Front fascia caught uncovered during testing 8/20
That being said, I remember that random member coming on here and saying the design wasn't finalized because some execs saw the car and hated that it wasn't a big enough change, and that the release was going to be pushed back. Maybe this is one of those original designs, or maybe this is the one that was finalized, we won't know until the car is revealed. Either way, I like it, Fusion/Focus ST look and all. And I can picture it in my head with the trim/badges installed and in Ruby Red, just gleaming under the auto show lights. I can't wait to see it!
You are right it's a Fusion front... But this is not the 15 Stang definitive front, it's too far in front of what should be the grille. Also at the place of grille, inside, you can see on both sides, like a "V" effect other parts of a an other frontend...
Now with all this talk of it, it seems like everyone on my ride home from work was driving a "Fustang"
This. I have always love the Mustang as the flagship.. The car that says Mustang before it says Ford. In fact the S197 only said ford on the rear fake gas cap. I am not saying the Fusion, Focus ST, Fiesta ST are bad looking in fact I quite like them for what they are in the Ford line up and the fact they say FORD in the emblem both front and rear. If this is the look that they were hiding all this time I have to ask you all why did they wait if it was just another Ford line up look. They did not hide the IRS nor did they hide details of the car being sold elsewhere and we were to see a Eco4. It has me really perplexed because this was the biggest guarded secret in the automotive community and then nothing.. zip zilch?? It like waiting to see a Alien from area 51 and he looks just like us... umm again why all the cloak and dagger?? So all you people who say it looks nothing like the Fusion front end have not really I mean really looked and compared the pics.. I have studied them hard in fact I can take the pic of the fusion make it grey, remove the chrome grill etc.. and paste it up and you would see what I am seeing.. Look at the fog light area's the two are identical. The headlights, same the grill opening same, hood lines same.. if you can not see it.. Please read this:

If I were an engineer at ford and had my way, I'd put a fusion (or other ford or lincoln) hood, grill, bumper, fenders, headlamps, and so on on a mustang mule and run it without anything covered up to play a big joke on all the auto spy photographers and the internet....
That's just something I would do, if I were in the position to do it.

I have been a very strong proponent of the NO Evos/Fusion front end but I have to say I like what I see so far. Someone mentioned the open or setback grille looking very Cobra'ish and I agree.
It he trapezoid shape has been fully implemented in the Ford family, with each car getting its own variant on the theme. I like it. It also feels, too me, that Fords branding is being lead by the Mustang.
Also to whomever said it's exactly the same as the Fusion, I disagree. The shape of the bottom (of the upper) of the grille is different and the entire thing is lower. The headlights don't line up with the Fusion overlay at all in a previous post. And the bottom corners are much more aggressive.
I do agree that it isn't as unique as I would like but yes the Fox bodies had front ends hat were very corporate Ford. I had hoped that they would keep the Mustang more unique but I do like what I see. I'm now more concerned about the rear. That's the part of the Evos design I hate the most. Too short/bulbous looking.
I am curious why this front has been revealed now though? Is it possible Ford is nervous about the reaction to it and wanted to gauge our reaction?
Cooling during performance testing. How else to refine this shape correctly. Expect it to evolve slightly as a result of testing.
Regarding the weight and 450 hp issue I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the GT will have 450hp. Doesn't The Boss 302 have 444hp? I think 450 is very doable.
On the weight issue I'm gonna say hat the EB-I4 will be 400 lbs less than the current GT and the new GT will be 200lbs less than the current GT. The V6 model will be 200-300 lbs less.
That's my prediction, time will tell.

Take it easy, there is always going to be someone on a forum that doesn't agree with you or will correct you or what not, even if you think your right or you are plain out right. Take it from my experience and keep your cool....

heres a white one- oops its a fusion, I musta missed the striking differences...wonder if fusion folks will start putting mustang grilles in their cars, bet it wouldnt take much
they both look good, but sorry- I dislike Ford slapping the same face on every model- at least the goofy tri-bar grille on everything mentality is shifting...

As much as the Fusion comparisons keep getting thrown around, I don't get the same vibe from this. Sure, you can see the corporate derived front end, but it's not so similar that it looks pasted on. I was concerned that S550 would end up looking like a Fusion coupe. I don't think that's the case anymore.
Overall, I think this is a higher trim level car, for a few reasons:
1 - Covered hood vents and what appear to be brake cooling ducts in the lower grille area
2 - Use of Boss 302/GT500 wheels. The 19x9.5 or 19x10 front and similarly sized rear make me suspect a higher level of performance.
3 - Using a Boss 302S as a chase car. Not what I would have expected for benchmarking, but not a bad thing either.
I'll reserve my final judgement until I see the whole car, but if it has a tight, athletic look on the other three sides, then I don't see it being a bad thing.

The more I think about the picture the more I think this is not really the true front end...this car is being built for Europe and Canada as per norm....we know they get a ton of snow in the winter...that set back grill/nose would be like a giant snow sucker and plug up in no time flat.....thoughts?
There is plenty of room for Mustang to be both pony and muscle car, especially if the difference is only a few seconds on a road course with a professional driver between pony and muscle car versions ( Boss vs. GT500 for example).
Good catch. I don't believe we're actually seeing the actual design.
Its been said "why would they test with a nose that wasn't the actual design."
I suggest they have already tested with the Talladega Fusion nose in the past. They know what they want as far as performance and how to compare notes to the actual Mustang nose.
Adding another pic of the Talladega Fusion:

i have owned a 1994, 2001, 2003, 2006 and 2012 (gt/cs & boss)...im sure im not in the "haters" category. to this day i have not owned a fox body for the simple fact it looks like evey other car in the lineup thru those "corporate" years....
i think that is the state of chevy right now and i do not like the outcome...
ford is getting there with the current lineup....i cant tell a fiesta from a fusion from a focus from an escape...(and you know im telling the truth here) i like it when the car was unique....different from the rest...
and also if you read my post i said that i hope that i eat my words on what i say....so im really agreeing with you if you can understand that.
