Not really, its more of a family thing. I went in and his mom was running the counter as usual, her and his deceased dad were the driving force behind the joint, his grandfather started it years before that. They've been cooking food (with bbq the main thing) for 60+ years, my dad used to eat there when he was a kid, I've been eating there since I was old enough to walk, his mom still remembers me as a toddler. Much of the family went to school with my family and grew up together. Now him, his brother, two sisters, their mom (who is pushing 80 now and sharp as a tack) and their kids still run the joint and work there. Same quality as always. Open at 6 am for breakfast, with everything fresh and homemade, local sausage, bacon, ham etc. old fashioned gravy and biscuits, etc., lunch every day with fresh vegetables, fried chicken, meat loaf, etc. and a full menu in the evenings, bbq pork, brisket, ribs, chicken, huge hand patted burgers from local beef, ribeyes, basically anything you want. Hell, it doesn't even have to be on the menu, they'll fix you what ever you want.

And for a reasonable price. Huge piece of country ham, fresh made sausage, bacon or tenderloin with 2 eggs, biscuits and gravy for 5 bucks. Meat (fried chicken, meatloaf, bbq, ham, etc.Z) and 3 veggies with corn bread or rolls and tea for 6 dollars at lunch .

Massive hand patted burger for 3.50, BBQ plate with fries, tater tots, baked potato, or potato salad, with slaw and baked beans for $8. And its more than I can eat, I order a child's plate which is a little smaller
and still plenty for me for about $6.

Its just nice to have a place where they know who I am when I call in an order, no matter who answers, as soon as I say "I need to place an order" they say "oh, hey Lee". And everyone there knows me (the family members for sure, always come talk to me when I come in) and I'd say they know most of the customers by name (at least 70% of the people in there). I still see the same people in there that I've seen in there for decades when I go, there's people that eat in there 3 meals a day. The local cops flood the place, doesn't matter if its 6 in the morning, 12 noon, or 8 at night, there will be multiple cop cars there eating. Now I see the kids that I saw in there years ago, grown up with their wives and small kids eating there.

They're doing it right.

Anyway, I went back into the kitchen to talk to my buddy (I'm closest to him out of all the brothers and sisters) and we always have a joke for each other, they were covered up, people lined up out the door waiting outside for a table and when I walked into the kitchen he said "what's up baller?" and laughed.

I couldn't help but think of you and this.
