Ford to discontinue V8

lol Rest assured I'm not gay. I understand that to a certain extent women are attracted to the whole bad boy personality. Then they get involved with said bad boy and it always goes wrong because "bad boy" is just another way of saying "jerk" and more often than not it's just an act anyway. Trust me Al, what they want is confidence, intelligence and physically fit, not bad boy, jerkweed, beer swilling party animal with a frat boy mentality. That gets old really fast.

Its funny we got on the Bandit references and women, as my wife (highly educated who met me when she was 17 and I had my foxbody 5.0's), says she now understands where I get some of my interesting humor towards her/women...
Its all because of shows I grew up watching like:
-Smokey & The Bandit (Frog/Sally Fields)
-Dukes of Hazzard (Daisy)
-Fall Guy (nice blonde gal)
-Chips (Ponch had many a girl & a T/A)
-Stroker Ace (Lonnie Anderson)
-Six Pack
-Knight Rider (Michael always had some girlie he was saving)
Now was it my charm she first noticed, or the huge smokey V8 burnout I would do going up and down her street?? Would any of those characters been as cool buzzing around in a 4cyl/V6?
The V8 is an impact tool that gets heads to turn and notice. The sight, sounds, and smells!
I'm not that charming of a guy, so I blame my 5.0 V8!!
Darn V8 Mustangs and turning my world upside down!!

Sure, V8's are great for getting girls. So long as you want to date high school girls the rest of your life lmao.
Now don't get me wrong. We all know the ladies like a nice car. But the notion that what they really want is to watch you burn 10K miles worth of rubber off your back tires in a parking lot is not really the case for the most part.
By the way Turbo, you forgot Bonnie on Chips. She was hot. Also Ponch and John spent the entire series "buzzing around on a 4 cyl". What you thought those Kawasaki bikes were V8s? lol

Your right... I forgot about Bonnie!
But just think how cool Ponch n John would have looked in pursuit on a one lunger?
Those 4cyl Kawi's were the V8's of motorcycles back in the day!
Man the good ol days of TV!

It's TV. It's not real life. In real life you can't be a TV character. You're just stuck with who you really are so the best bet is to make who you really are worth a crap. Otherwise you'll just be a jerk with a cool car. There's plenty of those running around.
By the way, you also forgot the two chicks in the Lamborghini in Cannonball Run.

Oh sorry man. I'm in Madison County, AL. Huntsville AL area. Population is just over 300K. We have a lot of technology based industry here and the Marshall Space Flight center. It's a pretty nice place to live. Cost of living isn't bad. There are three colleges and a couple of good technical schools and as a plus the winters are no where near Pittsburgh bad lol
As for the winters we get up here in the Burgh ? For the most part, it usually just gets really cold, but we don't really get nearly as much snow like for example Buffalo, New York does, which btw: I'm originally from so our winters in comparison are really mild, but the cold temps still really suck never the less..
But from everything you've described about Huntsville, it does seem like a very interesting and nice place to live

Ahhh ! That explains everything lol. So is it true that good ole southern hospitality still exists ? As I've always been curious about all those stories I heard that southern women really know how to please their men lol.

Sure I get that. Crockett wouldn't have been as cool without the Ferrari. It's TV. It's not real life. In real life you can't be a TV character. Oh man, I'm so glad the world just breaks down into an either / or like that. I was worried about that.
Oh wait, it doesn't. Not even remotely so. lol Good try though I got a laugh out of that one.

Don't really know how we went this far off but it's really not about the chicks. When you're 20, it damm sure better be. I'm willing to bet a lot of guys here met their wives and first date picked them up in their V8 sports car. I first met my wife and mother of my children (yes same gal) in my bright red 89 T-top TA. Yes she loved cruising around in it with me too. People get older and things change. Most of us aren't chasing tail like a 20 year old anymore but that feeling we had way back when we would cruise that obnoxious mustang or Camaro looking for girls and races can still be felt. The sound, the feel, the adrenaline when you mash on the go pedal. Yeah you are instantly that punk kid again. Something that V6 and Ecoboost will just never do for me. Either you're a gear head and love American muscle or you're just some guy that bought a mustang because the specs seemed logical and it's a neat looking little car. Lol

As an example, in 1987 and 1988 the best selling car in America was the Ford Escort. Furthermore of the top ten best selling cars in America in 1988 only the Grand Am was available in coupe configuration and it was number 10. Most Grand Ams that sold were 4 door. There was not a Mustang or Camaro anywhere on the list. Then, just as now, most people bought grocery getting commuter cars. By mathematical fact, most guys back then who took their wives on the their first date did not do so in some V8 sports coupe. It's just a bit of nostalgia that never happened.

Now me personally, a part of my life will always be hot rods. I was raised playing in an auto shop by mechanic uncles who were grease monkey gear head animals. Those guys helped mold the animal I eventually became. Lol. I worked as a mechanic for about 15 years myself also. Part of me will always need some type of hot rod in the garage as a weekend toy. But I'm just a gear head animal who happens to really like himself.

The point being that people do not buy Mustangs for "either" this reason "or" that reason and for no other reason. The reasons are as varied and numerous as there are Mustangs on the road.

Don't buy into that fantasy lassered. lol I lived through the years in question and it was nothing like Al describes. The majority of people were not out "acting the punk kid" as it were in their V8 this or that. Yes there were a lot more 2 door coupes on the road during the 80's and 90's. No they were by no means the majority of cars on the road. Most guys did not take their wives on their first date in a V8 sports coupe. That's just more TV land fantasy disco BS. Oh yes it definitely happened and is still going on down here just maybe not as much since you can't text and drive.
I understand you now, you sucked way into your 20's until priorities changed and maturity set in. It's ok. It's not your fault.

People who show up here at TMS usually do. I'm sure there's a great mustang buyers club forum somewhere online. The only other people who show up here broke something and just need free technical advise. Lol
#537
Well most of my friends and I sure as hell did. Sorry you grew up in Lameville where nobody owned cool cars. Down here every weekend was like a car show cruise night. Hot rods, low riders, 4 wheel drives, all cleaned up and decked out. And yes the girls were looking. Lol

Now on the technical advise side of the house there is no doubt in my mind that you are a wealth of good and helpful knowledge.

I got a bunch of buddies who went overseas. Bought hot rods when they got home. They're not even close to as sensitive as you either. You made a choice and I commend you for it. You were fighting for our freedom so I could street race, ***** around, and smoke weed. Thanks a lot man.
