The BOV - or blow off valve is exactly what has been stated. I pressure relief to expell excess air pressure build up when the t-body slams shut and the turbo has no place to push the sir it was just producing. You will find our kit does not make a ton of turbo noise as we size the BOV to move a ton of air on decell.
Turbos seem really complex, I can't understand this even after reading it 3 times...but i've also been drinking

Tomorrow I hope to move forward a lot. I'm tired of these short nights just piddling around.

Today I messed around with the power steering lines. On the driver's side, they need to be relocated (read:bent) out of the way. This is always scary, since you don't want to kink or break them.

I think I moved them out of the way enough - I'll know when I start running the exhaust pipes if they need to be tweaked a little more.

On the passenger side, the starter wire(s) need to be rotated 180 degrees to get them out of the way of the exhaust - that should be an easy step.

Turbo spools up... 8psi is reached... wastegate opens so pressure stops building. Engine doesn't go boom.

Gas pedal is lifted... boost is trapped... blow off valve opens to relieve pressure. Turbo doesn't go boom.

Better?

yup Another question because i'm really curious, what happens if the wategate malfunctions, would the engine go boom

Yes.

But it's a spring. Unless it gets welding shut, I can't see it failing. If it fails (spring breaks?), then it would fail open.

Now, if the vacuum line falls off the BOV? I don't know about that... Maybe the trapped boost will still be forced out the blow-off valve without the vacuum assist.

I didn't get as far as I wanted to today because I didn't have any help. My dad was supposed to be here today and tomorrow, but he had to work. And some things are so much easier with a second set of hands.

I did mount the turbo:

Attachment 35402 The part to the left will be covered by a polished heat shield. Blue hose in back is just laying on the engine.

You can also see the check valve that is installed between the intake and cam cover (gray thing, top center of the pic)

I installed the tee fitting in the oil filter adapter that supplies oil to the turbo:

Attachment 35403 Blue fitting just installed hand-tight for the pic.

The oil pressure sensor is replaced by a tee, then the sensor is re-installed and the oil line added.

I also installed the oil drain fitting. Same thing... the oil level sensor is repleced by a tee, then the sensor is re-installed and the barb fitting for the oil drain added:

Attachment 35404 The flash makes it look dirty... and it is a daily driver (Bill).

I also:

1. Recoated the heat wrap and test fit all the pipes.
2. Primed and painted all the visible intake tubing with Ford Semi-Gloss Black (and cured them in the oven )
3. Installed the intake pipe into the turbo
4. Installed the discharge pipe into the turbo
5. Installed the pipes from the headers that wrap around to the pipe in #3.
6. Installed what was left of the H-Pipe
7. Installed the hi-flow cats into the H-Pipe

Then it got dark.

I will have to lose the stock K-member brace. Convertibles come with a brace from the factory and it's in the way of some of the exhaust pipes.
Oh well - I don't do any hi-speed cornering or road racing, anyway.

I can't even sell it! There are special brackets that aren't on coupes. I could only sell it to convertible owners, and they already have one!

I was really surprised when I saw it came with a K-Member brace - I noticed when I want to install the K-Member brace I bought.

It has bracing from the middle of the car all the way to the back, under the axles, and to the trunk area. I can see that for making up for no top, but a K-member brace? That just supports K-member flexing during hard cornering.

Maybe the car will spit into two after I take it out for a test drive with the turbo?

That makes me laugh!

Maybe with 3 guys working on it.... who know what they are doing... and aren't as picky as me...

Today I got all the exhaust pipes in place (clamps still need to be tightened).

That alone took hours and hours - I have no idea how anybody could do the entire job in 10 hours. There's tweaking and pulling and aligning - nothing just drops into place. I didn't expect it would, but it does take time.

I also changed the injectors over today to the 39 pound-ers:

Attachment 35454 Attachment 35455 Attachment 35456

I test fit the wastegate, so one more clamp and that's done.

I do have a wastegate question for any turbo people: There is a 1/8" NPT hole in the turbo for a fitting and two holes for fittings on the wastegate (1 on the top, and 1 on the side). The top fitting on the wastegate goes to a boost controller which I won't be using, so that hole is left as a vent.

The instructions say to hook the fitting on the turbo to the side fitting on the wastegate, but there wasn't any pressure hose in the kit.

I talked to J.R. at Granatelli and he said to plug the hole on the turbo and to leave both holes on the wastegate as vents.

Finally to my question (I emailed J.R. already, too):

What's the difference in performance/HP/stress between hooking the turbo to the side hole on the wastegate, or plugging the hole on the turbo and leaving both holes on the wastegate as vents?

Also, I know I leave the top hole in the wastegate as a vent, but should I plug the side hole in the wastegate IF I plug the hole in the turbo??

Here are some funny pics of my garage (looks like a bomb went off):
