Does anyone think Ford will step it up a bit??
True... Some people just love Mustangs... Like ME!!
I don't care WHAT the Challenger, Camaro, 350 or 370z or any other Stang competitors bring to the table. I LIKE MUSTANGS. Who knows? Some Ford insider could be reading this when I say: "Step it up in the brakes" That's all..

Otherwise the car is just not going to compare 'on paper' vs. the Challenger and the Camaro.
Both those cars bring a lot of features to the table that the Mustang lacks, and the cost of those extra features is not much more than a premium GT.

Awesome!

In a few months we will see what Ford has planned for the 2010 model. All this competition is good for the consumer- let the automakers fight it out for our money. The only loser will be the person who is so brand loyal that he refuses to switch automakers even if the car/model is badly outgunned by the competition.

I have survived the 70 oil crisis and the gumby fox chassis ... I'm happy to have what we have in the S197 ... it's not perfect, but a far cry from the 1974 Mustang II with the 2.3L Pinto engine.
I also get what you guys are saying ... keep in mind if the 2010 Mustang cannot compete with Camaro and Challenger, Ford will be the 1st to know by looking at sales figures.
I might be thinking a little backward here, but I bought a 2008 because I didn't want the price increase that is bound to follow the 2010. When all was said and done, I bought my $31385 MSRP'd GT for around $25782 and I passed on an additional $1000 FMC rebate. Its the best value in class that I can see. I would be hard pressed to find an additional $6500 in features for the 2010 that mine doesn't have, but thats just me. I absolutely love my GT.

I'm with you all the way man. And from what I've heard from some insiders, the new mustang should be able to give GM and Dodge all the competition they want and then some.
I don't see why everybody thinks the new camaro and challenger are SO much better than the current stang anyway. The only categories they are better in is horsepower (although the GT500 and GT500KR have them beat) and irs.
I think everyone is just a little nervous cuz the challenger and camaro are all shiny and new so to speak, and our car is approaching 4yrs+ old. I just can't wait till all the details are revealed on the 2010.
I suspect the 2010 Mustang will be more competitive with the Camaro. But rest assured the V8 Camaro will OWN the '05 to '09 Mustang GT on the street or the track, stock vs. stock.
And that's just how it is.
Some people are panicking already when the brand spanking new camaro and challenger are only marginally better than our old '05s.
in a straight line stock it will be like LS2 GTO vs S197 4.6 the camaro has the LS3 and the GTO weighs less so my guess is that they are about the same in a straight line maybe the camaro is a tenth faster than the GTO

But the point is if you keep saying oh its just a little here and a little there, it ends up a lot more.
Its the same mentallity that causes so much americans in debt, oh little payment here little there till its so many monthly payments you use your entire paycheck to pay bills.
mustang is already bloated expense wise on other stuff, so if you are going to add irs, take out some other stuff to equal it out. Its a dangerous path looking at little things by themselves because it never seems large by itself, but you add all those little things together and you are in trouble.

There seems to be a small but vocal minority here that want the Mustang to become an M3, and they act like everyone out there can afford a new M3. They want Ford to become BMW. But Ford is not and never will be BMW. They are a maker of cars for the common man, and the Mustang is the common man's sporty car.
Don't kid yourself... it'll be more than a few tenths.
Anything can happen at the track but the new LS3 even with the weight, is a LOW 13/high 12
More than half a second faster stock vs stock LS3 vs 4.6

GTO is low 13s is it not, just slightly better than the LS1
This Camaro will put more than a few tenths on it.
It's not just the weight, but tires how it lays down the power.
Stock GTOs were undertired.

The ls3 is an awesome engine and I hope and pray that somebody at Ford is really listening this time.
They cant get the 5.0 out quick enough to suit me in a DI version of course but PFI would be a major step up. Lets pray also Ford does not make the same mistake with weight that GM has. The guy in charge of that program has caught some major flack about how heavy the car turned out to be and it was from camaro enthusiasts. I hope Ford does not repeat that mistake.
How do you even know the SS is competing with a Mustang GT? As far as I know GM keeps saying the Camaro is more "upscale" than the mustang. That sounds like corporate talk for "it's gonna be a lot more expensive than the mustang." So wait till you hear the official price before you start comparing the two.
First of all the interior is opinion based too, as i think it looks like a typically hideous GM interior. And it also has the Mustang GT beat in weight too. Obviously the new SS will be faster than the old GT, but Ford doesn't have to improve much to beat it.

I agree the dash is about as fugly as it gets with GM ... as far as the rest ... well, I looked over the specs and until pricing comes out, who's to say. The SS looks like a beast, but there is no way it can compete with the GT500 in shear power. And if Chevrolet prices it as high as $50k from what I've read, I cannot imagine sales will be too high.
One more thing the Mustang has going for it as I see it. Insurance rates are favorable with the lower HP ratings ... plus admit it, the V6 option can be used year round, even here in MN.
Perhaps its time Ford draws from our neighbors to the West ... Austrailia ... the Falcon uses the NA 5.4 DOHC engine there with appox 390 HP. They call the engine there ... BOSS 290
Not only that, but they use a 4.0L DOHC DI I6 that makes 265 HP in mild form and 360 HP turbocharged ... I ask this ... why are we getting the old technology in the states?
Oh and by the way, Motor Trend or was it Car and Driver had the estimate hp on the Camaro at 420 for the 6spd and 395 for the auto. Most of the F-bodys on the dealer lots were autos back in the day and I (me personally) rarely see them (6 speeds) on the street when I went to glance in the car to see if it was a 6 speed. With the possibility of mostly autos out there once again, it could be more of an advantage for us Stang boys. And Ladies.
I agree with you guys (shwaco1967 and saleen367)
. As my screen name implies, it's the stang forever with me. Ford hasn't disappointed me yet when it comes to the mustang, and I don't expect them to start now that they actually have other cars to compete with.
