There were typically only a few dozen cars made each of those years.

WHAT A FREAKIN' AWESOME CAR! I have absolutely no regrets about about my 2 week old GT 5.0. Will the boss be better??? Likely, but I'm having a blast and can always increase performance as I see fit.
Whoever gets this car will have a beautiful piece of machinery, so instead of having regrets, I'll just go with a little envy.

I just checked the 69 and 70 boss 302 production #'s and found this.
1969 - 1628
1970 - 7013
Maybe Ford will produce them for 2 years as well and maybe make a decent amount like 5-7k a year?

Mark has a point...
Ford would be better positioned to have SOMETHING REALLY great for a 50th anniversary...
would you like it to be a last hurrah in terms of a nice colour and tape/stripe package .... or a entirely new kickass design.???
I think we've pretty much answered this one

Well we will wait and see. I just want something that is a little different then the next guy.
If only I had enough money to afford both. The Boss will have to do though.
No to shaby. I might have to do this depending on funds.
Yeah but the car would be a 2015 model year car. So...
Sleepert is always best
I agree with you. I however will take a CO 302. Thank You Ford.
There will be a back seat in the base 302 Model. Not the LS. I agree Grabber Blue will be great. There might be a 2013 Model Year run. We will have to wait and find out.
My dad had a 35th anniversary edt. GT and I had some of the best times of my life in that car.
Please don't keep everything to yoursself. share with me atleast. I promise I will keep everything to my self.
My next car.
Your welcome. If you are ever in NOLA I will give you a ride when I get my car.
Kickass design right?
Sorry for any inconveince. I just came from a wedding.

Per the 'timeline' that came out with the Boss intro:
1964 – Mustang debuts; serves as Indy 500 pace car;
appears in James Bond movie “Goldfinger.
2009 – Glass roof option offered; 2010 Mustang unveiled;
Mustang’s 45th anniversary celebrated
This would lead me to believe that 2014 is going to be their epic 50th model.

You have to realize Fords utter brilliance in this. They will expound upon options and colors as with every special edition before it. Then in say 2013 they can offer the car in the 1970 stripe scheme in some Grabber colors and the car will seem brand new again. I don't see this S.E. going away till the next body style.
Have I read correctly that there will be no back seat? I think this a great looking car. The only thing that would hold me back from buying this one, besides possible dealer gouging, is the color options or the lack there of. I understand where they were going with the colors, but I would like to see a black or sterling silver in the mix. Is there a possibility of a 2013 production run where they might add these colors?

I wouldn't really consider that an attitude, I have put the timeline in simple terms but no one wants to believe it. Forget everything about past anniversaries, the 50th is a very big deal in automobile terms. I wish I could go into more detail but I cannot. I am done arguing about this subject, I'll just keep everything to myself from now on.

This means I got about 3-4 years or so until the 50th (2015) comes out so I can enjoy either a Boss 302 or a 2012 GT loaded until then

Well, according to FORD, the 2004 model year was the 40th anniversary, so 10 model years later and the 2014 would be the 50th.

Ford WILL celebrate the 50th anniversary in 2014. 1979 = intro of Fox body. 1984 = GT350 20th anniversary edition. 1989 = all Mustangs had a 25th Anniversary badge on the dash. 1994 = intro of the SN95. 1999 = 35th anniversary GT's and fender badges. 2004 = 40th anniversary fender badges. 2009 = 45th anniversary fender badges.
The '64.5 thing was started by enthusiasts not because they were special, but because they were quite different cars with many different parts and even colors from the Mustangs that were produced once the '65 model year started for all Fords. There was a need to differentiate them, especially if you were trying to restore one.

Overall, a triumph of substance over flash. This is a real driver's car package rather than the usual marketing department stripe and spoiler fluff. There is a lot of real meat in this Boss package and the attention to engineering detail is impressive. I think this will readily displace the GT500 as to most exciting and comprehensive Stang out there, even if the GT500 might still better the Boss by a few tenths on a couple measures.
That all said, I think the few weaker points on the Boss are primarily aesthetic. Some of the design details are even fussier than the GT and the Boss graphics are too repro rather than retro, looking a bit forced and awkward. Not bad, mind you, but not art either.
In any case the sheer awesomeness of the Boss package is, well, awesome, and a clear indication that the era of "good enough" has been superseded by the an ethic of excellence.
Well done, Ford.
