MY COLOR RETROFIT INSTRUCTIONS {THE FIRST} MY COLOR 2005-2009 S-197 Gen 1
Ok, I am very interested in this conversion. I have a v6, and have to ask all the v6 people who have had this done, did you get the six gauge cluster? If so did any additional wiring harness or oil pressure sensor have to be added for the gauges to work? My current cluster is just speed tach temp and fuel. The batt would just be a wire hopefully the same as the idoit light, oil pressure though I would think would need a different sensor. Or did you have to go with only the four gauge cluster like what is in there now? Please I hope Im overthinking this so I really need input from fellow sixers who have had this completed. Thanks in advance for your help

The v6 Conversion is the Same as the Gt. If you have the Conector as shown in Post one you are good to go. Read Post one carefully and Completely it should answer your Questions.

I don't think you will be able to use the switches for any thing else except for what they were designed for. They are not really switches for somrthing you want to turn on/off.I just got the assembly from Kevin yesterday for that purpose and unless you are an electrical engineer I don't think you will be able to make them work.Only 4 pins on the back of the assembly and as near as I cn tell 3 of them are used for power, 2 for +12 and one ground. That leaves one pin to be used by the 3 push buttons on the front panel.I stared at it for hours today and I can't see how it would function for any thing except the message center, don't even know how that works but it must.
Kevin,
I went to the ford parts web and the cluster I see the 4 guages cluster for $281.00 but nothing on the 6 guage cluster and no part number. I used this part # 5R3Z-10849GB for the 6 guage cluster and I get part not found. Do you have another part number for the 6 guage cluster? The number for the switch assembly #4R3Z-10D889-AAA this is a good number for $37.00. What am I doing wrong on the 6 guage cluster part number?

I finally found a dealership willing to do the IUP Upgrade on my Stang. It's gonna cost about $500 for parts and labor. I did find the Plug needed behind the pop off pieces next to the power plug. I sent them my VIN# and they emailed back the part # for the cluster. I'd already sent the instructions as Kevin had in post #1. I did have the correct switch assembly # for them, too. Haven't scheduled this yet as I'll have to leave the car for a day, and this dealership is an hour drive from us. Will be soon, though.

BUMP - This is good stuff!
I've purchased a used MyColor panel but now need the switch - hopefully I have the wiring for it - my car has a MFGR date of 12/04 so maybe!!
I was hoping to do the upgrade without having to involve the dealer, but it looks like the dealer will have to reprogram the whole nine yards. True?
Thanks!

Hi KC,
Kudos on the thread and many of your other posts that I have followed on this board...
The donor was equipped identically to my car with the exception of my car not being equipped with MyColor.
Do you think the chances are good that I will not have to re-program anything?
Is there any chance I could actually cause harm?
If so - to what?
For what it may be worth -
I am relatively highly experienced in automotive technology and have done a significant amount of ECU programming (actually writing code) on GM platforms and Victory Motorcycles. I know how to take proper precautions..
Also - I found it rather surprizing that the odometer mileage is stored in the head unit of the speedometer.

I do not {BELIEVE} it will cause a Problem. But you will be the First to attempt it. The odometer Mileage may be a Factor.
Good Luck!

Hmmm... I just found out that the car had 15k on it and mine only has 6k on it. Can the dealership re-program the mileage to be the same as what's on my car now?
If not - can I just buy a new Speedometer head?
Thanks KC!

You Might as Well Let the Dealer Try To DOWNLOAD your Old Mileage and do the Install or Try it and Then Remove it untill you are at 15k.

It's times like this that I wish I had a good working relationship with a local dealer... (I bought my car used about 400 miles from here)..
I'll give one of the locals a shot and see what they say.
Thanks Kevin!
WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FORD MAY BE DELETING THE WIRING FOR THE MYCOLOR SWITCH ON THE MUSTANGS! PULL YOUR BLOCK OFF PLATE AND CHECK FOR WIRING PLUGGED INTO DUMMY BEZEL BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS! 04/19/05 IT IS POSSIBLE IT IS TUCKED OR TAPED INTO LOOM BUT YOU WILL NEED TO VERIFY IT'S THERE FOR A SUCCESSFULL CONVERSION.
[attachmentid=18588]
I sent a Parts Inquiry to ford today to check on the Plug issue 06/21/05 It seems a Subharness used on very Basic equipped Stangs may be left out simply as a cost cutting tool. So You need to check your wiring plug before attempting the IUP Message center upgrade. The Harness cannot be purchased separately. 08/03/05
If you do not have Traction Control you Most Likely do not have the IUP PLUG!

YES! I believe it would work. The My Color Wiring runs to the Cluster on the Left and to the SJB Box on the right. It would be best to remove the entire harness from the donor just in case.
