Toyota and Mazda have dropped Takata now. Mitsubishi and Subaru are next.

Takata's share price has fallen 40%.

So seriously, when they go bankrupt, who is gonna fix our airbags?

The manufacturers will still be on the hook for the recalls, but what supplier is going to make a replacement when the copyright on the device will be tied up in bankruptcy court.

in that point I would think Manufacturers would have to take over and buy the inflators from other manufacturers and install those, so they dont get the blame thrown on them and to not have bad press thrown on them behind. But I think they should survive for the time being, and will go bankrupt, and/or split and start a new brand making something different?

the government dont care, just another way to grab cash that will never be enough anyway- but in this case and many others, the fines go against making the repairs possible, creating a larger chance of injured citizens...but hey they got 70 million bucks to justify their existence

I drive a 1977 F-150 with no air bags and 38 year old harnesses.
I drive a 1992 Thunderbird with no air bags and those stupid track running passive restraints ... that are 23 years old BTW.
My other 5 have air bags and anti lock brakes.

So now .... since getting the air bag recall notice .... the wife and I just wear full face helmets with visors when we drive / ride the Mustang.

Seriously though .... don't you rekon that your chances of surviving a serious frontal crash are still better with these air bags than they are without any air bags.

tbear853, it's interesting you brought up old cars. I was thinking how simple and sweet my ride was yesterday in my '74 AMC going to a car show down in Atlanta. Cruising on I-985 both ways at about 60 -65 mph for two hours and no safety anything but 5 mph bumpers and a seat belt. Who says you can't live in the past.

our 65 Galaxie has a collapsible steering shaft- I think. wouldnt matter much as the column tube goes straight thru the firewall, surely a heart sticking proposition in a hard hit...I did add rear seatbelts- it came with fronts only. steel dashboard- a buddy joked the steel dashes were easier to clean after a wreck, just wash the people off- eew...it does have self adjusting drum brakes- and I added a dual circuit master cyl.

would hate to get in a wreck in one- no such thing as crumple zones back then- and the new frame is HEAVY- siderails I used 2x4x 1/4 tube, rear aches and torqueboxes plasma cut from 3/16 sheet...the front 3' of frame is original, but it was pretty heavy already...sure the body would easily shear the mounts before bending that frame much

there was a video of a 59 and a 09 impala doing the offset side impact test- the new one didnt even break a window, but the old one stuffed the front tire thru the interior, and the seats went out the windshield with the dummies...shocking how much safer a 'soft' car is.

Received a update from ford today. Apparently they are making a temporary fix. And later when the parts are available they will make the permanent fix. My car is scheduled to go in 12/23/15. What the temporary fix is I don't know. Maybe they will hand you a balloon to blow up.

Received the letter today about the "interim repair" until they can do the permanent repair. I haven't called yet but I wonder what kind of band-aid they're going to throw at it.

My best guess is they are going to install the updated ones like the put in the early recall such as mine to buy some more time. I haven't got the last letter.

NHTSA's website still says "remedy not available" so don't get your hopes up of any parts being replaced with updated ones ...

Run your VIN again, chances are there's still a recall to be done since a few months ago they were replacing recall parts with parts that turned out to be the same

Wow, Good call, would have not bothered to check, nor have I received any letter from Ford. Interesting to say the least. Kinda pisses me off now. Lead to believe I was driving a repaired vehicle.

So that "newer" one was in June per the dealer letter, why in August did they do a recall that didn't do anything.

Some vehicles included in 15S21 are also included in 14B09. The repair parts for 15S21 have not yet been developed and will be the subject of a future announcement

Vehicles that are currently open in 14B09 and 15S21
Dealers should replace the driver
airbag inflator under 14B09.

Why did the dealer do something they got paid for even though it didn't fix the car?
2 reasons.
They got paid for it.
They didn't know the new part wasn't gonna fix the car, at least they most likely didn't.
I think that first recall got suspended over the summer some time, when the news came out that the replacement part was no better than the recalled part.

Makes sense. My anger isn't with the dealer, I love my guys at the dealer, but Ford rather. Hopefully by the time spring arrives, parts that correct the issue will be available.

I'm not even gonna blame ford on this one. This was a goof by a parts supplier. Then the parts supplier gave "parts with the fix" To the manufacturers to put into cars. Then said parts supplier was found to be using the same part with no revisions as a recall replacement. Ford has a lot of issue just like any large bureaucracy, particularly when it comes to customer service, but this one isn't theirs.
