Ram Air problem

I just moved to Tulsa 3 weeks ago and shortly thereafter put a ram ait\r hood on my 06 gt. My engine has been stalling since.

Tosay I was at Bob Hurley and met Lance and Randy. I told randy about the problem and he said the club had a truobleshoot night where member swould bring their cars and problems and get guidance from others but there was no permanent post in this thread about when that was, much less regulat meetings etc. A few months ago I was looking up Oklahoma groups and saw they met Bold Moves met at a a hamburger place weekly, but randy said he thought they no longer did that.

So while I am waiting for randy to get me an application fromk Paul at teh board meeting on wed., I would appreciate any advice on my problem. I ran my SCT and it had two error codes ( I dont have them with me)M but they both read "running too lean". The second code had a number 2 after the message.

I posted to modular fords and there I was told it was the air blowing over the MAF sensor giving a faulty reading and I should cover the sensor with some foam to diffuse the air, I haven't determined what type of foam, so haven't done that yet, in the mean time I am open to any other sugestions. Lance thought I could bypass the maf sensor with my sct but he didnt know how. Any ideas on that?
I will pay up shortly and support the club the best I can; until then I would appreicate some guidance. My other vehicle is a 75 blazer and not a good backup veh.

thanks
ed

Hey Ed... Good talking with you today. I hope I was able to help. For now I would retrn it back to stock and reinstall the stock airbox. Doug at BamamChips should be able to help from there.

Please send me an email at the club Email listed in my signature below. i 'l get you on the list of all the club events.

+1 on Doug at bamachips.... Doug can walk you through this one... he most likely can adjust some of the tables to correct this issue. I havent had any experience with the ram air hood to determine if that would be the problem. Modularfords.com is in my opinion the most knowledgeable of sites... they told you to use foam??

Ed, First let me say welcome! As for your problem......Which CAI are you running? Which tunes do you run? Have you done any other mods such as delete plates, Off road exhaust etc. that could be affecting the AF ratio. Has this code always been happening, or is it somthing that has happened recently? If recent, have you changed anything or added mods before the code started? If you can give a little info and I bet we can get that pesky code to go away. Oh and Bamachips or Brenspeed are both very reputable tuners (not local) that can help you out. I have Brenspeed tunes and my car runs like a raped ape.

Just noticed you mentioned the addition of the ram air hood. New question. Does it stall at idle or after you get moving? It is possible that the air is hitting the filter too hard and causing the flow to be disrupted across the MAF sensor. The foam that was mentioned on Modular fords was more than likely a foam sock to cover your air filter to smooth out the air flow.

Which tunes do you run?

87 gas and 4.11 gears.

Have you done any other mods such as delete plates, Off road exhaust etc. that could be affecting the AF ratio.
Has this code always been happening, or is it somthing that has happened recently?

No it was running great until I put on the ram air hood.

If you can give a little info and I bet we can get that pesky code to go away. Oh and Bamachips or Brenspeed are both very reputable tuners (not local) that can help you out. I have Brenspeed tunes and my car runs like a raped ape.

at idle. never when hitting the gas.

It is possible that the air is hitting the filter too hard and causing the flow to be disrupted across the MAF sensor. The foam that was mentioned on Modular fords was more than likely a foam sock to cover your air filter to smooth out the air flow.
I am trying to link to the modularfords post for the previous poster above, but I am at Panera's ( I am having a house built and have no internet in the mean time). and the connection here is horrible.

it didnt sound to me like a filter sock, but that makes more sense than what they wrote (more sense to me anyway). I will post it
thanks

Hmmm...... Very strange issue indeed. Any chance you could have over oiled your air filter. Assuming that it is a clean and re-oil type? I have heard that it is possible to draw excess oil into the MAF meter element causing malfunction.

Here are some of the suggestions comming from modularfords.com

"The problem is when air current "blows" across the MAF meter and gives it a false reading. Then your computer adjusts for it and makes your car stall out when coming to a stop. Try diffusing the air coming through your ram air outlet with a piece of expanded foam pre filter element or even a coarse foam pond filter. This will allow the cold air to the airbox but keep it from blowing across the filter. "

"You don't need a re-tune the MAF accounts for any additional air flow. The problem is as Cali HP indicated, turbulent air is flowing across the MAF causing an irratic signal. " (This is kevin at PMP motorsports)

I am curious to see how the air is getting so turbulant near the MAF.... I understand you are getting added air flow...but the turbulance and how it is affecting things is puzzling.
