Golden Circle does not have the tool to check pinion angle. They send in another hotline request, & I spoke to the tech. He does not think that there's anything else they can check without actually doing the ring and pinion, so he's going to look into ordering one and they're supposed to get back with me tomorrow to let me know the result.

Something I almost forgot to add...

Ford engineers said the vibration was within normal range. The tech looked at me and said that he thought that was crazy, because he wouldn't drive the vehicle the way it's vibrating. But the engineer tried to tell him that it was normal.

For the life of me I can't figure it out. Are they trying to cover this up?

I think either they don't know what to do to fix it or they know the issue is with the axle housing and they don't have them any more since they shut down the production of these axles early last year or 2013. That or they are like insurance companies deny deny deny

Yep they all keep the housing. I'm thinking of getting a stock pulled one.

What is a "stock pulled one"? If it is what I suspect how do you know it does not have the same problem?

The 3.73s are perfect for keeping the engine in the power band. That is the lousy part of changing the ratio. Did you say Ford has stopped making the 8.8's?

The 2015 mustangs have independent rear suspension. Ours are the last of the live axles. The ones for the trucks are different

Assuming the housing is the problem, why would you not just swap in 3.73's?

My experience with rear axle problems was with another manufacturer's product. The dealer was very aggressive in trying to resolve them, several major parts replaced, readjusted. Eventually the technicians tired of all the frustrating attempts, and changed the whole rear axle. Jacked up a new car and my year-old car and transplanted everything, wheel-to-wheel. It was the perfect solution, and didn't take all that long.

I don't know if the next purchaser of my rear axle had or noticed the problems, or if the manufacturer knew what the dealer did to solve them. Someone probably would have had some difficulty buying parts for the one I left behind. Numbers from 1970 to 1971 parts were different.

Just talked with Russell Barnett in tullahoma. The parts are all in and she is on the rack being torn down. He is taking his time and getting all before and after measurements on everything to try and pinpoint where the issue is so they know.

Good. Please let me know what they find.

FWIW, the vibration is now much less pronounced. I think I understand why the engineers were having problems diagnosing. The rear view mirror no longer rattles, and the speed range is now from about 50 to just under 70. 75 is smooths out. Whatever is in the back glass rattling is still there, however.

Calling Golden Circle to see the status of the parts.

Yeah. I picked it up on Friday. There was nothing more they could do besides open up the dif and replace the ring and pinion. They ordered the ring and pinion and figured they would look at everything when they did that.
