Just a matter of time before Ford closes the door on the VCMs as well.

I doubt it. They try to make changes, and increase security. However, anything can be reversed engineered.

When the original VCM was cloned, Rotunda tried to increase proprietary technology. However, this has slacked off since the release of the VCM II.

The reason for this is that the VCM II uses a publicly published communications protocol. So there is really no reverse engineering needed, just build a device that adheres to the J-Protocol with a driver that IDS understands. Easy to do really.

I can't see it from work. Did Ford post anything, or just stiff us?

Probably just stiffed us.

However... I can understand why they have done it. Eh, hopefully something will change.

They don't need a special cluster. On the early build cars, the track key gets added on to the ford Procal instead of an actual key

I don't think that sounds right. I think people are spreading wrong information..I just got my core back and talked to the guy at silverstate ford. He says there is no problem getting the core back. He processes the order as an upgrade.

He has been doing it for a while....Apparently there is a Harley F150 cluster that people wanted...So ford allowed people to do upgrades he told me...Mike is an internet parts sales manager.

That is a closed FB group. How did Ford get wind of all that?

Wasn't Ford monitoring this thread already? I have seen them specifically looking at Matt's profile, when we were at page 50 or so.

That is a FB post I started a long time ago and some of the responses as of late, I think are misinformation. I have never heard or seen anything from Ford on that post. One guy on there claims to have "seen" some bulletins for dealers & clusters but who knows. The post did blow up and I was getting messaged out the wazoo on where and how I got my cluster. I got a full refund from AutoNation and have helped two other people complete the mod as well and they got their core charge back.

If anyone has ANY common sense, if you call a dealer and tell them up front that you want to send a base cluster back as a core for a LCD cluster, what do you think they are going to say??

My relationship with Ford is complicated. I'm going to continue to contribute to the community, provide mods, and very soon open up our cars to makers. OpenXC is crappy imo.

EDIT: I'm going to remove that.... lol

FYI ..

Just out of curiosity I ENABLED TRACK KEY in my ICM using IDS ... My Cluster flashed and blinked during the enablement and IDS does show TRACK KEY Enabled in my Cluster.

I don't plan on purchasing a Track Key .. but if anyone is interesting in trying to add it to your 2013 this may be a way to do it.

Not sure why FORD only supports late build 2014.

I thought it was late build 2014 cars get the "key" similar to the Boss and 2013/early build 2014 cars use the ProCal tuner

I see no reason why the 2013 shouldn't be able to support it. Or even the 2012 for that matter.

Track key, hmm.

By the way, Blackcat Custom now has guage faces to replace the stock ones if you are looking for a different font. They can also do custom work.
