I would have gone with black (or charcoal) on the LL. The silver is way too subtle IMO.
My car is in the same stage as yours right now, Robyn... bumpers are off. It should be getting painted tomorrow. And yeah, the edge is really thin, but I worked out a deal with my painter and he is going to clear the whole panel for an extra hundred bucks. I couldn't complain with that.

Robyn, I had vinyl stripes, but they were only temporary. I had been saving up and finally had enough to go in and get the stripes painted on. I dropped it off Tuesday morning and will be picking it up next Monday afternoon. Originally the guy quoted me for just painting and clearing the stripes, but when they were sanding they went outside where the stipes were going to be. I went over there yesterday morning to check on the car, and they had read my stripe dimensions wrong and thought they were bigger than they were. So, now they are going to paint the stripes and clear all panels. So, I kinda lucked out. I could have made him do it for free, but I told him I'd give him an extra hundred. I might give them a bit more if the job is flawless.
As far as the trunk, I had them weld the original holes in the trunk from the stock spoiler and prime and repaint the trunk. It cost $300 for those of you who might be interested in getting this done. Of course, I wish I had ordered the car originally without the spoiler, but didn't think I was going to do anything back then. Now, I definitely want a ducktail (probably the CDC one) and will be getting it in a couple months.

I think he meant to save up your money for painted stripes. Not to save your money by getting stripes. ANd I agree completely. If I had just saved my money that I put towards my vinyl stripes, I would have been able to get my painted stripes 1-2 months sooner. And, wouldn't have had to spend hours taking off my vinyl stripes and all the stick stuff that comes with it. A ood vinyl job can look very nice, don't get me wrong. But, they aren't really that much cheaper than paint if you think about it. A good vinyl stripe job will cost you $300-$400. Painting on stripes (and clearing only the stripes) will cost $900-$1000. And when you think that paint will last at least 2-3 times longer than vinyl, it will pay for itself. Now, you can't compare a $2000 painted stripe job (where they clear the entire panels so you can't feel an edge) to vinyl. But you can compare vinyl to when they only tape off, paint and clear the stripes. Which should not cost you more than a grand.

Acadian,
Sounds great,
Can't wait to see it when its done.
Are you going with the same color? What dimentions?

Yes, going with black... semi-gloss... and the dimensions are modified Shelby dimensions. They are going to start out 10" wide at the front bumper and up to the front of the hood... taper out to 11" at the end of the hood/bottom of the windshield... 11" at the front of the roof, tapered to 10-7/8" at the back of the roof... 10-5/8" at the front of the trunk, tapered to 10-1/2" at the rear of the trunk and down the rear bumper. And an inch between the stripes. I did a lot of calculations and measurements to get those numbers and that's what I think will work the best for this car. Of course, that's my opinion. I guess we'll see.

Well, that sounds good.
I did 11 inches straight, from what I saw in pictures, seems the narrower the stripes and wider the gap the more you have to pay attention to tapering them. It looks good so far, I'm going to stop after work and see it with the bumpers on. I miss driving it, can't wait to get it back!

Don't know if you're still looking for examples, but here is my LL with 10" wide and 1" space silver stripes and a photochop of the same car mocked-up with the black. Hope it helps.

Yeah, I have seen that picture. It helps some, but the gap is still too wide and the stripes themselves aren't wide enough.

Glad I could help. Here's the black mock-up from the back. Good luck, I spent a lot of time trying to decide on color and size. They do look good with the stripes though.
I got my car back from the paint shop last night, washed it and took some pics this morning, and will post them when I get home this evening. I didn't have time to upload the pics from the camera this morning. The stripes look great though, and are smooth to the touch... you can't feel an edge at all.
Ok, I finally got home to post the pics that I took this morning. These are painted stripes... 1" space between stripes... starting at 10" wide at the front bumper and up to the front of the hood, tapering to 11" at the back of the hood, 11" at the front of the roof tapering to 10-7/8" at the back of the roof, 10-5/8" at the front of the trunk tapering to 10-1/2" at the back of the trunk, and 10-1/2" down the back bumper. These are modified Shelby stripe dimensions that I thought would work on this car with a 1" gap.
I had the shop clear all panels so that you cannot feel an edge, and let me tell you... this is the way to go. I originally had brought them my hood scoop and had them clear only the stripes. The edge was minimal, but after feeling no edge when they cleared the hood, I told them to do the scoop as well as the whole car like that. Well worth the extra money, IMO.
The hood scoop is the Roush scoop, and is non functional at this time. I already have ideas on how to make it a functional "ram" air hood scoop by cutting a hole in the hood under the scoop and making some sort of duct to get air right to the air filter. When I do this, I'll do a write-up here so others can maybe give it a shot.
For those who don't know, I had the spoiler from the factory. I had the body shop weld the old holes and paint the trunk before they sprayed the stripes. I will eventually (within the next month or two) be getting the CDC or SS ducktail spoiler and having them paint and stripe that. I really did not like the factory spoiler, but I'm not 100% convinced that I like it without a spoiler at all. It's growing on me though. A ducktail would be real nice though, I think.

Ok, these stripes are a little different. Vinyl made and installed by a local shop. I wanted to do something different and have always liked the look of the 70 Mach 1 hood stripe. I also did not want to stripe the entire car as I don't like trunk stripes with the tail light panel black out (which I do like).
I started with the idea that Foxbat used on his car but I didn't want to run them up to the windshield and stop. So the curve around the top of the Mach 1 seemed right for me. The dimentions are a bit wider than the original Mach 1 stripe as I felt the wider hood called for a wider stripe. Placement of the washer jets also drove the placement, so wider stripe.
Is there a shaker in my future? Maybe, but probably won't have the cash. I realize that many of you will not like these but I thought they were different and also connected with the colorful past of the Mustang. So let's here what you all think.
