SEMA agrees with you:

The six-speed gearbox also will become standard equipment in the updated MkII FPV GT, GT-P and Pursuit, all of which are powered by the high-tech quad-cam Boss 290—the only V8 engine built in Australia.
EDIT: So does Ford of Australia:

The Boss 290 combines the best of both worlds, with race-bred power and everyday comfort. The awe-inspiring Boss 290 is a powerplant unlike any ever built in this country and comes to life on Australia's only current V8 engine production line.

Definately nice....love the blue and white paint scheme.
Our Gt350 when and if it comes, it will be white w/blue and Blue w/white, it will have 400+ HP. All the Mustangs are cool. enjoy them.....
Post 12
If we did a Gt350, it would need to have 400 HP. I am not working on one yet. We have a lot going on and this is not in the for seeable future....sorry guys

What you watched was a markeing video. And we all know how marketing departments like to stretch the truth. Believe me, they do not cast or machine mod motor blocks and heads down under.

Somewhere I saw photos of the 5.4 Boss engines leaving Romeo for Australia. It's possible that the Aussies take the Boss 260 and tweak it to be a Boss 290.

Compared to the US, the population of Australia is tiny (less than 21m) compared to 332m for the US & Canada. No way in the world does Ford have another Mod motor production facility down under for a market that is 6% the size of the US & Canada..

From Wikipedia
Ford Australia uses modular V8s in the Ford Falcon and Ford Fairlane sedan model ranges, as well as in its high performance Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) division models. The DOHC and QOHC Modular V8s are coined Boss by Ford Australia, with a number designation referring to power output in kW. The 230 kW Barra engine and Boss 260 and 290 shortblocks, heads and crankshafts are built in Windsor, Ontario. The Boss engines include some locally sourced parts such as intake and pistons. [/b]
- note 4V heads are only made @ Romeo

So it sounds like Ford Australia gets 90% complete engines from Romeo or Windsor and then does a little work on them to make them so called Aussie engines.

Guys, get real. How man of you have been inside an engine foundry or manufacting plant?

No way in the world do they manufacture Mod motors in Australia.

At best they may take blocks, heads, crankshafts etc. made in Romeo & Windsor and then assemble them with some aftermarket parts to make a Boss 290 down in Australia. But what they are doing is assembling an engine just like 1,000 different "Engine Builders" in the US do. In other words all they are doing is playing Robert Yates down there and doing the same thing that any NASCAR engine shop does.

There absolutely is not any production casting or machining facilities in Australia for Mod Motors. It simply is not economically feasible. The marketing department is taking poetic license saying that the Boss 290 is made in Australia.

Not yet at least.

I think BON is smoking some whacky stuff, and have been fed junk info.
Sometimes they are quick to draw on some info... but oh well.

What that tells me is that the bulk of the parts are made in the USA but are assembled, tweaked, and some of the custom parts are sourced locally in Australia.

What's even more interesting is that Ford Australia recommends the use of 5W-30 in the BF Falcon XR8 (Boss 260, 5.4L quad-cam V8 which makes 350 hp). If they are using a lot of US parts, then Ford's requirement to use 5W-20 in the US is simply for gas mileage/CAFE as we have suspected. Not many countries (if any) other than the US are using 5W-20.

Yes, exactly! As you mentioned there, she edited her post. So either there was a little bit of "oops, I spilled too many beans" or the information was not totally accurate on the first post.

The subsequent POST 12 seems to indicate there are no firm plans, which means that the BON story is making for lots of fun conversation but we just ain't sure.

Whatever engine we get, I would love for them to be flat-torque curve monsters that pull hard and are not iron-block based. Keep the front-end weight down please

If not the same, probably all but the same. At least not enough difference in HP that could allow for any radical increase.

The revelation of a 4.6 topped off by the 4V GT heads and associated ancillary tweaks makes a lot of sense for the Bullitt, especially given the rest of the item piece that indicates the Bullitt will be geared more as a road racer than a stoplight racer. The GT500 brakes, six-cog tranny and an appropriately uprated suspension would be relatively easy to do.

An iron-block DOHC 5.4 would make more sense as a Mach I motor, an application in which the deeper, broader torque band would be much more important and the increased nose weight not so much so.

I think they're would be a good market for both vehicles to appeal to their respective niches and would help counterbalance the inevitable buzz when the Camaro and Challenger reach the streets.

I do not think it would hurt Shelby at all. It would bring down the demand and probably get rid of all the ADM's, that is good for all of us. I still think they will sell everyone they make.

Agreed, but how much will all that cost us workin' stiffs?

And is the projected volume now 10K as I read someone post on imboc, or still 7K total Bullitts?

Or, is it basically TBD like everything else on this thing (except the Job1 date)?

I have no patience...

maybe the answer to all this is that the Bullitt is getting the 310hp engine, and the engine discussed in this thread and at stangsunleashed is actually for the GT 350.

In this hypothesis, fourcam would be correct about the bullitt and it would explain the purpose for this 400 hp motor.

Just thinking out loud.

I said if and when there is one it would have 400HP. it is a very long way off

Keep this up George and you'll have to sell your Shelby for want of shame...or at least pry the 90 cent badges off.

Oh brother. I'm not going to get sucked into this war.

I recommended to the admin/mods that they create a "I hate Shelby" forum just for you 2. I'll keep hounding them about it.
