Lots of customers would get washed out prints that didn't match the screen and calibrations I had put in the photos.

Didn't realize that was your car, was one of my favorites to watch that day. I really miss shooting photos, was something I enjoyed a lot (my camera gear is being all auctioned off to get this motor handled, hopefully one day I can rebuild the once impressive collection that took some awesome pictures).
that was my first nasa day. The night before was my first drag night. I was told to be at fir at 4:30 am so I slept in my car at the casino across the way since it didnt make sense to get a room for 4 hours. A truly epic night.

anywho.. I want somethign epic for the new house/garage. I was thinking a few large(few feet by a few feet) prints and a rasterbator(like thishttp://www.ebay.com/itm/DRAGONBALL-D...item20be7fee69).

gotcha. I'll look around a bit at what I can get on a set of poster prints, then just rasterbate the image or use some other scaling technique.

For those asking how they could help/chip in:

I couldn't track down my friend to get the original campaign edited, so we're looking into closing that one and just using this:

http://igg.me/p/135424?a=759461

Feel free to pass the link around even if you can't help, the more exposure it gets helps in heaps! Thanks everyone, I really mean that.

Saw your block for sale in Ebay....any bites? Selling anything else off of the engine? I'll be donating to this cause.

I have a list in the classifieds section, basically any part off my motor that won't be needed to get the new one going.

Another forum had a member listing a boss longblock, but no word yet back on how complete that is or the cost. I already sold the TB, fuel rails and valve covers and coils. so at this point I still may be going after the whole crate unless its a killer deal.

No real bites on ebay. I called a few places to get the overall machining costs and I think the price I came up with is reasonable (though for the block and crank, I'd package the pricing if someone wanted them together).

Thanks to everyone who has chipped in so far, I feel uncomfortable knowing that many I won't be able to directly repay in some way. Anyways, even if people can't donate, if they can share the link etc, that helps both me and the Arc, and hell, if it ended up on jalopnik....

There's been a few of you guys who have, and I can't thank you enough!

so some tech on what's going on:

Looking at two crate motors from Ford
Per ford racing:

Aluminator:
412+ HP, 400+ TQ (not sure what the + means, but that is 10ft-lbs over stock)
11:1
low friction graphal coated Mahle pistons, Manley H beams, forged crank
2013 based block
Stock Coyote heads that have the Boss 302 Springs
6800 rated rpm redline (?)

Then $1600 more (if I sell my Boss intake):

Boss 302 Crate:
Mahle pistons, ? forged I beams, boss rebalanced crank
11:1
444 HP, 380 TQ
CNC heads, sodium filled valves (better heat dissipation), uprate springs
7500 rated redline
improved oil pan, tensioner reliefs added, different exhaust cams

So I had a chat with them that answered some questions, but didn't get me the detailed tech that I wanted.

On the aluminator:
its meant for N/A, increased strength bottom end, would hold up to use with a boss manifold. No real notes on details, high rpm survivability (it should hold up fine is what I was told), or improvements other than strength over the original coyote. Would be nice to talk to the guys who thought up this variant and what they were after.

The boss:
obvious boss motor use is obvious.

Warranty on both is shipping to Ford Racing for teardown, they're cool about any use as long as tuning or lack of maintenance causes an issue. Its a warranty you really don't want to have to use since it calls for pulling the motor.

They are ready-to-go drop-in's for a 2011, both require tuning. includes exhaust manifolds, couldn't understand if the oil cooler was included on the boss crate.

I think at this point unless I just come up short on money or someone can give me a real compelling reason to look at the aluminator, my car will get the boss crate. I am interested in where that extra torque comes from on the aluminator from a curiosity standpoint.

Go big bud. I would say the boss motor which is overall a stronger motor. Plus don't just let it be a replacement. Make it an upgrade so u r better off then u were before. Either way u go u will be happy but something about the boss redline being higher will just make you smile. I made my donation. I know it's going to a good place.

They also sell a lower compression version of the Alluminator that's designed to take boost all day long. You don't even have to modify the timing cover. The FRPP supercharges just bolt right on. If I'm not mistaken, this is the motor in the new CobraJet. Personally, I think that's the motor I'd run (with boost, of course) if my Coyote died.

It is my belief that difference comes from the cam profiles. Like the difference in performance from the 5.0 in the Mustang and the 5.0 in the F150.
The aluminator doesn't spin as fast and therefore the cams can be designed for more torque. But the Boss gets its extra HP from higher rpm's and the full breathing that occurs there. And maybe that puts some limitations (even with the improved springs) on the torque numbers from the cams.
Would love to hear expert reasoning.

Its an adult, large pyrotect SA2010 forced air helmet. I campaigned it for about a year, met Marco Andretti when magnaflow and eibach used my car for promotional purposes and had him sign it. From there I had a number of other signatures added at Grand Am events and just decided to buy a replacement helmet of the same make to personally use and the signed one became a display piece. I hate the thought of letting it go since it has so much history on it, but I thought if someone really wanted to donate that much, that they should have something valuable to show for it.

Getting the Boss crate is the way to go. With a rebuild you'll probably never feel completely comfortable and you certainly don't want to be spending even more money in the future.

I would advise not tuning the new motor. It doesn't seem like the 5.0 react very well to tuning. It's just is not worth it.
Does the Boss crate get a red key?

I'd bet that could be made to work if he also got a BOSS instrument cluster.

That's a thought. If I could get my hands on a boss ECU and cluster I wonder if that could be done and avoid having to tune the motor. Though I'd miss the shiney JLT cai (though I did learn at least one lesson about tuning)

getting closer. I could probably order the aluminator on Wednesday, however I'm running out of things to sell (there's always my body, I guess).

I wish I knew how to get in touch with someone that worked on making the aluminator product and ask some basic questions (can it be revved to 7500 safely without going **** up, etc).

As it stands, aluminator is $6900, boss 302 $10190 (gap offset slightly by sale of my B302r intake). I know the CNC heads are nice, along with the cam (which is rumored to drop in on the aluminator as the newer heads may be clearanced properly). Mainly the upgraded valves are of interest to me.

Additionally, I've been unable to find any feedback on aluminator or boss 302 crate motors scouring the net. Some stuff about problems with the older 4.6 ones (piston slap type noise, bad pilot bearings), but nothing much on the 5.0s. I'm going to call L&M Monday to see what they have to say.

Just getting ancy now that I'm close to the cost of one of the motors.

Additionally, going in at roughly the same time:
Mishimoto 3 row radiator
either the boss oil-water cooler or a homebrew air-oil AN10 setup
oil temp/pressure gauge if doing the latter
BBK offroad cat deletes (since my cats had some valve inbedded in the media. will mount them back on the factory h pipe and store for my every-2-year smog check).

You should check in with Rehagen Racing. They race the Boss cars and probably have a lot of experience with the Aluminators and B302 crate motors...
