Front fascia caught uncovered during testing 8/20
I am completely underwhelmed and disappointed at this. Seriously.
I dreamed it to be something much more, but it truly is a tweaked version of the fusion. It's a little wider and lower but it's 95% the same look and that is extremely disappointing in every single way possible.
Does it look good? Yes.
Does it look as good as it should have? Hell no.
From strike out to grand slam, this is a very safe double. They were way too conservative. I'm pissed.
I was considering a corvette if the Mustang didn't deliver something even more sporty and aggressive and it looks like I have concretely made my decision.

Omg the skies falling!!
A fusion could would have completely different proportions and looks entirely different. Styling might be similar, but no where close to being the same.

The current stang owns the Camaro and Challenger at equal model levels. The new mustang will be at least 400lbs lighter! GM and Dodge will have a tough time matching it. This will be especially true with the Camaro. If they shave off weight and improve the handling it will compete more against the Corvette. The new Corvette is about 3300lbs with 460hp. The new Mustang GT is expected to be about 3200lbs with 450hp. This mustang will own the Camaros and Challengers and rival the Corvette.
My suspicion was correct in that the Evos was the concept car and that the Mustang was the influence behind it
Overall I really like the new design, modern/aggressive with mustang dna mixed in! Scanning these pics it seems like Ford cut on the car's overhangs and snipped at the wheelbase a bit because the impression I get is that of a shorter/tighter vehicle.
.....and PLEASE stop calling it a Fusion coupe because last time I remembered both the Mustang and Aston Martin came out way before it! If the new Fusion had come out after the new stang had already been out, I guarantee this discussion would've been a lot different.

I too was considering a Corvette while waiting for more of a reveal on the new mustang. I really think this look is just as good as the Corvette. The Sting Ray look is great but it is quasi retro again(been there done that) Lets see a fully loaded Vette 75K that will not out run a fully loaded 50K Mustang GT. "Yes I believe a fully loaded GT will be 50K. No thanks on the Vette when I can get a fully loaded Shelby GT350 with about 600hp for 60K-70K if I can wait another year and get used to the sound of a flat crank V-8 that sounds like a Ferrari engine.
first impression: looks slick, still has mustang cues, looks leaner & meaner. I see no new fusion in the front.
i see new M4 & eClass in the lower fascia thus this new stang will appeal to a broader audience and i like where they are going with it.
in order for the mustang to survive it must evolve (and i don't mean moving it to a fwd platform either, that just spells FAILURE lol), can't be stuck with the retrostyling forever.

Just to add another .02, I kinda expected the "fusion coupe." I do like it though, and I think when Ford adds all the decorations, it will be a mean looking car. There is bound to be various scoops and such. I'm in.
Ok if you seriously think the new car will come in with more power and less weight than the vette... you need to pass the pipe.

On the other hand, you have the C7, which if you've seen it in person looks like a Ferrari and handles like one too. At 460hp the power really should have been closer to 500 than 450 but it's still very respectable. The Z06 version will bring the heat against the best anything from Italy has to offer under $300,000.
The thing I hate at this point is the release windows for the next muscle cars. Mustang next year, camaro 2 years from now, and challenger replacement for 2017, 2015-2016 will see a refresh with new interior plus new front/back. I'm kind of waiting to see what dodge will do with the next challenger, if they could pull off what ford is doing, while making it smaller plus quad headlamps and a led racetrack taillight, I could see myself all over that.

Reserving judgement until the entire package is revealed. From that picture, portions of the front end remind me of some bad import body kits that were mainly laughed at just a few short years ago.
Well. Nice! I like it. I don't love it. Yet. But if it ends up close to the grey concept posted above, it will certainly be a 21st century Stang. Now lets see what the SE's will look like! :P
Love the look. It does have a Fusion/Focus St design to it, which isn't bad at all. It's the only element of the Fusion that I think looks interesting, the rest if the car isn't as nice. I'm sure this will look better overall from all body panels. If the 2015 Mustang came out before the Fusion then no one would've minded as much.
Pah. I still say the Fusion was inspired by the upcoming Mustang, it just got to market first being a volume seller.
