Bob, the diff in the plastic and aluminum as far as heat goes is a simple test. get your car up to normal operating temp, now touch the factory plastic intake tube, ok now touch somthing near the motor that is aluminum, mabey a accessory bracket or somthing. The aluminum will retain heat. It does disipate it faster than steel or other metal but it will retain heat. The plastic just dosen't.
I personally like the look of the street tube better but as far as performance goes I'll take the plastic. The only other thing that could change my mind would be if I decide I might like to try a shot of N2O as the aluminum tube can be fitted easier for the NOS. With the NOS heat in the intake tube really isn't an issue as the N2O is super cold. For my ride I will be leaning more toward the performance side rather than looks but you never know.
I just like all the contraversy that this discussion has started. I can assure you though that no matter what I do, I will do it right and will prove once and for all that Performance White is the fastest shade. HEHE

* Axel back exhaust systems = no power increase, some less than factory
* Throttle spacer = no increase
* Throttle body = no increase
* X or H pipe = 50% say 2 or 3 hp, 50% say they do it for the noise
* CAI = some more, some less especially with a K and N filter
* CAI and tunes = some guys say 25,30,35, and even 40 hp increase
* CAI and tunes - some ads say 35 - 50 hp gain
* CAI and tunes = on dyno 15 - 20 hp gain
* Cams = some say 45 - 50hp gain, some (Blue Oval forums) 0 hp gain
And chassis components are as confusing to what works and what doesn't, Ford engineers knew they were going to get beat up for not having an IRS, so they did everything to make the solid axel work as best as they could.
After I finish the bling on my car then I want to mess with the engine and the chassis and I am trying to find what works and what doesn't. With these 2005+ Mustangs it is really hard, they are not like the old Mustang where certain bolt ons add horses.
These cars are really well built and designed well, like the factory exhaust...it has been impossible for the after market to create a system that produces more HP than the factory. When I go after the HP I am going to go after items that show independent dyno test increases or from reputable go fast Mustang people.

I agree with Bobby (Don't get cocky Bob). They did an awesome job with the suspension. BUT, they did it for a nice ride vs. performance mix. Just by lowering my car and putting on the “Big Beefs” dramatically improved the handling. Yes dramatically… However, the ride quality suffered very little if any. As a comparison, I did the same thing on my 96 Cobra. It rode like a floor jack. So yes, I’m a fan of the S197 platform. Not to mention the S197 Mustang won the Grand Am championship last year. They went against Porsche, BMW and Acura, all with independent rears. The Stang was the only car with a live axle. That to me dispels the myth that independent rear handles better than live axles. BTW, independents are STILL (and always will be) superior on rough roads…. Tracks are normally smoooooth.
P.S. I need a quote like Bobby! How's this- "It's not the bolt ons. It's the color of your car." - Paul Haines

God, my head is starting to ache and those voices in head that talk to me are back........
Doug at Bama Chips is getting ready to sell the the Diablo tuner......
How much heat does the tube of the CAI cause to the air as the air flows thru , one would think that the air does not sit around heating up before it goes into the engine, it has to be going thru the tube pretty quick ? You could have an intake made out of pig iron and as fast as the air goes thru I don't know how hotter it would make the air. Science and engineering my friends is more than touching and saying **** that is hot. The engine compartment of our cars are so hot I wonder how certain parts take it and how the electrical parts survive.
I still don't know why I can't put an air scoop on and make it functional to let in cooler air or at least let hot air out........I know, I know...to much pressure under there.
Paul, I would bet your tires could be credited by 85% with the improvement in your handling. The past Ford Mustang engineer that now runs MRT has said a change to gripper tires is the one major improvement in a better handling stang and every other mod to the chassis is small.
Every time I hear "VISTA BLUE" I now blow lunch...
I need to go sit down and talk to Jack Daniel.

Ok.... Who wants to talk about scuba equipment. Anyone?
#309
OK skuba gear it is.
#310
What type of snorkel would you propose for a man that wanted to in the summer time float at the shoreline to find arrowheads?
#311
Actually all kidding aside I have thought about getting scuba certified for a few years now I think it would be fun. What does it cost to get certified and get the propper gear?

underhood dressup kits for a GT 500???
I just picked up a GT500 and I want to dress up under the hood. The car is sick and with bolt on mods, I'm at about 610 RWHP and 650 RWTQ - it's sick! But, it is a show car and I now need to dress it up. Anybody know of any suppliers? I'm in New York - I would appreciate if someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks.

It does count! The good thing is.... It requires a lot less gear.
Badassshelby: Congrats on the GT500. Sounds like a beast. There's tons of parts out there and good info on this forum. Just go to main section and do a search.

Thinking about getting this spring set for the stang, part of my "must look good" performance theme.

24 carat springs. Man, what will they come up with next?
#320
The springs are for real and cost an additional 2000. euros over the cost of the basic springs, ? on euros conversion to dollars.
