I also recall having it call up the back-up configuration (or whatever it stated to that effect) when it prompted me to do so.

IDS kept prompting me to PMI the PCM. I finally relented and tried that. It then began to PMI the PCM. That's when I cancelled it because I didn't want to screw with the PCM. When we started a session, it just kept going back to that PMI. I didn't use critical Alt delete. I just unplugged the VCM from the computer to prevent it as there was no way to cancel the process or to go back.

Other than DTCs, how else do I check to see the VIN in the PCM?

I think I found something .... Here are some PCM AS-BUILTS ...

MY 2012 Manual:
<NODEID>7E0<F111>BR3A-12B684-AC </F111><F113>CR3A-12A650-ACC </F113> <F188>CR3A-14C204-ACC </F188> </NODEID>

2013 Manual from an early build .. car number 1313 off the line
<NODEID>7E0<F111>DR3A-12B684-BA </F111><F113>DR3A-12A650-ABC </F113> <F188>DR3A-14C204-ABC </F188> </NODEID>

Here is the 2013 Automatic you used to do your PMI

<NODEID>7E0<F111>BR3A-12B684-CC </F111><F113>DR3A-12A650-ND </F113> <F188>DR3A-14C204-ND </F188> </NODEID><NODEID>720<F111>DR33-14F094-BA </F1

The first field I believe is the actually ECM part number if you google that 12B684 ... So it looks like 2013 Mustangs used the same ECM as 2012 if its an automatic. However .. The Manual transmission ECM is completely different part # (goes from BR3A to DR3A) so the Calibration won't load.

We can test the theory by you doing another PMI to the PCM and using the normal menus .. if it works .. then it looks like only automatic ECM's can be changed.

Tomorrow I will try editing and forcing a load by editing the AS-BUILT file ... but not sure if that will work.

I'm scared to try again in case something gets messed up.

When I did purposely try to go in and do a PMI on the PCM, it would not let me, though, just as it isn't for you now. It was only when trying the ACM that this happened. My final attempt at programming the ACM was through the manual entry instead of the new session.

So the first time you tried to do a PCM PMI .. you got the error about the parts mismatch and it showed two different PCM part numbers? Back to the drawing board I guess ...

I don't remember if it gave the part number mismatch, but it did say there was a matching error and to do a PMI and blah blah.

With the ACM, it said there was a problem with the VIN and to do a PMI on the PCM.

As I said, the last thing I did was try to enter the as built manually for the ACM, and then I aborted that. When I went back in and tried to do PMI on it again after aborting I accepted the prompt for the PMI on the PCM. I also said yes to getting the back-up configuration, or something to that effect.

Hi All,

could it be that my issue with the ABS module (incompatible Software) due to the fact that i did not have the 2013 cluster installed? Does the ABS talk to the cluster first during initialization and did not get the correct sequence from the cluster back?

I am currently trying to get a 2013 cluster, maybe Matt and Dan can guide me through again...

I also got the blank PCM message, but that i think was due to the fact that i have a 2010 PCM (it always asked me to do a PCM PMI, but i declined as it may brick my 2010 PCM)....

Once i am back i will check/try/work on that topic again....

Jim .. is your VIN now correct in the ACM when you check the INFO button? perhaps the key to the puzzle is to get the ACM and PCM vin out of sync first.

I'll go look, but I don't think so. Still getting the DTC claiming that the ACM is not communicating with the PCM or cluster.

Jim .. can you send me your VIN again? I want to check your PCM AS-Built as compared to the -ND PCM As-Built .

I know you don't want to mess with it but it would be nice to see if you get the PCM part number mismatch if you try to do a PMI again ...

I am thinking its an AUTO vs Manual PCM thing ...

Here you can see in 2013 Model Year Auto and Manual use DIFFERENT PCM Hardware ...

BR3A vs. DR3A

Most Recent Software Part Number for MY13 MUSTANG, 5.0L

Part Number Module Catchword Hardware Type
DR3A-ABE PCM BLV4 DR3A-12B684-BA
DR3A-ACE PCM KWC4 DR3A-12B684-BA

So it makes sense the Jim was able to reflash a 2012 to a 2013 since his is and automatic and its the same hardware ...

Jim can verify this if he attempts another PMI ...

Or . .what I can try is to flash my PCM as a 2013 AutoMatic car and see if that works.

What I don't understand .. is I cannot even get IDS to reflash my PCM ... The only thing I can get IDS to do is reload a calibration. I cannot get IDS to see my PCM as blank. I get the messages that say its blank ... but then IDS figures out it isn't and just loads a calibration.

And this calibration that loads isn't for a 13? Could it be that is what I did?

Your running a 2013 calibration and firmware for sure. All I can do is reload my factory calibration. Can't do a reflash either. Maybe I should see if I can load Boss firmware like ajpturbo did.

Bust. I can now go in and PMI the PCM, but can't get Dan to do it.

MUST have something to do with my ACM and the VIN mismatch. Ironic that Dan can program his ACM no problem, but can't do the PCM. Reverse of my issues.
