IMHO it's looks part S-197 and SN-95.. From the side profile the greenhouse looks nearly identical with the SN-95 roofline and the body looks too much S-197..

I still like Topnotch's rendering the best so far !

Looks super awesome. That's because it looks like the 10-14 body style. That's not a totally new design. Lol!

The second generation Probe GT was a bad-*** car. If that car had a twin-turbo 4-cyl engine & all wheel drive, it'd ruled the road.

I see some areas I really like, and I see some areas that could use some updating to fit the generally accepted expectation of what's coming...
One thing I sincerely hope does not find its way into the next design is the dreaded wide body look. All of these limited/special edition one-off's recently (Thunderbirds Mustang, Need for Speed, Terlingua, Shelby tribute GT500, etc) look cartoonish and terrible IMHO.

Get rid of the widebody, adjust the copy pasta Taurus front end, and this rendering becomes the first in this long barrage of renders that I can comfortably say "I'd buy that." In fact, I'd beat the brakes off it...

Or just suitably pumped up its super sweet, super smooth, super sonerous V6 to keep pace with the competition rather than just letting it whither on the vine like the did. The Japanese-spec car did have a 200hp version, which may not sound like much now, but the U.S. spec only had ~165hp and all its competitors were around the 200hp mark when it faded away. Also, the Probe GT only weighed about 2800lbs so it didn't take a USS Missouri-class engine to move the thing.

I totally agree and pretty much my only complaint with the current 2005-2014 Mustang is that dreaded wide body look as like you said gives the car that cartoonish porky appearance.

As the Mustang is supposed to be a pony car and not something that appears more like a pig or some beached whale..

I sometimes often wonder if Ford, GM and Chrysler got the inspiration from the old AMC Pacer for their designs as the Pacer was the first wide body design to come out of Detroit which also looked cartoonish/porky and looked more like a fishbowl with wheels..

Thank God it didn't last very long as I hated it lol.

^ In your opinion. I think it was a good looking alternative to what was available at the time.
Did anyone notice that AMC had a 6 cylinder and a 22 gallon tank?

That's exactly right ! It was in my opinion and I'll stand by it as well.. As the AMC Pacer looked like a bubble shaped fishbowl on wheels..

That pacer ad brings back memories as my dad use to own one. We used to call them " aquarium's" back in the days.

Of course i won't show the pic where you see me sitting on the hood with a big smile off my face. But i'm sure you get the picture.

He had so many problems of all kinds that he went out to get a `76 Mercury Monarch to replace it.

As a former owner of a '95 Ford Probe I will flat out say that it was a wonderful sports car. Fwd it might've been but used to get compliments on its looks, great utility, and overall great vehicle dynamics! Mustang replacement it was not but it annoys me to no end when pro mustang people bash it just because of Ford's intentions. You want to judge it? Then I hope you darn well owned the Probe at one point....

Whoah!? Someone touched a nerve.
Seriously though. I always thought it was cutting edge at the time. Very fast and quiet. Handled extremely well. I dare say that the 2nd generation could have been brought out ten years later and it still would have been in the run of things. Of course with all the latest electrical upgrades, but I'm talking aesthetics.

Does anyone remember pricing? If it was close to the price of a Mustang, there is no way I would have bought one.

I never owned a probe. I never drove in a probe. I never sat in a probe. I have no idea on how fast they were or how well they handled. I never had any interest in them because they were so plug ugly and wouldn't spend money for it. Clearly, the Ford probe was not profitable and Ford didnt see a future market for it because the line died and stopped making it.
