DTC30s were designed for dirt-track applications according to Hawk's website. That means they are designed for cars that are a lot lighter and require much less brake torque to lock or slow a wheel due to the racing surface they operate on.

They may not be effective at all on a heavy car like a Mustang, running on asphalt/tarmac, due to reduced brake torque vs. a DTC60 or 70. I have a friend that absolutely destroyed a set of these on his MIATA. Edit: Looks like Adam had a similar experience already.

That being said, I don't work at Hawk, and I would assume that they know more than me. Might want to double-check on that recommendation just to be sure.

When I talk about track pads, for this conversation anyways, I want to emphasis that I am talking primarily about safety. I am not talking about all of us being Michael Schumachers or whomever and needing the best parts to allow us to go as fast as we possibly can. The car will always be faster and we will always be learning and getting better. To me I don't EVER want to feel brake fade. I don't EVER want to doubt or wonder if my car will stop in time.

I don't look for the BEST stopping pads on the market. I look for something that performs great but more importantly has the best reliability. Something that is supposed to take whatever beating I can dish out and keep on going.

You should look for a pad this is designed for what you want to do with it (track or street for example), what car it will be used on (heavy or light for example), and how it will be used in the application (heavy tracking, light tracking, etc).

It is not worth it to cut corners. No matter how small or rounded that corner may be....

I do wonder this as well, if they really add anything. I think Gary is already embarrassing many more potent or lighter cars out there with his setup and skills, so wonder if this would add anything. The true race teams (Grand Am, etc) do use a full Brembo race setup, but they're still just 4 piston models..

Of course, if you're gonna go big, go all out

Unless we are talking about actual corners, on a track!

Under $300 here - 148.80 ea free shipping

http://www.carpartparadise.com/brake...or-front-right

Autoanything is close at 162.95 with $10 off (the guy on the phone told me he could do 10 off on each) so $305 with free shipping.
I just ordered a set of these from Autoanything today at 138ea, shipped. they have 15% off today only. I don't think I will run them for a while since the Brembo slotted I am using are still in good shape so I will not have a review right away but if they hold up like the rears they should be OK.

I just ordered DBA 5000 fronts and rears

Hawk DTC 70 fronts and 60 rears

the rotors will save quite a bit of weight

my supplier says he can get 5000 rears but everyone else I talked to said they couldn't get them or they didn't make them... Anyone have any info on this?

Adam-
According to my records when I reasearched this application topic months ago, the two-piece 5000 series DBA rotors are only available on the Mustang fronts. The single piece 4000 series DBA rotors are availble for both the front and rear locations.

That is what I thought as well. I wonder if there is another rotor size they make that is for a different car but fits the mustang?

It's not so much about the diameter but about the hat to face offset to work with the caliper and spindle position on our cars

Was checking for cracks in my front Brembo slotted rotors after three hours at the track this weekend.

After cleaning them off I saw this, had no idea the Brembo slotted had Ford part numbers.

I'm going to go with Stop Tech Aerohat rotors. Had them on my 350Z and they held up great.

I also used PFC01 track pads and they worked really good.

Edit: Ewww, Just priced the StopTech's and the DBA's. For a $200 difference it looks like I'll give the DBA's a try.

Not sure if any of you guys are using these but I also ran them in my 350z (StopTech version). I ran them from the beginning so I cant say how much they helped if any but I never had any heat issues.

I tried a set of DTC 30's at Daytona after using the HP+ all season. I will never use them again and will most likely switch away from Hawk pads now. At Daytona they were new with new rotors. The first session the steering wheel was shaking and I had a lot of vibration up front. It did calm down after the second session but I still had some wheel shake for the third and fourth session.

I spoke with Hawk and they blamed me for not bedding them in correctly. I took their recommendation and sanded down the pads (and rotors) but the problem was much worse at PB last weekend. It was to the point of having to loosen my hands on the steering wheel while braking. I contacted Hawk and again they blamed me for not bedding them in correctly.

What happens if you have to change pads at the race track? Don't have a perfect bed in the pads are useless? I am not impressed with Hawks answer on this.

Wheel shake

I have no idea how you are having good results with the hp+.... But whatever works for you keep rocking it!

I had bad experience with the DTC30s as well. They didn't even last a day and a half. I worked with a guy named Justin that doesn't work there anymore. When I had problems he took care of it. The last time I called I talked to someone else and the guy was a ****. I ended up calling back and talking to the manage who made things better. I am moveing on from Hawk as well. The DTC 70/60 combo I was running stopped the car great but the fronts didn't even last three days....

I think I am going to try carbotech next.

Like Scott I'm using the HP+ with good results. They are a nice improvement over the stock pads and I understand they are not the end all in brake pads. I'm not out setting any lap records just having fun and trying to be safe. With that said my next move up will most likely be the DTC 60 or 70 like Drew and Gary have been using successfully. Two piece rotors will also get ordered up when that time comes.

The DTC 70 & 60 are for road racing. Those others aren't road race pads. They also have the HT10, but I've never tried them. I always follow their bed-in procedures and season my rotors before tracking them. I keep a spare set of stock rotors that have been seasoned and also always bring a spare set of pads that have been bed-in previously in case I have a cracked rotor or finish off pads at the track.

More good advice as usual.
