Bold Moves Tab!
Hey Paul... just spoke to the Bob hurley service department and he also said it should be fine... he said going down in oil he would worry about... I told him I dont Grandma the car I play with it and he said again I should be fine.
It should be fine. You'll only loose about 1.5 seconds in the quarter.
Very funny Paul
Here is one of the responses I got on Modularfords when I posed the Question.
Killero6GT
Theirs hardly any difference between a 5w20 and a 5w30. I use 5w30 as thats what my tuner told me would be best with my blower. Now if they put in like a 15w40 in cold weather you would have some problems, but thats completly them Fing up. Youll be fine with this oil

You should be fine but I would change that back to the called out 5/20 come sept or oct when the weather gets cooler....
I know I was just joshing you. You'll only lose around 1.25 seconds.
I'm guessing here... but i would say it's due to the heat build up. Same thing with a turbo.
The heat is part of it, especially during the summer.....Ford recommends 15w - 50 for the Shelby's year round.......Roush says " the factory recommends 5w - 20" which is more a legal answer from Roush. On the Mobil 1 web site they recommend their 0w - 40 for turbo and sc cars . Most experienced SC mechanics will recommend a thicker oil. But how thick ?
I'm running straight axle grease...
Here's a article on the net about oil"
"Oil viscosity--or more commonly, "weight"--is an important fluid characteristic that needs to match up with a particular engine's physical needs. Let's just say that the controlling factor in oil viscosity selection is how the engine's bearing clearances have been established."
To me the heat issue is secondary to the fact that the engine is under much more stress thus it needs a thicker oil for lubrication...IMHO
I do think synthetic oil would be better in supercharged engines!!!
Time to head out for my weekend trip... Hope you guys have a good Tech Day, David hope that car of yours is ready to rumble today and Jeff hope it goes well at the track!!! See you guys in a few days!!!
Have a safe trip Chris!
Have fun Chris. We'll be here so look for us when you get back...
WEll when I spoke to the ford tech he said weight is weight... 5W-20 is the same "weight or thickness" as 5W-30. They are both 5W but on gives the protection of a 20 and one a 30? Am I explaining this right or am i confusing myself?

thats a 30pack!!! oh and a 40ounce
