rdh03mach1,

That's very nice. Where did you get that done? Are you planning to black out the rear (not saying you should, but just curious as that's seems to be a common practice)

Here is my Legend Lime GT with silver stripes.
They were applied wet. .... The hood, roof, and trunklid were easy. The lower portion of the front and rear bumper covers were very difficult, I almost gave up at one point.

I am curious as to how you applied the hood stripes while they were wet. When I did mine I first tried them wet, simply impossible due to the curves in the hood. They had to be applied dry.

Just got them done yesterday. Can't wait till it's all fully cured. Got it sitting out baking in the sun right now.

Check out the pics here My Car Page

Stripes are Vinyl 10" w/ 2"gap
Tint is 30% all around

If they were done yesterday you do know that they have already cured since they are vinyl...right.....

Now get in that car and go cruising.

Well he finished at about 8:00 last night so it did not get a chance to sit out in the sun very much. It was a wet application so some of the water bubbles had to dry out of it. But after leaving it out today it is starting to look nicer.

I know this reply is waaaaay late. I apologize, I wasn't ignoring you, my e-mail settings were not correct so I did not see your question.

To answer your question, I did them wet because I don't know any other way. I always assumed that dry would be much more difficult, so I didn't even try. And if you look real close, mine are not perfect. They're very good, just not perfect. Most people would never see the tiny mistakes that I know are there.

And I left out some details in my description. The pieces for the front and rear bumper covers did not start out as 10" wide. I had to pre-cut those pieces with built-in curves from material wider than 10". I also had to employ a hair dryer to slightly stretch the vinyl to make it work. In the end I'm happy, but what a pain in the behind it was to install these stripes!

I bring you my 'BLACK WIDOW'. (appoligies to other BW's out there)

A little background.

I really love Redfire and almost ordered that exterior color. However I also wanted ICAP. The red leather AND Redfire exterior was too much red IMO. So I went with Black exterior (much car washing in my future - I know). but I still wanted my Redfire. Then it hit me, what about Redfire stripes? I got hooked when I tried that combo using the Paint Striper link from TMS... So the plans were put into motion. I haven't seen this combo from anyone before, did I miss it? So either I'm loony, color blind, senile or all of these - but I just love this.

Details:

I used the Lemans tapered pattern, 1.5" gap between the stripes. Bumpers, hood, roof, trunk, and spoiler were wet sanded, painted, clear coated, wet sanded again ,to remove bump at the edge of the stripes, and professionally polished. The only exception was the side stripes where they only wet sanded and cleared from the top of the stripe down. The whole car was re-polished as the factory, or dealer, tried to ‘make it shine’ in their own special way ;( All better now.

I can post all the dimensions if people are interested. I just love it – oh I said that.

Redfire has a way of being so many different shades depending upon the lighting. I also like that the stripes are more subtle than say a bright red would be. In low light they just about disappear.

I can get better pictures tomorrow if there is interest...
Stripes were done by Marshall Services - Brookfield Wisconsin Ask for Aaron and tell them 05Stang sent you.
Oh and don't ask how much this all cost - I ain't saying.

(PS: I now really need to change my Avatar..)

I agree with Eric. That is one of the best looking striped Mustangs I've seen yet.
What are the rest of the dimensions? For my taste, the top and bottom stripes on the sides are too narrow, but the main stripes on top of the car are killer.

The red on black looks great... and is something you aren't gonna see everyday. Nice choice. The only problem I see is that your brake calipers are straight red, while your stripes are refire. It makes the calipers look orange. Either way, it's a pretty decent contrast. I'd consider painting the calipers black or get some black and red brake paint and try and mix yourself a darker red by adding a tiny bit of black to the red paint. You'd be able to make something that came pretty close to matching your stripes.

Thanks Eric, Jason, Robyn, Ian, John
It's interesting that the thing I'm enjoying the most in my whole Mustang experience are the people (you all included) that I 'meet' along the way.

Ian - You have me thinking about the bright red caliper colors. I'm going to see what color I can create by mixing.

Jason you asked for strips dimension details..
1.5" gap between the main stripes
Main stripes - Front to back...
(front bumper -all)9 1/2", (hood) 9 1/2" to 10 1/2",(roof)10 1/2" to 10 3/8", (trunk, spoiler and rear bumper) 10"

Side stripes - ( Jason I couldn't find any good measurable side stripe examples. The Ford factory v6 stripe is just a 2" band. I was wondering how they would turn out - I like them of course. Note to others to adjust the pattern however they like! ) - Top to bottom...
(top pinstripe)1/4", 1/4" gap,(main stripe) 2", 1/4" gap, (bottom pinstripe)1/4"

I have a MS Word document of the full stripe pattern - PM me with your e-mail address if you want a copy.
------------------------------------------
I'll try and get a few more pics tonight near dusk if it isn't raining.

Thanks to all previous posters on this stripe topic. You gave me the confidence to just go for this combo - even though I had never seen it before.

Jim, I think the red stripes are stunning. I love the first picture. Almost makes me wish I had a black car. Almost.

Just realized that I never added pictures of my stripes to the "official" stripe thread so here goes. This thread was a great resource when I was trying to figure out what I wanted so I encourage anyone with stripes who hasn't posted yet do so for future stangers looking to stripe!

Anyway, the stripes are painted on 18" center, 2" side, 1" gap.
