Fortunately there's no hipsters around here. Unless camo cut off shorts and old tshirts that used to have sleeves count. And a straw hat too. Is that hipster?

What ever is ticking is coming from one of the two rear cylinders on the passenger side under the valve cover

Pull the valve cover and see if anything is loose....but make sure you turn the engine over by hand during the inspection while constantly checking.

That should be a VERY obvious noise if that were the case but I haven't seen that problem on the '01 DOHC engines....not that it can't happen but that's a pretty loud/obvious tick that would have been caught when he checked for exhaust leaks.
