do you have any stats on this? it takes years to create an engine that can be reproduced over a hundred thousand times. then you need to pass all the regulations put on from the goverment and all 50 states.
i would guess that all manufacturers take over 3 years with all thier new engine programs.

just look at the new vette. they have been testing this new engine(blown 6.2) all summer(06) in thier mules and its still 2 years away from release!

as for being the last to market with an idea, and with less power than the competitors ford is famous for this. day late and a dollar short so to speak. but i have to give them credit on thier new powerstroke. that engine is a monster!!!

No wonder they are losing money.. stop tinkering and get it down. or maybe its because they stop and start the same programs over and over.
<!--StartFragment -->It is because the way FoMoCo has operated since after WWII. The finance committee has the final say on everything. Ford spends more R&D $$ than almost any auto company, but much of those $$ are wasted when the Finance Committee kills projects because they say the product won't be profitable.

This is exactly what happened with the Hurricane V8. The Finance Committee killed it when it was getting very close to production. When Mark Fields got promoted to run NA operations he moved mountains to get the Hurricane program going again (as the Boss) because he argued that the Boss engine was critical to maintaining Ford's highly profitable F Series truck sales in the light of increasing HP from the competition. The argument was also that the Finance Committee had made a short sighted decision that would ultimately hurt Ford. Unfortunately for us Ford customers, the Finance Committee has been making short sighted decisions and killing great products for 50 years.

The only good news is that Mulally has gotten some of the Finance Committe's power curbed, but it may be too little too late.

michael i was talking about the hurricane engine which will have been in development a good part of a decade.

Thanks V10. I still don't see why its going to take to 2010 to get the hurricane now that the commitee is out of the way.

The 'Finance Committee' needs to learn that cost cutting is fine, until it starts costing you customers, which is exactly what's happened to Ford.

You can also thank the Finance Committee for years of Ford's famous "decontenting" practice.

Because it can take 2 to 3 years to purchase and install production line machinery.

If all the orders for Hurricane production tooling were canceled and then a year later the tooling was re-ordered (with no design changes) production has been delayed by 3 to 4 years. If any design changes were made between the Hurrican program and the Boss program the delay could be even longer.

I know this stuff very well, I used to be in the machine tool business and delt with Ford, GM & Chrysler.

Put this one to rest. After getting hopes up that Ford will "get it", the disappointment being expressed will result in Ford creating a lot of emo Mustang fans with this SE's engine. ("Ford doesn't understand the pain I'm feeling...") LOL.

Now we know the Bullitt is just a hyped up mustang with spoiler delete,no fogs, fake gas cap emblem,3:73's,12 more hp,and DHG paint.

Anyone with just a regular mustang could take it to a paint shop, get it painted close to DHG,get a spoiler delete, buy the bullitt fake gas cap emblem when it comes out,get bullitt fender emblems, somehow make a v6 no fogs grill fit on the gt,buy this hood Alliance Hood SVT Style, buy original torque thrusts from american racing, and,to represent the 390 CI of the original bullitt, make 390hp by getting cai, tune, udp's,cmdp's,full exhaust, and cams.So there is your home made bullitt.

One of the reasons why the '01 Bullitt has maintained a higher percentange of value over the same MY GT is not just for being unique but authentic. Clones, runner ups, wannabes, or tributes never achive an original's level of a legitimacy as a manufacturer's special edition.

Another factor is cost. A professional quality type paint job will be in the $5K range. Add other mods and the clone can be as expensive as a GT500.
