Please excuse the quality of the pictures for a while. My digital camera is on it's way back to Olympus for repair. Using the old film camera/scanner combo for a while.

I'm posting this picture because it is a new color. These belong to Krazed. Every now and again someone gets a freebie...LOL! I've found a supplier for Ghost Pearls, Candy Pearls, Custom Flakes, and Chameleon additives for powder. I ordered some Blue Ghost Pearl before I realized there was going to be a Navy blue set of cam covers coming up. Before I shot the clear on Krazed's covers, I added some of the Blue Ghost Pearl. WOW! I didn't go overboard with it but the effect is really cool. This picture doesn't do it justice. Hopefully Krazed will snap a few pictures before or after install.

I got mine earlier today and spent most of the day until now getting them on. My take-offs should be in the mail tomorrow, as it was a bit late to get them shipped out tonight.

I didn't think to take any pics before I put them on, but I will definately take some tomorrow and post them. The ghost pearl was unexpected, but extremely nice. The color actually came out close to the old Ford blue, which is a nice surprise as well. It should make matching the rest of the engine bay extremely easy.

Also, I FINALLY got some pictures taken of my valve covers on. It's been bad weather all week here, so it took me a while to get around to it.

This one's before.

And these are after.

I REALLY love the way they came out. It really brings something special to the engine bay. Now all I need are stainless steel hoses, a plenum cover to match, dozens of chrome accents pieces, and numerous other pieces......

What have I gotten myself into?

I stepped out of line (formerly #31) to do my own cam covers in something that hopefully matched my new plenum cover, and I learned a few things:
1. I must not be as much of a mechanic-type as I had hoped. Could Ford have placed any more wiring as an obstacle to valve cover replacement? The job was much more difficult than I had expected, though it didn't seem as bad once it was over. Yes, it's a cool mod, but you have to work for it.
2. Even paint that says "resistant to scratches and chips", isn't. No matter how careful I was, I damaged the crap out of my new paint job just reinstalling them. This is where powder coating has a major advantage. After doing all the disassembly, cleaning, prep, painting, curing, and reassembly, I figure the deal you guys have going here is pretty sweet, and you're getting a high quality job, too. Stick with it.

Now I'm going to have to paint my plenum cover the match the cam covers, which is no big deal. Does anyone have any great ideas for decals for the cam covers? I saw someone here that had neat ones custom made, but was wondering about the heat. A local sign shop is making some to test for me and putting them on their own race car's valve covers this weekend to see how the material holds up. If it works, I'll have some made for my car on a material that looks like brushed aluminum, and probably re-do the fins and lettering on the plenum cover in the aluminum as well. Any ideas?

Krazed, looks great, really brings the engine bay alive! Thanks for the pics.

Backafter20, I like that color grey, that would look good on a tungsten and alloy car, as well. Thanks for the props on powder coating, scratch resistance was the main reason I went with powder coating.

I love the FRPP cover, great price, and looks good too! I just got mine this week, and my STB. I think it looks good with the good old Reflective Chrome cam covers.

These are a couple of ideas that I had for decals for the valve covers, in a brushed aluminum mylar material. Neither are all that original, copied to an extent from others'. I'd love to see some other ideas/comments. Sign shop said maybe $20 for a pair, made in only one day.

I like it. I think the blue would look great on your car, but I think I would prefer a Competition Orange. And is it just me, or does the L in the 4.6L seem like it is a little narrow?

But I like the idea a lot!

I wasn't planning on mass producing them TinPony, but you are free to use the pattern and take it to your local sign shop. Just make sure you get a material that can handle some heat. I have yet to find out if this will work or not. Yes Hatchman, the L does look narrow, but it is the same font as all of the other text, so I guess that is the way it is supposed to look. And orange...that is the original color of the decal I copied the bottom one from. Wouldn't that stand out in a Sonic blue engine compartment?! You may have an idea! Thanks!

I'm seriously thinking about doing this engine mod. Most of my exterior/interior show mods are done (except that dern $1000 steering wheel). But I'm very concerned about this MAJOR undertaking. I just don't want to screw-up my engine??? Is it really that hard, I'm just normal handy-around-the-house kind of guy, so I think I could do it???

I like the above blue, or the wrinkle blue mustang jack has. And as a side note, I've got the Stange STB, Ford valve cover, and thinking about CAI.......any reassuring thoughts?? And I could send my own without getting "in line" as I have another daily driver.....

Here's a little something I wrote up on an earlier post. I guess everyone's idea of difficulty could be different. First set I did too awhile, but I got a cordless screwdriver and the next set went on in about an hour.

In case anyone was wondering about time and tools to swap them out. I used a little 1/4" socket wrench, an extension, a 7mm(ignition coils), 8mm(cover bolts), and 10mm(air box hold-down bolt) sockets, and a screw driver. I also laid some towels over the fender to protect it from scratching.

First of all, I loosened up all the cam cover bolts, about a dozen on each side. Then I loosened up the 4 bolts holding on the ignition to the cam covers. Had to pop off all the vacuum lines and a couple of electrical connections. Then move all the ignition and other wires out of the way. On the driver's side, I had to remove the intake. Some people removed the battery tray, but I found this unnecessary.

The cam covers came right off, slid forward, up, and out of there. The thick rubber gasket is pretty tough, and reusable. No gasket sealer used by Ford or needed.

I ended up taking the oil neck off of my right side cam cover. The stock oil cap snaps right into its place, same thread pattern, and I think it looks better, though harder to fill without it, but I have several funnels. If you want it off, just let me know, it pops right off, though it's a little difficult.

Took me about 3 hours to swap mine out, but I'm really slow, and take my time, and clean stuff as I go. I'm sure the more mechanically inclined with an electric screwdriver with a socket attatchment could possibly swap them out in 30 minutes. Even less if you have a buddy helping. It's pretty easy though, if you can take out thirty bolts and put them back in, you can do this. Just be careful not to cross thread the bolts putting them back in, and I recommend putting in the bolts on the ends in first.

Hope this helps.
