Let me know what the Austin guys say if you would. The Houston dealerships are all "Huh? Retrofit? What's that?" and when I explain it to them they look at me like I've grown another head. Then they ask for the part numbers they'd need and, "We'll see if it's possible." Not comforting.
Here is my (positive) experience at Leif Johnson Ford here in Austin.

I first ordered the cluster and switch assembly. I told Jeremy in parts what I wanted to do, and he pecked around on his computer screen and was able to specify the right cluster for me. Note this was for my 2006 Mustang GT. He did end up calling the cluster center during the process.

The charge, not including tax, was 47.62 for the switch, and 281.29 for the cluster. He charged a core charge of $100 (which later he told me should have been $380).

The parts took about 2 or 3 weeks to come in (ordered just before Christmas, so that probably slowed things down).

Initially, the service department told me that the "Accessories Department" handled the installation, so I set up an appointment for them to do the work, and took it in. Later in the day, I received a call from them saying they were wrong, that the service department had to do the work, so that's what happened. The service department did the work, and honored the price quoted by the Accessories department (4 hours at $65/hour for a total of $260). By the way, they said they normally charge $350 or $400.

I then took the old cluster back to the parts dept and got my $100 core charge refunded.

So everything went well, and all the folks I dealt with were really nice. I really like the msg center and my color, plus the extra 2 gauges, so I am glad I did this. Since I am in the minority I guess, and don't really like the silver/aluminum look of the IUP package, the price and effort was definitely worth it to get the instruments I wanted without changing the looks of the dash so much (which I happen to like).

And again, this WAS an '06 model.

My best advice is to take a copy of the instructions at the beginning of this thread and show it to them if they have questions.

Thanks again Kevin.

Hey Kevin,

Quick question. What needs to be downloaded from the old cluster? If vin# and mileage is given to Cluster Center and it arrives at the dealership with the same mileage as your old cluster, cant you just swap out the cluster and give your cluster back to the parts department for the core refund. There is no information in the cluster. Did you actually see your techs plug something into the cluster? I did the swap today. The parts guy had no idea about downloading anything either. He just wanted to verify the mileage. I did the swap in the dealership parking lot. It was 40 miles less than the new one. No problems yet. Started right up, all buttons worked. Parts guy said that he would hold my old cluster until Monday just in case something goes awry and I need it for something.

BTW. I got the cluster for $211 and the switch for $40. $300 core charge. I made out pretty good if there are no problems. $251, and 10 minutes of my time. (Techs told me at least 3 hours)

Thanks Kevin.

It was a easy swap. Took all of 10 minutes!. I still dont see the need for downloading info. You're the pro, but I don't think the cluster holds any info. I don't really know how to explain it, but the instrument panel is an inert panel that just relays the computer's readings in a visual manner for the average person to view. The cluster doesn't do anything on its own. The only thing that needs to be done is to program the starting point of the mileage counter.

Just my .02

Thanks for all the help. I would not have even thought of doing it without all your help and advise in this forum.

I do Remember one member having a cluster installed without downloading and it had a buzzer come on at 80 mph. Sounded like a reverse alarm.

I thought so also, but like Kevin stated, you will eventually get error codes. Mine started to beep when backing up. (I thought I was in a semi.) You will also get a constant beep if you ever go over 80 mph.

It is definitely an easy install, but they lure you in with the computer stuff. They kept my car for 2 hours. (1.5 hours too long). It cost me $142 for the dealer to swap out clusters. I installed switches nd removed the bezel and only left 2 screws holding the old cluster.

You may also find the the one repair rep that deals with the mustangs or SE's. Tell him/her what you want to do and print out the pdf files that Kevin linked to his origal post.

I hope this helps.

Can the origianl links be repaired in post #1? I've read this whole thread several times and have already confirmed that my 06 Pony V6 has the harness behind the fake buttons.

I just picked up a used cluster and switch assy. The car had slightly lower miles than mine so I'm ok there. So, now what? I can get 7 second Don Burton to hook me up at the dealer with the WDS. Any suggestions? I see I'm like the first guy here with a used cluster. I do have the harness behind the dash.

Hi all, first post.

ANybody had any luck installing mycolor on a 07 GT? Any chances of getting a cluster with a complete harness, if you dont have the harness plugged into the dummy plate? Got my car shipped down from 2 states north of here, dealer said it had mycolor gauges and when I got the car it didnt. So im trying to get the **** dealer to pay for the install. replies are appreciated.

It would Require a complete Dash Harness if you do not have the Dummy Plug. and I would not suggest it even if the Dealer would pay for it. I would ask for what you want which is a car with my color. Step away from the deal! Or get some Cash Back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Luck!

Is My Car MyColor Ready!? : - )

I pulled the tab off of the spot where the buttons for the gauges should be. And there is a wire harness attached to the blank dummy buttons. Does this mean I am all set for the MyColor gauges!? I hope so. I really want them. Thanks for all replies.
