I don't think this thread is too huge up about the 4.6L 400hp engine but more so on speculating what powertrain it will receive.

Who was it that was quoted that the Bullitt will get an engine worthy of its name. I do not see an identical version of the shelby GT to be worthy of its name.

I didn't say Chevy could get 400 HP out of a mod motor. However Chevy has a 400 HP V8 that is physically smaller, lighter and gets around the same gas mileage as a 300 HP mod motor.

It was Topnotch. It seems he has some inside info he can't share.

If its some marketing guy... I wouldn't count it as fact.

I've heard more reliable info that says otherwise.
So unless the hand of god himself has made a change.....

"Reliable info" from reliable sources? Since when did the Witness Protection Plan come into play with the Mustangs?

Topnotch has good connections and I have yet to read any crap on any of his posts in the last five or six years since I noticed his postings. I am not hoping his posts are correct, I believe he is correct. I also believe that Ford's silence with respect to the Bullitt has a lot to do with with not undermining the Shelby GT, not that it would have made any difference anyway. That has already been taken care of by its very own usual suspects.

I believe we'll see a Shelby GT350 in 2008 with substancially more performance than the Shelby GT and the Bullitt will be along side of it.

It may be alongside, but I doubt it will have any performance gain.

so why does ford need to build a 4.6 with 400hp or buy engines from gm?

why cant ford just build engines with more cubes and more power? oh wait they are...5.8 and the 6.2 and the 6.4 boss engines will be here shortly(well within 4 years).

Now that the Supreme Court has ruled that the EPA can enforce stricter emissions standards - and the momentum over dealing with global warming is building in our society almost monthly - I wouldn't expect to see those 5.8L or 6.2L engines anytime soon.

They will come out as long as there is a market for them and a gas guzzler tax.

like i said before I'd rather have a 450hp car with gas guzzler of $1000 -$2000 thena 300 without...since it will cost quite a bit of money to get that much power and be factory reliable.

why do you think ford is going to more cubes? to pass the 09 epa standards and to get the power that they want to get from their base v8 engines.

why can gm(6.2, with a couple blown motors for the camaro and corvette in 09 and beyond) and chysler(500 horse 6.4 hemi will be here by 09) build 6+ liter engines that pass new emmission yet you people still believe ford cant?

I'm not sure any of them will be by '09.

Because, Ford can no longer afford to pay off the EPA inspectors?

I'm starting to think that the Boss engine won't be introduced within my lifetime. The Boss's design cycle has now exeeded the total product life of some Ford engines.

If the Bullitt has 335-350HP, what are the chances the regular GTs will get this set up and similar bump for 2009? I'm thinking Ford might want a bump in their GT HP to help sell them before the 2010 redesign. Any one else thinking this?

i changed the power numbers in your qoute. and to answer your question, i see ford changing it a little but they are limited in what they can do with the 3 valve motor. and we are only talking one year here or so. orders for the 08 have already begun.
we will see if the boss motors will be avalaible for the redesign(94 they redisigned the mustang and yet the new 4.6 motor did not arrive till 95). they should be here by model year 11 if not sooner. with the competitors turning up the heat with nice 400hp v8 base motors i believe ford will need to stay close. and like before i see ford being a couple years late with a few less ponies than dc or gm. a 5.8 380 horsepower 10/11 mustang gt would not be out of the ordinary. while the charger and camaro and gto base v8 motors all excede 400hp.

this is just my (un?)educated guess based on what we have seen from ford in the past.

09 mustang gt 300-320hp
10/11 mustang gt(when the boss engines are available) 380-410hp

why does it seem ford takes longer to create engines then any other manufacturer?

No wonder they are losing money.. stop tinkering and get it down. or maybe its because they stop and start the same programs over and over.
