I don't know about you, but some of my favorite Fords are overseas exclusives. This is a global economy, with many Mustang enthusiasts across the world who too, want the Mustang to be Mustang.

It must be brash in every possible way.
I'm so tired of saying this. The original Mustang was styled with European sports car styling cues, with the S197 clearly aping its look from the earliest cars. What, exactly, IS American styling?

Big bulky cars maybe?

Exactly. The original had strong design influence from the Jaguar E-Type, something admitted to by people that worked on the car.

Let's wait and see what the car looks like before we start accusing them "foreigners" of "taking our Mustangs" and getting the pitch forks out.

lol idk about you guys but I have my pitch fork ready for this battle.

If some of you don't know what is a American styling, please look at a 370z and then a Mustang..

Weird, 370Z's look nothing like Mustangs or Aston Martins. For that matter, the older Z's used older Mustang styling cues too...

240z is timeless

I've wondered the exact same thing every time someone harps about the Mustang losing "its American/musclecar/etc. styling". I love classic Mustang styling but I don't think it's what some people seem to think it is.

Very true. The 240z basically looked like a scaled down '69-'70 Mustang sportsroof (complete with '69-style c-pillar medallion!) coupled with a Jaguar E-type front end. In my book, it wouldn't be such a bad thing for the Mustang to evoke the classic 240z (to some degree) since they in turn were influenced by classic Mustangs to begin with.

It seems like the modern consumer has a very narrow, and sometimes ignorant, view of what the Mustang is.

Yea, after all this time, this is still my favorite design. There are other excellent possibilities show here, but Burning Man's render is still the tops for me.

Honestly, American styling is the Camry and Accord. Since they are influenced by American wants and sales numbers.

Gigantic tail fins, lots of chrome, and robust hood ornaments.

IDK. I think this looks more like a cross between a Porsche and a Daytona Coupe. Maybe even a little Jag.

Ah, American styling:

Be careful of what you wish for, American styling has birthed many abominations and beauties, though European styling is not immune from this either.

As mentioned many times, the original Mustang, to go back to its founding DNA, did meld a lot of European themes and ideas not only in the styling, but also in the very concept of a modestly-sized 2+2 sport coupe, what with an emphasis on a more balanced performance envelope rather than simple blunderbuss acceleration as evidenced by its smallish, high-winding 260/289 V8.

Should the Stang return to some European stylistic strains and emphasize an even more well-balanced performance suite, that would in fact represent a return to its roots, not a betrayal of them.
