function of the state of registration and their local pollution laws.
This should be just like when anyone sells a used, modified Mustang.
It doesn't need an EPA certification before the sale.
The GT-Hertz's will be "used" cars, so they don't fall under the rules for a new car certification and sale.
The Shelby-GT is being sold as a new OEM model
so it must comply with all DOT and EPA rules.
This is like the big different between Saleen and Steeda.
Saleen has to have EPA/DOT cert as they sell their cars thru dealers which
"buy" the car From Saleen.
While, I think with Steeda, you on paper buy the Mustang first, then have it shipped to Steeda for the mods.
A slight difference but it can make all difference with federal regs.
Hope that makes some sense.

There seems to be a conflict even though the performance mods for the GT-H and the Shelby GT are similar if not identical.
The way I'm looking at it is that Hertz buys a Mustang GT from Ford, then has it dropped shipped to Shelby Automotive for custom work.
Hertz owns it and can add any aftermarket parts they want so long as the
car meets the requirements for the state where it is registered/inspected.
(Just like any of us.)
Federal DOT/EPA is not part of the deal anymore on the GT-H as it is not a new Ford Product for sale to the public.
After a year, it goes to auction as a used car where any Ford dealer can buy them.
Shelby-GT will come straight from Ford/Dealer as a new car, so it has to meet Fed rules.

These are the first cars purchased by hertz from Ford, they usually lease, if the didnt buy we were told they might need EPA, but the bought, so we only had to meet state requirements which we did. The GT's are new cars and will still be owned by ford when we work on them, then they will go to the dealers.
Sorry Bullitt, I didn't get it, I thought it was sarcasm, as I always try to be upfront and tell you what I know. I don't do "spin" . Sometimes I might not know, I will tell you that too. The little guy rollin on the floor also threw me off....

we will start first week december. We are sure we will pass it's the stuff we have to do that runs concurrent that takes the time .

Here is a typical Corvette Museum delivery story:

I already have a deposit on a Shelby GT and would take the Las Vegas delivery option in a heartbeat!

Same here!!
I was lucky enough to have my car delivered to me at work directly from the factory... via the truck transport and train of course. I even got to back it off the hauler MYSELF! (Long story. See the "Delivered" link in my sig)
Seeing it being built and picking it up from the factory would have been AMAZING!!
I remember watching some TV show and they showed the new owner getting in his own car while it was on the assembly line. Tested the horn, lights, etc. I don't remember if he drove it off the line himself, but that would be the ultimate. To be able to TRULY say you're the only person to ever drive your car.

We tried that when the '05's first came out. Dave Turnbull had been working with a Marketing VP at Ford to do this for 101 of us who got on the list early (I was #34). The plan was for all of us to fly to Dearborn, tour the plant on the weekend our cars were going through final build, and get them delivered to the closest dealership there on Tuesday. He had even worked it out with CDC that we could get special deals and have new parts installed on our brand new cars right there. Then we were going to caravan to the MVA show in KC shortly after that. Unfortunately Ford determined it would be a logistical nightmare to get all those cars (all available models and options were being ordered) scheduled for the same weekend, and backed out of it. So Dave decided not to but an '05 and just drive his '65, and the rest of us had to scramble to find something else. They had been promising X-plan, and were just about to hand out PIN's to us all, when that fell through. Luckily I found a dealership that would sell to me under MSRP (at that time practically unheard of) and got it 8 weeks after I placed the order, actually more than a month before it would've been delivered with the Pony Drive plan.
I did get a nice hat, number plate, badge, and some other stuff for my Pony Drive entry fee, although I never attended.
I've toured the Shelby facilities here also, this spring when the Shelby Club was there (as was Dream Car Garage, and I'm actually on the video from that episode, for about 5 seconds
). I need to go again, since I'm in LV. Hey, maybe those of us near could sched a get together, work it out with Amy, and go for a drive up through Valley of Fire or something? Any one interested?
