I thought it was unAmerican that the system is set up to have to work for the man for 40 years until you were 65 - like my Dad - so that you can retire for a few years after you're getting old. That's not freedom. And right after my Dad retires so he can finally do those little trips with my Mom and enjoy themselves (bought his first brand new car finally), she gets cancer and dies a miserable death at 64. Never got to draw a dime of SS back from her taxes. He rides out his 'freedom' in retirement years alone. That's messed up. Left a huge impression on me. "Work hard to get ahead, stop and smell the roses along the way..."
Dad would always have to split vacations around a family one or big projects on the house, and then another for a week hunting and fishing with me. Then go back and slave for the man for the rest of the year. He never did have his life his own. Not even as a kid during the Depression.
From seeing that unfold before my eyes, I wanted to own my life. So I worked my butt off to counter the system. 'Beat the system with its own game' was the plan. I never hit it big like I wanted to but I invested off-work time learning money/debt management, investing, inflation & taxes, insurance to protect my dream. "The Power of Money Dynamics" was a great book, combined with a TI compound interest calculator, and I was off and running. I already knew all those frugal Depression tricks from my parents. I kept my goal of semi-dropping out of society's stupid game and finding a homestead in the mountains where I could enjoy each day as I chose. Focused on those goals, made a plan, stuck to the plan and pushed ahead even though many times it looked like no way possible.
Amazing how sheer determination, laser focus on the goal & plan, tenacious 'never give up on your dreams', and the ability to outwork those around you, brings results. Even though in an unconventional way. But as Andrew Carnegie and all those guys taught us in "Think and Grow Rich", the sub-conscious mind delivers what the conscious mind focuses on.
Sorry for the long post. Feel like yackin this morning. And starting today its going to get hectic around here for a week or so. This is relaxing for me as I sip coffee before things get crazy.

Just spent a few hours getting my ribs tattooed, just the outline so far. When people say the ribs hurt they aren't lying, probably one of the most painful spots I've had done!

And to let you guys know, I'm officially a redneck now. I've got a "warshin' marchine" sitting in my front porch. It died a few days ago, now I've got to decide what to do. So far I've decided to repaint the laundry room, put down new flooring (tile) get a new "warshin' machine, dryer, and a new "hot water heater" (Gary should like that) since its in there too and its getting some age on it. I'd hate to replace everything and have the "hot water heater" bust a few months later.
I remember a girl doing a report on it in high school. Don't think I could watch it.

A Man Just Needs Some....
So I'm working on my weekend off. No real bosses. Hardly anything to do. Almost $70/hr.
There's a small part of me that would almost feel guilty but I don't take their money, somebody else would. These really good days at work make up for the bad ones.
