Right now running DTC70/60 and noise on street isn't bad. May try Cobalt Friction XR2 next as they are really good and last a long time on the GT3.

Can I switch to 70/60's on my original rotors if I bed them properly? I assume that s no different than just changing pads?

Yes. Wipe the rotors down with brakleen when you are changing the pads. Then get them bedded well

There is a lot of good advise in this thread. What I have thrown out there is from a beginner point of view, brakes like tires can get expensive and I was looking to run something somewhat economical while still in the learning process. Sure I can go burn up a set of Hoosiers when I still don't know how to set the pressures correctly but that is just not worth it and I don't have the cash for it. Same with the brakes, I am being lazy not wanting to swap brakes every time I go tracking and switch back again but also I am not wanting to burn expensive pads and rotors. Like I said I am still learning and just getting to the point of running consistent lap times.

I certainly trust the opinions of people that have years of experience tracking and I do not mean to contradict anything they say. My only reason for posting up what I have learned is to maybe help out the new guys looking to hit the track on occasion while on a budget and maybe not having the ability to do tons of prep work before hitting the track on Saturday.

In time I will need to step up to the full race pads and do all the work with it. For now I am happy I was able to learn on a set of dual use pads like the Plus. I even ran some respectable times at local tracks with them, nothing record breaking but respectable. The 30's for me and some others here were a BIG mistake so it seems to me at least beginners can use a set of street/track pads up until a certain point and then you will need to look into a dedicated set of race pads and rotors. My only problem was the technical support received from Hawk was worthless, all they did was try to find anyway to blame me no matter how far they needed to stretch the truth.

Drew has lots of experience out there but if I can add one thing. Sanding down the rotors when swapping in new pads can't hurt and make sure you have no grooves in them.

After personally suffering a loss on the track, SAFETY COMES FIRST NO EXCEPTIONS!! You spent over 30k on the car, you can afford pads and rotors, if not wait a little bit. There is nothing more important than your life and the lives of others on the track.

+1 for dedicated track set

I never compromised safety, I never felt unsafe when I ran the HP+ and others here have tried them with what I understand is good results. No fade or loss or pedal, if it had done that I would have moved right on up to full race pads. What I was trying to say is I was looking for an alternative to swapping out pads and rotors for every track day and not using the most expensive wheel to wheel pad while learning my way around the track. After all Ford says you can use the factory pads and rotors for track days and they are dual use. Plenty of PP cars saw track duty with the stock pads.

Still I never feel quite right with the 30's and now I know why since I finally got around to pulling them today. It is embarrassing even posting this and I know where I have gone wrong so no need to repeat it If these pics help anyone else out even thinking about running the Hawk 30's then it is worth posting this. I had an hour 45 run time at Daytona on these and they wore more then the other pads I used but still appeared to have a lot of life for my next track day (or so I thought).

I had checked them at lunch and knew they would be unusable for another day but I was still surprised at the end result. I am shocked I burned through about 3/4 of the pads in one day. I was getting 4+ days on the HP+ pads at the same track. Remember the manufacturer recommended these! Lesson learned without bending any metal.

Wow those got really worn. I used the HP+ for autocross and they worked really well, granted those are short stints. Still haven't made it to sebring, pbir, or daytona. Hoping to get there this season, just gonna need some new tires. Hopefully I can get some track wheels too since this is my Daily driver also

Just read some reviews on CL track pads by doing a Google search. Everything I read from Evo and Vette guys seemed pretty good so I think I'm going to try them. Anyone here try them yet? I mostly read reviews on the RC6 pads but also read somewhere that the RC8 would be better for heavier cars with power in the 500hp range.

Never heard of them.

Also be careful on that page you linked, you are in the brembo gt kit fitment. The pad shape and size are different, as is the thickness.

We need pad shape D1001 for the fronts and D1082 for rear. I already made this mistake once, lol.

Zeckhausen is a good source, I also like topbrakes.com

Nissan GT-R guys run these pads with good results. That car is heavier and more powerful......

How would those work on the Boss for street & track use?

Hmm didn't know the pads were different sizes, thought they were the same kit. Good to know. Are the brake rotors the same between the gt brembo package and boss?

Yes. I bought Brembo GT rotors and pads from a friend to put on my '07Droid GT500 so I could swap my DBAs over to my Boss. They all use the same front and rear brakes.
