I'm curious to see if these tires will help 1/4 mile times?????

Well, I had to go out to the store and I brought back some not so clear pictures from a well lit service station. Tomorrow you will get the real deal.

I was joy riding with my new tires earlier and went and stopped at my dealership. I saw a great looking black gt, only problems with it were the cloth interior with the ugly print and the brushed aluminum . I'm sorry but the brushed aluminum on the steering wheel is going to get scratched by the snaps on my leather jacket or by my belt buckle or something. Just looks cheap. The outside color, black made me miss my 03 GT Vert (black) just a little. It looks mean. Have fun keeping it clean.

Can someone enlighten me? The wider tires definitely look better, but I'm ignorant on the subject, and have seen many posts from people talking about 18", wider tires, too much wheel well.

What tires fit what? How does a wider tire fit on the stock wheel - - aren't there limits?

How about clearance on the bfg's...Do these tires change the wheel well clearance? Any idea how much gas mileage changes with wider tires?

Thanks, in advance.l

If the 255's look noticeably wider than the stock 235's (38special- please post some pics showing the width) then I will be satisfied with 255's all around. I'm still upset this car didn't come on 255's... at least the GT. I'll never get over that one.
They'll be about 3/4" wider.
Noticable? I wouldn't think to, but compare the stock 245's on the 99+ and the 235's on the 05.
I can tell a difference so going from 235 to 255 should look REAL good.
One of my first mods will be 255/45/18's. Just too much sidewall on the 235/55/17's for my taste, but the 19's would be too little.
I'd like just a little more than my 245/45/17's so the 18's should be perfect.

The ones that will work WITHOUT messing up you indicated speed on the speedometer are:
235/55/17 -stock (27.1" diameter)
255/50/17-(27.0" diameter)

255/45/18-(26.9" diameter)
285/40/18-(27.2" diameter)

245/45/19-(27.6" diameter)
275/40/19-(27.6" diameter)

265/35/20-(27.2" diameter)
255/35/20-(27.0" diameter)

That's from www.tirerack.com
I haven't done the math, but the circumference of all these tires should be the same.

EDIT: Ok it bugged me so I went back and did the math.

the stock wheel is 8" wide. I think that 255 wide tire is the limit (or close) being that it is 10" wide. 255's can be use on a 7-9" rim so, 8" is right in the middle.

Should be practically the same overall diameter as the stock wheel because when going wider you lower the sidewall profile from 55 to 50 series.

here is a link to the product specs, The tires is a good match at only 2/10"s of an inch shorter in overall dia.

To bad they dont make this size in a Michelin Pilot Sport A/S

I'm going with 18x9's for my 255/45/18's.

Cheap? I don't think so. I'd buy a new jacket and belt buckle! Shouldn't have clothing that does damage to finishes, just does not make good sense to me if you plan on take'n care of the things you own. Sorry but I just have to ask, what is your belt buckle doing near the steering wheel spokes anyway? :nono:

BTW the wider tires look awesome, car is fabulous. When I mentioned to my lifelong in the tire buissness friend, that I would have liked the G-Force to have come from factory, he also told me the Perellis Zeros are better than the G-Force. I like the look of the BFG's.

The tires look sure look good on the car. Living in the mountains with some ice and snow, I checked out the Tire Rack for UHPAS in 255/50/17 and they came up with the BFG's and also Continental Extreme Contact and Kumho's. The Conti's and BGF had the same dry tracton rating (8.7) but the Continental's beat it for wet (8.7/8.1) and snow (8/6.2). Not sure if this really means anything. Anyone have thoughts/experience regarding Continental Cont/ExtremeContact?

I recommend the BFG KDWS's. Very sticky tire. You'll also notice an improvement in handling because they have a VERY stiff sidewall (extra metal ribs to give it stregth and make it flat (no bulge).

I did find they wore quickly though.

I like that width. I will go with one of two options:

255 45R18 on 9" rims or

285 40R18 on 9" rim

More than likely I'll use the first setup with those gorgeous 18" fanblades.

WOW!!!!!!!! Those 255/50/17's make a world of difference. The stance on that car has changed sooooo much. You can tell by just looking at the meat that the car is gonna handle so much better. Launches are gonna be better and cornering ... well, lets just say, less drift and a much more stable. The car looks AWSOME with the new tires. All it needs now is to lower it about 1 inch!! That's all!!! I suggest every one to get the 255/50/17's if ya plan on staying with the factory rim. i'm gonna keep the factory rims. Why not. A lot of $$$ for 18's and besides they are brand new. maybe after a year I will think about the 18's . I have to say. Thanks 38special for making my day. I was darn set on the new mustang wearing these tires and you proved me right!!!!
Thanks a lot for the trouble of driving to the gas station for the pics. Have fun and let us know how those new sneakers are feeling tomorrow. Test the cornering and launches and compare if you can still remember what the 235's felt like.
