? if that is the case it is the tranny.

george

p.s. and i AM working on some shift ***** i just have gotten WWAAAYYY behind due to our gov't contract work. SOON i swear!!!!

It just won't go in, like the gate isn't aligned. No problems with 1 thru 5 ever. I have discovered that if I have a problem getting into reverse that if I go into 1st then back to reverse it works fine. So, if this is a trans issue is it something I should take back to the dealer, or is it common with this trans? Will they give me a lot of crap about the upgraded shifter causing the problem?

Well, SOON can't come soon enough for me because my cue ball shifter just came out in my hand today...all the resin/glue that holds the screw threading in the cue ball literally flaked all over the shiftboot and fell out. So...any timeframe for that new ****??? lol

This sounds normal. Also try putting in nuetral before going to rev, let the clutch out, then back in, then try reverse, should go in a little nicer.

God I remember my old man telling me that when teaching me how to drive like it was yesterday (17 years ago)
