A wheelage tax is a user fee applied as a surcharge to license registration fees collected when vehicle tabs are issued or renewed.

BINGO! Out here in MA, we get to pay an excise tax!
Here is the "excise tax" as defined by the website,....(I LOVE the wording in this one!)
Chapter 60A of Mass. General Laws imposes an excise on the privilege of registering a motor vehicle or a trailer in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Wow! The privilege to register your car?! Are you kidding me? Who is making that money? It's supposed to go to fixing the roads/bridges and road clean up in this state. You should see some of these roads/bridges, and these roads need to be cleaned up for sure.
